What are doctors looking at during an Ocular Health Screen? 👁️
Answer: Many things!
Your vet is checking that your pets eyes respond correctly to light and motion. They will look at the front of they for any obvious abnormalities but also look at the back of the eye with a special lens or scope. This allows vets to see the retina and optic nerve clearly!
When you pet comes in for any ocular discomfort a traditional eye exam is performed and depending on what your veterinarian sees, they can pinpoint more specific causes for discomfort. Eye irritation in our dogs, like redness, discharge, and frequent blinking, could be due to an underlying eye issue or injury. 🐕

The Humane Society of West Michigan is turning 140 years old and they're ready to celebrate! They will be hosting an exciting day of family fun with activities, games, music, and, of course, cake and ice cream! After all, it is a birthday party! Happy Hairball Awareness Day! Did you know that hairballs can be a sign of a more serious issue? Hairballs can be a common issue for cats, but they can also be a sign of a more serious underlying health problem. When cats groom themselves, they ingest loose fur which can accumulate in their stomach and form a hairball. However, if a cat is producing an excessive amount of hairballs or is experiencing difficulty in passing them, it could indicate a digestive issue or even a gastrointestinal blockage. In some cases, hairballs can also be a symptom of an underlying medical condition such as hyperthyroidism or inflammatory bowel disease. Therefore, it's important to keep an eye on your cat's hairball production and make an appointment if you have any concerns.
