❄❄ Attn Winter weather pet safety tips. ❄❄

With the reports of bad weather headed our way admins of the lost and found pet groups would like to remind pet owners about the extra importance on keeping your pets safe so they do not become displaced or injured.

⭕ Keep identification on them at all times. Collars with your name and number written on them,
Identification tags such as dog license, rabies tag and tags that are ingraved with your name and number help with faster reunification. Collars can come off when a pet is displaced so please consider microchipping your pet. Be sure to keep your information updated on the microchips.

⭕ If your pet is already microchipped please make sure the chip is registered and/or all the information on the chip is current. If you do not have the microchip number any vet can scan for free and give you the number.

⭕ Keep your pets safe and warm this includes while taking them outside. Use a leash, harness, tie out anything that can prevent them from bolting and getting lost. If they bolt out your front door when you open it put a baby gate up to prevent them from doing this. Make sure gates to fences are closed and there are no broken areas in the fence.

⭕ If your pet does get lost please post on all your local county lost and found pet groups. There is a group for every county and also groups for the entire state of Michigan. A couple of largely viewed and public groups is For The Love of Louie and Pawboost. Next Door app is also great as it sends out notifications to all your neighbors that use the app within a certain distance in your area.

⭕ If you have outdoor pets please consider bring them in somewhere warm and out of the elements. Whether it's in an insulated garage, spare bedroom, basement etc.

⭕ If you are not able to bring them in please make sure they have food and water. Check it often incase it freezes. A good solid adequate shelter, and dry bedding (use straw, not blankets as they retain water).

🐾🐾 Your pets NEED you to keep them safe so keep yourselves safe also. 🐾🐾

Also Feel free to share this for me. Thanks. 🙂

PSA... Heat stress and stroke!! Our dogs are NOT acclimated to the recent wonderful warm. I have had 3 suspected and 1 confirmed heat stroke pups already this week. Remember they are not able to put on shorts and a tee. Great article from the AKC below.

🐕🐾🐾🐕 I am one person doing all I can. I know many of you have been let down by the inability to get timely grooming services.😿 This is a nation wide problem across most industries. It breaks my heart. I miss many of you.

This real story, in real time, is a shocking eye opener even for me.💔😢
Below is text I lifted from a local FB group. This among so many other things happening in our country and world... is just terrifying! Coppied post below.

UPDATE 1:50pm: We are driving to Greater Lansing Vet Clinic. They can stitch him up TODAY. This has been insane.
***********
HELP! Our dog was running around in our woods and around our goat fencing and showed up with a 4-5” laceration in his side at 11:45am. When we called our vet’s number we were directed to Animal Emergency Clinic in GR (we are in Spring Lake). I called and the secretary told us to get him right in. We loaded up all our kids & the dog and came to GR. They called us when we were 9 mins out and said that a Dr looked at the registration (& pics) and decided he was not a critical patient so they could give him pain meds and an antibiotic and send us home and IF they have openings today we could bring him back in for stitches. IF 😳. She told me that there is a chance they would not be able to get to him at all today because of other patients that were more critical then him. Since then we have arrived and sent him in for pain meds and an antibiotic. We have called Blue Pearl (at capacity) & Family Friends Vet Hospital (at capacity). This is insane. Does anyone know of a local vet that can help our pup today?? His wound is flapped and bleeding. While I understand that there are other animals with life threatening ailments I can’t imagine just bringing him home and letting this wound be open until (someone) has openings. 😔 What are some other options???
