Gold Hill Canine

Gold Hill Canine Life's too short not to have fun doing what you love. We have many different training programs for all breeds and ages, from puppy to adult.

Our training philosophy is very simple, have fun doing what we love, while making certain you have a dog you can love life with. We created the movement of to embody our lifestyle goal for you; to have a dog that you can take everywhere you want. We believe in the ability for dogs to have dramatic changes in their often very poor behavior. Our True Behavior Rehabilitation™ approach

incorporates our ability to teach people a healthier way to live with their dogs, while respecting dogs as individuals and teaching the dog the rules and structure necessary to be successful members of your home. We took a good hard look at the training industry and created our programs based on the results we work so hard to achieve with your dog, while addressing what we feel are shortcomings in the classic obedience models of pet trainers and big box stores. The other large part of our business is our Working Dog program. We raise, train and often have for sale a range of working dogs. Several of our most recent projects are working for Law Enforcement agencies, in addition to others that are Family Protection Dogs. A result of our experience in raising and training working dogs as well as rehabilitating the truly behaviorally challenged, we have created our Puppy Engage™ program. It incorporates all of the information you need to know to successfully raise your puppy, in the manner that best suits YOUR dog. We are pleased to offer the Ramsey Nosework F3 method of scent detection for the rapidly growing Nosework community. We love what we do and want to share that passion for dogs with you.

Except we just need that off switch when life doesn’t call for a court jester.

Life.
Is it always go time?
Is it always crazy?
Is it always nonsense?
Is it always stimulating?
The answer should be no, for both you and your dog. If you don’t have balance, it catches up to you and all aspects suffer.

Time to get back to roots.
We created the hashtag years ago to go along with our training philosophy that bears the same name.
We’ve never strayed away from that, but we have taken a bit of a hiatus from social media.
Well, we’re gonna be walking back into that space with some bigger efforts over the coming months.
But for now, let’s reminisce on this….

I’m gonna need everyone to be calm and remember we are professional dog trainers. Maybe I’m trying to remind myself of that fact when something this cute comes strutting in.
What do you think some of the important life lessons would be for a puppy at this stage??

Great info from our friend!!

Is your dog afraid of fireworks?
Have you recently adopted a dog whom you’re unsure of how they will do during fireworks?

Now is the time to prepare, do not wait until the week before, or worse, not prepare at all and have the heartbreak of a lost dog

Here are some tips to prepare-

Talk to your vet about a prescription that will make the whole experience a lot less stressful

Make sure you have a well-fitted, bright reflective collar with updated tags, preferably one with the plate on the collar so the tags can it fall off. You can find these on gundogsupply.com

Make sure your microchip is up to date

Do not allow your dog unsupervised in a yard or kennel without an escape proof top and dig proof bottom. I do not recommend leaving any dog with severe noise sensitivity outside even in an escape proof kennel because they can seriously injured themselves in a panic.

You can buy inexpensive rope at Home Depot and make a long line so your dog can have freedom to go to the bathroom without the worry of them panicking and jumping a fence or bolting

Invest in a sturdy plastic crate and train your dog to relax in it. You can put this crate in a bathroom or closet to dampen the noise. Wire crates can be very, very dangerous to a panicked dog.

My goal is for no one to lose their dogs this season so prepare and please share this post, it could save a pup life!

Why do you do it?
If you can’t answer that, you’ll feel like you’re running up a mountain of sand.
So, when I lose sight of the why, I remember these two specifically. They are my why.
Thank you to the lovely .imagery for completely surprising me with this gift, that is more meaningful than anything I could’ve hoped for.

I’m going to potentially save you thousands of dollars and lots of headaches with your puppy.
I may go out of business if this message is spread too much, so maybe don’t share it or anything.

This day now holds double meaning, as it marks the passing of one of the finest dogs of any breed I’ve had the pleasure of seeing work.
I have never seen a dog with his hunt ethic, intensity, purpose of heart and clarity when needed.
From the titles he earned in Holland with his amazing owner Sandra, to his achievements here in the Law Enforcement world, to the stellar offspring he has produced, he is everything a working dog should be, in every way I can think of.
He defined my expectations of the malinois breed and set a standard that is damn near impossible to recreate in my mind.
My heart is with you Sandra as you try to picture life without your constant companion in it.
Rest easy Ferdi, you have earned it buddy.

This day will always be a sober reminder of life worth living.
22 years ago, I was made painfully aware for the first time of what the profession I had entered can cost.
Jeff was one of the main reasons I had gotten into Law Enforcement and his insane dog Rondo was what made me want to be around dogs, constantly.
Jeff was a cop in every sense of the word and he was taken far too soon.
However, his death would bring an amazing person into my life many years later as a friend.
I can’t help but think often what life would’ve been like had he stuck around, but we have no say in the universes plans, so we just learn, grieve, grow and keep moving forward.
Miss you 371

Heartbreaking.
In a dangerous career, there are specialties that are inherently more dangerous. The men and women that operate these machines know the dance well and fly with the knowledge that every step in that dance is purposeful and daring. None of them, myself included, would ever trade a moment of that dance for the safety provided by being anchored to the ground.
But when the misstep occurs, there is no do over in this dance. There are no rehearsals, every performance is live in front of the crowd. We all know it. And yet they still dance.
To my brothers and sister still dancing, be safe. Those words are just what we say when we know the reality is anything but.
To my brothers at HBPD Air Support, I’m proud to know you and my heart is with you.

Mind numbingly boring dog training. All day, every day.
Cause high speed gets guys like Keenu (not to be confused with Keanu, who is a famous actor type known for monotone delivery of lines during action sequences ) into ongoing reactivity issues.
The kind that prevent this type of relaxation therapy.

JC Dodd was what we call a professional, in a professional business. I was also honored to call him a friend.
He was lost before I forced him to teach me blacksmithing, but the memories we made and the lessons he taught us all last.
He brought a measure of safety and work ethic responsibility to our unit at a time we desperately needed it.
His legacy lives on and he is missed.

Daughter.
You changed my world forever 20 years ago and have been my constant light since. I have learned fatherhood with you, on a path with many twists and turns. We have been a team since that first night home and I wouldn’t trade it for anything, you are my favorite person.
Watching you grow, mature, develop your own amazing personality has been my greatest joy. You are truly unique, you always have been and it is what draws people to you constantly. You are developing your own tribe in life and it’s exciting to see. Some will be here for life, but many more will come and go. You are the constant through it all.
You continue to amaze me with your strength and resiliency, even if you don’t always see it. You are a strong woman and the world is ready for you to be a force in it.
I love you little one.

To all my friends in the dog training community, our wonderful friend Sandra needs our help (she didn’t ask and she won’t).
Her dog Benny suffered a pretty serious injury and the costs for diagnostics and rehab are pretty substantial.
I started a GoFundMe to help ease that burden for her. Every little bit helps, so let’s show her how much we care and support her!!
Here is the link.

99 years, a few months and a hand full of days. ⁣
What would you be able to look back on over that lifespan? Would you say it was a good life, well lived?⁣
My grandfather certainly did, when I saw him the last time. We sat for awhile and I knew he knew it was a matter of days before he departed us. There was look in his eyes, of deep contentment and satisfaction, but also of the end. His first words to me when I walked in were, “I miss my wife.” That’s all I needed to know, you can go and be at peace. ⁣
To say William “Bill” Smentek was a kind man would probably be pushing the boundaries of that word at times, but I knew him to be fair. You knew where he stood. Always. And I love him for that. ⁣
I’m certain he taught me to swim or at the very least instilled my comfort for the water. He taught me a lot about honor of service, hard work, being direct. His military service started in the Army Air Corps and he was there at the start of the Air Force. After a full career, he went on for almost two more decades serving with the FAA as a check airman. He held an unrestricted category license and stopped logging time at about 10,000 hours. He flew planes in a day and age where flying was very much a physical art. He retired as a Major and one of his greatest joys, which he shared with me just days ago, was that my brother had just recently been promoted and now outranked him. He was honored to finally have to salute another Smentek. ⁣
There are stories that don’t sound true that I could tell, but my favorite memories are reflecting on lighting fire crackers and throwing them off the balcony at their lake house. For hours. How we have all of our fingers is beyond me. ⁣
I watched him hold my daughter Dylan, with a softness most that knew him were surprised he had. I wished he would’ve met Zoe, but life has plans that don’t include my needs at times.
I will miss you, but I’ll remember you fondly.
I love you Grandpa.

I don’t have a quarter of this guys talent. I don’t have half of his work ethic. I don’t have three quarters of his rugged good looks.
But I have his friendship, and it is worth everything.
Thank you to my brother for giving me some expert opinions and helping me make some tough decisions, but it’s why we made the trip.
In dog training and raising for law enforcement, it’s a game that sees more losses than wins sometimes. But having professionals to turn to and discuss thoughts with makes it a game worth playing.
Until the next time my friend.
