Fyre and I tested yesterday at the Heartland chapter. 130 no prize.

It was 100 degrees and she decided she was not going in the water. Every test is different. Every dog is different. She needs more training. No excuses.

So the test was held near Brainard, NE. I was first in the field and she does well on the chukar steady to flush. We walk around the backside of the course and she goes on point. But not a solid point. I go to kick it up, and I am like “Judges, this isn’t a chukar.” Come to find out she was pointing a nesting woodcock. That was *REALLY* cool.

Fyre and I are scheduled to run UPT at the Heartland Navhda, LC in Brainard, NE in August.

Today we worked on duck search with the MOKAN Chapter, and she did better. A passing score in my opinion.

We have three weeks to get everything right with her, and I know she can do it.

I went through phase 1 of The Method Dog Training last year, so while yesterday was a technically a refresher I did learn a lot about myself and how to read dogs

Today will be all new advanced training focusing on steadiness and the retrieve.

Cyclone NAVHDA Test at Story City, IA.

Ran Fyre today in UPT. She receievd a 140 no prize. She received a 1 in duck search and needed a 2 or higher to pass.

She did better in steadiness, and I am glad to see her improve.

Fyre stole the show. Everyone loved her.

Fyre will be running NAVHDA UPT next weekend at the Cyclone Chapter.

She did really good on her last attempt scoring 120 no prize.

I have been working with her on steadiness, so fingers crossed.

Majik passed the Utility Preparatory Test with a 128 Prize III. My first NAVHDA intermediate test passing score.

Fyre did not pass and I forgot to write down her final score BUT…she and her handler Martin did extremely well considering that was Martin’s first NAVHDA event ever. Had she not recieved a zero for steadiness she would’ve prized. So close. Very proud of them both.

Syd got bumped to tomorrow, and honestly I do not see her passing as she is blinking ducks. But she may surprise me.

Syd, Fyre, and Majik are scheduled to run Utility Preparatory Test this coming Saturday, the 11th of May.

We are still waiting on Syd to come into season.

Today was the UKC event held at the Pony Express Lake.

Bo, Syd, Fyre, and Majik were confirmed to breed standards.

Syd, Fyre, and Majik entered GUN, TAN, and WTR tests. Fyre and Majik passed TAN and WTR, but Syd was the only one that passed all three.

It was a long day and I am whipped. We are now going to focus on the NAVHDA Utility Prep.

Fyre, Majik, and Syd are signed up for a United Kennel Club (UKC) field trial event the 16th of March. They are running Gun Dog with Tan equivalent and Water. They will also be judged on breed conformation that weekend.

These three are also signed up for NAVHDA Utility Prep test 11 / 12 May.

Majik and Syd after the hunt. Notice no burrs? Not because I combed them out - it’s because their coats just don’t pick up trash.

Initially I regretted taking them both out as plenty of the grab-ass ensued. However, after we got into the first bunch of birds they realized what was up and got focused on their noses instead of each other.

We got into one covey of quail and a handful of pheasants. The dogs had nice solid points but no shots were fired. Tough to sneak up on January birds even with snow on the ground.
