Special Needs Rescue Services

Special Needs Rescue Services Special Needs Rescue Services, Inc. is a 501c3 foundation and sanctuary helping special needs dogs and horses. All small animals are inside/outside pets.

We house our Rescues at Fairview Farm, a 20-acre farm and residence in Grantville, GA. All the small animals have an acre of fenced-in yard where they can safely play, exercise, and interact. We maintain four-chain link holding kennels for new arrivals, but these are generally integrated into the existing animal group within 24-48 hours. No animals are brought to the farm without first having been

thoroughly examined by our veterinarians and properly vaccinated and/or treated. Animals experiencing emotional problems, including fear biting and anxiety, are slowly and gradually introduced to the group to maintain safety at all times. Special outside training is also available and used when necessary to help make integration at the farm successful. They are brought in each night and in bad weather, and at other times, freely move about within and without the house. The horses and donkeys are maintained on the rest of the property, which is fenced and crossfenced. Horses are housed in 12 x 14 or 14 x 14 stalls at night and in bad weather. Otherwise, they are turned out to roam the pastures and circulate freely. Donkeys, because of their need to roam, are allowed free access to pastures at all times. A protective run-in shed is provided for them in bad weather. Our pasture and roadside fencing has been redone - using recycled timber from old telephone poles for the 5' high four board roadside and driveway fencing. It is creosote- treated to prevent chewing, is strong and much more economical than standard wood fencing. For the cross fencing between pastures, have been replaced with safety wire and top boards, again made from recycled telephone poles. including coyotes, out. All of this fencing should last for decades once it is installed. The four kennels are roofed, made from 6-foot high chain link set into concrete. They are easily cleaned and maintained with fresh water in double buckets. Dog houses have fresh, soft blankets in each unit. Dogs are fed, both in house and kennel, once daily on a veterinary- approved, high-quality diet of kibble and wet food. Much of our small animal food is donated by manufacturers and distributors and is high quality. Where we lack donations, such as with our wet and prescription food supplies, we must purchase them locally from vets, feed stores, and pet centers. We are a no-kill organization. We never euthanize pets except in extreme circumstances where the animal is experiencing
untreatable pain or is in the final stages of a life-threatening illness. It is our policy to NEVER amputate limbs just because it is the easy solution. We invest in life-saving and life- affirming surgeries because we believe that every animal deserves to live a happy, healthy life.

Need 2-3 people to help with morning stall cleaning at my barns in Grantville. The job should take 2-3 hours per day and I will pay competative wages. I need adults with their own transportation and some experience working around horses. I would prefer people who can work every day. I am willing to provide free stall (full board) for one barefoot horse per person as part of the package. 770-712-2682

Science confirms your Pooch is making “Puppy Dog Eyes” just for you!

Over the past few years, researchers have used technology known as FACS (the Facial Action Coding System) cataloguing facial expressions in animals.

According to a new and improved study, pet dogs communicate with specific facial expressions when their owners are looking at them, and not just because they’re excited about the possibility of food. Researchers found that dogs move their faces in direct response to the human gaze.
