See Salem's Community Cats for adoption!

Emmie, kitty extraordinaire! Her foster mom says she even gives kisses! Pretty remarkable considering all she's been through.

Emmie is a little over a year old now and in perfect health after her rough start as a sickly kitten. Fortunately, her foster mom, Amy, persisted in getting to the root of the cause: a great big polyp blocking poor little Emmie's airway!

After finally getting healthy, Emmie was adopted. But that didn't work out, so Emmie was returned to live with her foster family.

Emmie is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, FIV/FeLV negative, and has an amazing attitude! She's full of love and would be happy in a home with another kitty or a small dog for company. She loves people and would love to have a forever family to call her own.

Good Evening and Happy Sunday Everyone!

As we get more families applying for assistance, we wanted to take a quick moment and explain how No Empty Bowls operates. We have 2 types of pet food assistance.

Short term, which is intended for people who are facing immediate short duration hardships, such as loss of employment, major unexpected bills, temporary medical issues, etc. Short term assistance lasts for 2 months, to help buy some time to recover from your hardship.

We also offer Long Term Assistance, which is intended as a supplement to help people who are receiving some form of government or state aid, such as Medicare, Disability, SNAP, WIC, SSI or VA Disability. Long Term assistance lasts for 1 year. Because we operate on donations to allow us to offer these programs, we must make the food we have go as far as we can. We evaluate requests for assistance based on the criteria above, and we try to help as many people as our supplies allow.

If you need assistance, please visit our website at www.noemptybowls.org and fill out an application so we can get the process started.

Donations of cat and dog food as well as cat litter are always appreciated. We also accept monetary donations to help with operating costs at the pantry.

As a 501(c)3, your donations may be tax deductible, and we can provide donation receipts if you need them. Please contact us if you have any further questions, or if you know someone in need of assistance.”

This effort is so important. I’d love it if every one of our GKR followers would follow us and our progress on No Empty Bowls as well.

The wonderful people at Curtis Lumber's PetAPalooza have added a page for us on their website! How awesome is that? We are blessed to have their full support and fortunate to be partnering with them for the food and supplies drive at this years events.

It is with great regret and sadness that this post goes up. Tippy, the last kitten from Gotham’s first litter, passed away today. She was a little over 4 years old. The vet suspects that it was FIP.

Tippy’s litter came to us after a loving human rescued them, following a sudden departure of their momma cat after a accident. She was always a quirky kitten, who very much preferred to be in close proximity to a human. She never clicked with any specific adopter, and after a while, Tippy just decided to call Gotham’s her home.

The last few days, she was just not herself, and after a vet exam today, we got the tragic news, and after some painful discussions with our vet, we made the decision that it was better for Tippy to pass peacefully. She was not alone when she crossed over the Rainbow bridge, and she knew she was loved.

Hug your furbabies, and keep them a little closer tonight.

Weeble Update, Gotham Nation!

As kitten season is opening and soon upon us, we as an organization have had to reassess our ability to continue through this year's season. The unfortunate answer to this question is no, we cannot. We are no longer financially able to move forward as a kitten rescue in the capacity we have been. The harsh reality is that, with the financial shortfall added to the upcoming change in New York’s state laws regarding shelters and rescues, the writing is on the wall for our tiny rescue.

So, here it is. We at Gotham’s Kitten Rescue are saddened to announce we are closed for intakes permanently.

Last year we experienced financial hurdles we couldn’t overcome. We expect the same this year. Closing our doors to intakes is the only responsible thing to do.

That being said, we wish to thank everyone who has been here following us, supporting us, and donating to us through the last four seasons of saving these special tiny kittens. Our Guardians stepped up monthly to give our funds a bit of a boost. Your monthly aid was invaluable. We weren't able to save them all but we saved far more than we lost! That made everything worth it for us. Watching these tiny babies who struggled to survive get to go home to forever homes has been a highlight of our lives. We have cried happy tears and felt a joy that is indescribable. You have been a wonderful support system through it all.

We would also like to once again acknowledge, Benson’s Giving. Their last minute “Hail Mary” pass gave us the ability for one last push toward the goal line. Without their help we would have not had the funds to spay and neuter the remaining cats in our care. This week marks the final spays of adoptable cats. We have three remaining special needs kitties that need to be assessed before going for spays, but then that is it. We will have accomplished a monumental task that seemed impossible two months ago. We wholeheartedly thank Benson’s for giving us their support to do this!

Gotham’s will remain an active 501(c)3 as we have some special needs kitties who will remain with us as sanctuary instead of rescue. Once all of the adoptable cats/kittens have found their forever homes, we will no longer be actively rescuing or participating in rescue from here on out.

So, what now?

We pivot.

We have a new 501(c)3. It is called No Empty Bowls. We are going to bring pet food pantries to rural upstate NY, starting with our own community.

Our mission-

We want to help people keep their pets in their homes, instead of surrendering them to rescues or shelters, when they fall on hard times. We will attack the problem of shelter/rescue overpopulation from a different angle. It’s not as eye catching as saving kittens, but it is a desperate need in rural communities. We plan to help people by providing food, litter, flea/tick, etc for their pets. We are also considering Gotham’s holding microchipping clinics once a month at our distribution location (once we have established just where that will be).

We invite you ALL to come join us in our newest endeavor. Hop on the NEB train and let's ride it together to keep families whole!!

No Empty Bowls: Making friends. Filling bowls. Keeping families in our community whole.
