I wish we could put into words how proud we are of these showman this past week at the hartford fair.

Our son received the following placements:

1st place class winner with his wether

4th place in his class with his larger wether

Doe placements:

2nd Place - junior kid

2nd place 2 years and under 3

2nd place junior yearling

Lee’s farm boer goats also had the following placements:

Jacob’s Stretton received 2nd place class wether

Briar Mays placed 5th in his wether class

Bethany Glancy placed 5th in her wether class

Grace Stokes placed 2nd in senior yearling

Grace Stokes placed 3rd in junior yearling

Lee Farms Boer Goats had a good year and we are excited with these placements, looking forward to next year!

This is a chicken o***y. In theory, each one of the round dots (ova) could have developed into a yolk and eventually an egg. But this came from an old hen who wasn’t laying anymore. It’s fascinating to see how many ova she had left. She stopped laying because her body was old, not because she ran out of potential eggs.

Chickens develop with two ovaries, but when the female chick hatches, the right o***y stops developing while the left one continues to mature. The o***y contains thousands of tiny ova. They take their turn growing into a yolk. Then one breaks off to enter the oviduct where the albumen (egg white), s***m (if present), chalazae (white stringy stuff that holds the yolk in the middle of the egg), shell membranes, and shell are added. The entire process takes 24-26 hours.

In case you didn’t know, you don’t need a rooster to get eggs, eggs won’t turn into a chick if you don’t have a rooster, and fertilized eggs won’t develop unless incubated for 21 days at 100F with high humidity.

And now you can tell your friends that you only eat chicken eggs from left ovaries!

Tis the season. We are officially in the heart of kiddding season… I think that we had one of the hardest and longest births ever on the farm, so far. It was an exhausting 12 hours that resulted in a bottle baby… we are naming her Miracle. After the very hard and long labor we were thankful she was still alive….hence her name.

As Kidding season begins to kick off we would like to announce the excitement that kicks off this coming year. 2021 brought a lot of exciting changes.

At the beginning of 2021 Lee Farms Boer Goats and Burdett Show Goats partnered together on a Wether Genetic Boer buck, Who is a Lead Foot Son from (No Step Ranch) raised by Burdette Show Goats. Since then the partnership has grown into purchasing weather genetic show does.

Lee Farms Boer Goats and Burdett Show Goats are excited to announce an open house coming mid to late January.

If you are looking to be competitive in the show ring for the 2022 show season you will not want to miss it, we will have wethers, wether dams and possibly a few buck prospects. The Sires of this years kids include:

Who is ready for kidding season? Our bucks are finishing up some late breedings and we are ready to see these kids hit the ground. We are also finishing up all of our barn projects before the cold weather hits for good.
