When opossums are born, they have no fur and their eyes are closed. They enter mom’s pouch and stay there for approximately eighty days.

This is because opossums are marsupials and live in a mom’s pouch like a kangaroo! 🦘

But what happens if mom passes away?

🐾 Orphan babies will remain feeding on mom after her death and will become sick if not rescued quickly.

🐾Often when moms are killed by a domestic dog or hit by a car, all or most of the orphans may survive and need help!

What can I do?

🐾Remove orphan opossums from mom's ni***es and bring them to a rehabilitator.

🐾If you don’t feel comfortable searching/touching mom, bring her and her babies to a rehabilitator.

🐾Now that you know this information, place some gloves and a box in your car and watch the roads for dead or wounded opossums.

You are now officially a member of the Opossum Pouch Patrol! 📛
