The third and final day of our "Whistle Recall" class is always so rewarding. On the first day this dog wouldn't even flick a ear when the whistle was blown and look at her now! Are the dogs completely trained in 3 days?...no, but I'd say this is a pretty good start.

We love getting the dogs out around the ranch for some distracted work. "Stay" while a horse is moving around it's paddock, recall and walking politely on a loose leash.
This class is to teach your dog to relax in a group setting. This is not a play group. Our next social gathering is Sunday May 19th.

Whistle Recall: May 9th, 10th and 11th at 5:30 pm
Clients often ask, " What are you teaching your new puppy?". Right from the start, he is learning to "wait" at thresholds, crate door, front door, gates, etc.walking on a loose leash, he naturally offers a sit in many situations, so I work on duration and distance, an "off switch" relax in his room, downtime, and the rules of the house. Recall and follow me. And. LOTS of play and dog time! As he gets older, I add more "maneuvers and obedience".
Enjoy your puppy, know that they are going to do puppy things, bite, tear things up, potty in the house, all of it! Teach and show them what you want. Don't punish them for your mistakes. Set them up for success and have fun! If you're struggling with your puppy, we would be happy to help you.
Some good information regarding snake bites.
Rattlesnakes are everywhere in our county and emergency vet clinics are far and few. Be careful and keep your dog on a leash when out walking or hiking. Be prepared, know what vets are open on the weekend and after hours. Have these numbers on your phone!

Let's not only get the dogs out of the shelter, let's keep them from returning to the shelter! A well trained, confident dog is a pleasure to have in your home.

Training at Top Dog happens rain or shine. These dogs appreciated that their owners brought them out to train on a stormy day.

This beautiful girl came to us very reactive. She was pulling, lunging and barking at the sight of other dogs. Her dedicated owners have done a great job of building her confidence and teaching her that she can be around other dogs and remain calm, (there are 4 other dogs not shown in the photos).
This is what our Level 1 "Building a Foundation" course is about! They are now ready to work in our Level 2 course.

Our final group classes of 2023 are winding down as we look forward to 2024 operating as Top Dog Canine Classroom!
These wonderful pups and their owners did a great job completing the Level 1 course.
They gained confidence, learned impulse control, focus and engagement as well as the basic commands.
Sometimes well laid plans don't go as expected, for this reason, Top Dog will be going back to its original format. Unfortunately FB will not allow a name change for 40 more days so Take The Lead will be in place for that time period.
We are still offering the same services with the same great people! Sorry for the inconvenience and the glitch in name changes.
