Vide At first only a dream it is now a reality.

Cowboy Dressage® has long been a labor of love for Eitan and I. It started with Eitan’s work and performances with home bred Holiday Compadre in the early 1990’s. It is because of this great horse, his talent and his heart that Cowboy Dressage® first came to public recognition and applause. Due to demand Eitan and Compadre soon became educators as well as performers. From Eitan’s years of contact

with the general horse public the idea of Cowboy Dressage® as a competition came to being. In Eitan’s efforts to continue on with his own personal dream and to continue on the legacy that he and Holiday Compadre founded he has brought forth his personal dressage home for the western horse. It is Eitan’s vision that this be a western discipline that is enhanced by dressage, not ruled by it. The tests are very western. Like the early west the rules are simple and the freedom abundant. It is based on release, not contact. Soft Feel, founded by great horseman of the past is Cowboy Dressage®’s core. It is the goal of Cowboy Dressage® to promote and teach that in a competition atmosphere, bringing it to light to a public that is in great need of it. The competition part is new and will need time to grow and develop. It is created for those of you who longed for a place to hang your hat and live and ride the western traditions. It is our hope that each of you will embrace this new division. It is offers a place for the “partnership” to be rewarded more than the “maneuver” and the well being of the horse and rider are held in the highest regard. If you ride the trials, the range, the rodeo or the dressage court you have a place to explore and grow with Cowboy Dressage™.

My bear Saddle

"Don't ever sell your saddle
Never owe another man
Watch where you spit on a windy day
Don't use words you don't understand
Find the Lord before you need him
And never lose your pride
Don't ever sell your saddle
'Cause life's a long, long ride".

The Horse's Head and Neck in Relation to Balance
The horse's weight is distributed over its haunches and forehand. Because of the heavy head and neck, the horse carries a greater amount of weight on its forehand. When in motion, the horse uses its head and neck to influence its balance.
Humane use their arms for balance!
Horse and Human mechanically are walking the same way. One foot is carrying weight and pushing, while the other one is advancing.

Cowboy Dressage Education
Do you know the different between
FREE JOG and EXTENDED TROT?

The working JOG is a gait of two beats (without suspension) on diagonal pairs of legs driven by impulsion. It is of medium stride length and a frame with the nose in front of vertical .

FREE JOG or (lengthening of the JOG), is a gait of two beats (without suspension) on diagonal pairs of legs driven by propulsion (the action of driving or pushing forward. It is of longer stride length and a frame with the nose in front of vertical .
the objective is to show a clear lengthening of frame and stride while maintaining the quality of the jog.

In Dressage - The extended is similar to the lengthening, is a gait of two beats (with suspension) on diagonal pairs of legs driven by impulsion. which is more “across” the ground but with more power and ground cover.

Feel where the horse’s feet are.
Right lead starts with with the horse’s outside hind carry weight for the first beat.
The horse’s inside hind and outside front will strike the ground for the second beat.
The horse’s inside right front for the third beat.
Don’t be content with just any lope depart. Improving the lope depart will improve the quality of the lope.

Shoulder-in to Turn on the Haunches Right.
When you feel that your horse’s inside hind leg (1) is under your stirrup, move the horse’s outside shoulder-front leg (red 4) with your outside rein (5), over the inside front leg (green 2) while still maintaining weight (balance) on the horse’s inside hind leg (1).

Cowboy Dressage School of Horsemanship
Be on the BALL!

If you think of the horse’s barrel like a big beach ball, you can imagine how your weight and balance through your seat and legs can affect the roll and tilt of the ball. To roll the ball forward, your legs would move backward and you would lighten your seat. To stay perfectly balanced on the ball, you would sit with your legs and seat in alignment in the center of the ball. To stop the forward motion of the ball, you would move your legs forward and add weight to your seat. Rolling along without wobbling takes balance on both a ball and a horse!

Jerusalem of Gold - 1967
"The mountain air is clear as wine
And the scent of pines around
Is carried on the breeze of twilight,
With bells resounding.
While the trees and stones softly slumber,
The city is caught in a dream
So solitary lies the city,
And at its heart a wall.
Oh, Jerusalem of gold, and of light and of bronze,
I am the violin for all your songs.

We came back to the water wells
to the market place and the square.
On the Temple Mount within the city,
The shofar rings out loud.

Within the caverns in the mountains
A thousand suns glow,
Again, we will go down to the Dead Sea road,

That runs through Jericho.
Oh, Jerusalem of gold,
and of light and of bronze,
I am the violin for all your songs.

But as I sing to you, my city,
And you with crowns adorn,
I am the least of all your children,
Of all the poets born.

Your name scorches my lips,
If I forget thee, golden city,
Jerusalem of gold.

Oh, Jerusalem of gold, and of light and of bronze,
I am the violin for all your songs".

Palomino Pal
“I used to have a palomino when I lived in the golden West,
and we would ride the hills of Texas, 'Twas a time I loved the best.
I used to have a silver saddle, silver spurs from Mexico and when we'd ride through the silver sagebrush I would sing to my palomino.....
Palomino pal o mine, Palomino pal o mine
Sure has been a long long time
Palomino pal o mine”.
