The pups discovered sprinklers. 1 hour later clean again. How do they do that!?
And staying as cool as possible under the bush. Howard deep waters it and is their choice spot. Of course overprotective mama (me) had to add a coolaroo shade and fan.... then the mister... to cool the temp even.more. Seems to be working. Wish they liked the kiddie pool but they don't.

Did you know that just 5.3% of veterinarians in the United States are practicing on large animals and even fewer on alpacas?
YOU can make a difference.
One of the biggest deterrents to studying large animal medicine is the debt students incur.
In 2024, the National Alpaca Foundation will give a $3000 scholarship to three large animal vet students who will include alpacas in their practice.
In 2025, we’d like to give $5000 to three students.
Will you help?
By donating to the Dawn Stewart Memorial Fund, you are doing your part to help curb the large animal vet crisis.

My sincerest apologies for the last-minute cancellation. However, Howard is now recovering well after experiencing a bad case of food poisoning that required an ER visit. Wasn't MY cooking...really. No bad stuff from mom though! Pups glad for her milk bar even though they're weaning! BTW taking names for those interested in Great Pyrenees pups. Interviews for best placement for pups and families forthcoming. PM me if interested.

Sheared the alpacas last week. Went really well using Seth and his team at Top Knot Shearing and Jake. Least amount of work for us as they did most of the work other than catching and cleaning prior to shearing. Then 2 days later...snow!! Luckily we have many alpaca coats and added heaters to the barns. But such a chore to keep them warm on these cold days/nights. Glad we're getting back to 'normal' Spring temps. So are the alpacas!

Whiskey is approaching 2 months old. He's definitely growing and his eyesight seems to be improving (he has a cataract in one eye) as is his appetite! He's graduated to self feeding from his bottle. We hope this curbs him not having appropriate boundaries with humans later and not getting what is called berserk male syndrome.

Had an interesting time bringing this guy home. He's in training to guard our alpacas and learning from two other Great Pyrenees we were exceptionally blessed to get!! Love Great Pyrenees!! He's adorable and going to be a big boy!

Last day of Open Studios Tour 2023. Just a sampling of what we do with alpaca fiber to make lovely natural alpaca items and art. Studio #28.
Typical morning here... Giving our skinny girls some extra food pellets before the rest of the herd. Fantasie loves her pellets so much that her little foot dance is her way of wiggling and expressing her happiness. Her own little trait. So cute! We even named some of the black yarn she produced Fantasie's Dance.
Oh boy! A new food source!! We had to limb a tree and oh what fun to play in food!! Silly alpacas.
I've gotta be me!
I think we are all relieved we got only about 7-8" of snow this time. So much more manageable and half has already melted. Perla is celebrating by showing off her super power... twirling. Perla twerla. 😊 When I was a kid it was learning how to twirl a baton. She has me beat hands (or should I say lips!) down!
Looks like the alpacas will help clean up after the storm and downed limbs. First leaves she's had in weeks.... so completely ignoring me.
