A quick bit of math may help save your horse (and you) from heat stress/exhaustion/stroke on that Sunday ride. High temperatures and/or relative humidity can negatively affect how horses can naturally keep cool. 😎 From the chart below, horses will be in much more danger of overheating if riding at noon today in Louisiana (85 degrees + 71% relative humidity) than in Tucson, AZ (96 + 10% RH). And, yes… it is a ‘dry heat’ 🌞🌵🏜️

Imagine the bit being in front of your horse’s mouth. Instead of pulling back, you want to push him forward into the bit for a softer, springier horse. - Phillip Dutton

I got this beautiful text from one of my clinic students and it melted my heart!!!
I love what I do…..my greatest reward is watching my student “get it” and pass that on to their horse. Once that happens the possibilities are endless!

“Just wanted to thank you for teaching. I love our lessons and today I had a super ride with Ellie. Relaxed walk workout and soft trot to the right. Still working on trot to the left but I know what I need to work on. I focused on breathing, my position, my own relaxation and feeling for her - asking the hind end to move under got easier as we went - she was just super 💖”

Thank you!!

Thank you everyone that reached out to help! Jake will leave on Monday, stop at LaDena for the night then Head up towards Berryville /Eureka Springs, after that he will keep looking for kinda strangers to let him hold up for a night as he continues his journey!

Hey Arkansas horse friends. Do you know of anyone in the Gateway area that could put Jake and his 3 mustangs up for Friday night as he is passing through? He just needs a place for his horses, corral anything. It would be for 1 night! Any help or suggestions would be awesome!

Thank you Lindsay with Valor saddlery for coming up from Houston to take care of our ponies saddles. It’s always a blast when you’re here! She even helped out my friend Jake Harvath and his Mustang Mare as they are crossing the country horse back!

Look what hard work and determination can achieve. Sabrina and Dream have come so far, she has been patiently creating a happy athletic horse. One of my favorite things about being a coach is watching the light bulbs come on and being part of the ah ha moments. Creating a correct foundation takes time. It’s so easy to get caught up in quick fixes that can hurt your partner in the long run. So proud of these two! (From the very first lesson to Tuesdays lesson)

Looking for a working student to work 3 to 4 days a week. Duties would include but not limited to catching horses, grooming and tacking up. Eventually being able to back horses as their knowledge grows. Great opportunity to learn the the daily inns and outs of a training facility. Payment is in exchange for lessons. Must be at least 13 years of age and have basic horse knowledge.

Great opportunity for someone to gain experience and may lead to an assistant trainer position in time. Please message Dallas Sweat if you are interested or have any questions!

**This is not a babysitting job, it is hard work but very rewarding!

What a spectacular weekend DS Dressage had!

We thought we were going to melt in the heat on Friday but luckily it was slightly cooler on Saturday and Sunday. We had a huge successful weekend!!

Senero owned by Lee and Ridden by myself, came out for his very first show not to mention his first major outing away from home. He debuted at second level with a 63% and was a little tired for his first level test but still pulled a 64%. So proud of this lbig boy and how hard he worked for me and let me guide him around the arena.

Gwyneth Baggettand Renzi showed fourth level for the first time and received both scores needed for the first half of her silver!

Sara Palmer and Dream had their first dressage show ever. She only showed one day but received her first score for regional championships at first level!

Sabrina Reed and Dream graduated from Intro level and had their first tests in training level with respectable scores. This only being her second show ever!

Melissa Abrahamsen and Sully also had their first show ever! They started in Intro and stayed in the 70% time for training level!

I’m so incredibly proud of all of my students. You all have great dedication to learning this crazy sport. We have a great time all together and cheer each other on! I couldn’t ask for better group students and horses.

Off to Utah for the weekend, when I get back it’s crunch time to get ready for the Claremore, Oklahoma show. With all of this rain we have missed a lot of riding. So boot camp is around the corner! Everyone be ready!!!! Willy says no boot camp for him please!!

What a great weekend DSDressage had in Stillwater. Gwyneth and Renzi achieved their final score for Region Chsmpionships at third level! They just keep getting better and stronger. She had a beautiful ride on Saturday and a few bobbles on Sunday but still came away with a respectable score. 4th level here they come!

Sabrina and Dream made their showing debut this weekend. Sabrina went in and rode like a champion with great determination. They came home with 4 blue ribbons and their first show in the books.

Willy still thinks everything is going to eat him alive! Saturday’s classes he was extremely tight. But he came back this morning and actually let me guide him around the arena instead of me feeling like I’m just a passenger up there! Lol He overcame the scary warm up with all the other horses working around him. He definitely grew up this weekend. But, we need many many more miles to get his confidence up so he can show off what a talented boy he his!

Robin Hessel thank you for always hosting a wonderful show. We love coming down to be with your crew!

Carla, Tricia and Posey were the best helpers and grooms! They picked up after me and kept me on my toes. Thank you ladies for all of your help! In a few weeks we get to do it all over again!!!!!
