❓Have You Heard❓
A positive case of EEE (eastern equine encephalomyelitis) has been confirmed in Ouachita County, AR.
Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis (EEE) is an extremely rare but serious and fatal infection that causes encephalitis, an acute inflammation in the brain. The disease is spread by biting insects, primarily mosquitos and flies that have bitten infected birds.
The most common signs of EEE infection include: fever, depression, rapid changes of behavior, ataxia (inability to stand/walk), and other forms of neurologic symptoms. This disease is often fatal, with mortality ranging anywhere from 85-95%. However, it is most certainly PREVENTABLE.
It is exceptionally important that your equids, horses and donkeys alike, maintain a state-specific vaccine protocol to mitigate the risk of infection for this disease and others alike.
In the state of Arkansas, it is recommended that all equid species receive ✨biannual vaccination✨ for mosquito-borne diseases, which include: EEE, WEE, and WNV.
