Welp. I made it 9 days... I "spoke for" another goat ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

In my defense I spoke for her last summer but just sealed the deal ๐Ÿคฃ

First off! We tried something new over our break, CIDR implants, similar to an human IUD, as an estrus synchronization method. While I have done these in cattle in college, it's been awhile and I hadn't actually done them in goats hands on myself. So with help from a few friends and the best professor I brushed up on my skills and set to work. Got them all installed to the timing I needed, with Gavin's help catching goats of course, then, pulled them by myself during this arctic blast and waited for heat.

Why the heck did I think it was a good idea to put cidrs in eight goats on the same day?!? EVERYTHING HERE IS SCREAMING at the same time. ๐Ÿ™ˆ Jk but there was like 6+

But we got to put our new guy to work today!!!
Everyone, meet Dragonfly b*h Jericho, aka Sailor Jerry. You'll soon learn why. Not the best pics but just bear with me here.

He got to have a date with KidCo le sirocco 4*M
And Kidco DE chay-da chip

We have a daughter of Jericho x siri from last year's cross, her name is muddy, and she is so far phenomenal!! I am so excited to repeat this cross.

We also bred Dorothy our unreg girl!

Moonie and Blanca appeared to be coming in at dusk so we'll get them dates tomorrow! I wasn't going to pen breed them all night in the cold ๐Ÿฅถ
Moonie (Krazy-g-goats sog full moon) will go to HC farms Cosmo again to repeat that gorgeous cross from last year.

That leaves brownie, stella and spook to come in.
Brownie will be bred to King ๐Ÿ‘‘
Stella (hc farm constellation) will have a re-date with Eifel Acres DO Double shot
And Spookie (wild feather oz emerald city) will probably go with her too

NEVER dreamed I'd be breeding goats in the middle of an ice storm and a snow storm. ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿฅด๐Ÿฅธ

Listen.... I'm going to try ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ there is a small list of animals I want to add in the near(ish). A kunekune boar, a trio of chinchilla rex, and a chocolate Nigerian Dwarf goat with blue eyes from great milking lines. The goat is probably not a this year thing. The pig either.... but if they just so happen to fall into my lap ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Well we have a chicken that lives with our goats. Has since we brought her home ๐Ÿ˜‚

She was all cuddled in with the girls yesterday before the snow hit. We relocated her to the coop and closed her in for the night but she'll be back. She always is.

The snow is finally falling to blanket all this ice we have. So far there's a couple inches on top of the inch of mixed stuff from last night.

We just did our "midnight" checks.
Bedded the calves with more straw and hay to their mamas and tried to set up a wind block since the wind is changing direction.
Talked to the goats. They demanded grain. Not today kids. Maybe tomorrow in the daylight.
Found a chicken frozen in the hay trailer and we can't find the peabirds anywhere I've looked for them all day. I'm so scared we'll find them frozen too. They were here at feeding this morning and we put them up in the coop last night. ๐Ÿ˜“

Guess what? I finally have ducks y'all! And they're all in a row!!

And no we didn't get them on purpose ๐Ÿ˜‚ It was part of the mission that brought us big bird. A friend was supposed to take them, but life's been a little crazy for us both.

Weather report/Check in and say hi to some of the animals!

Mid Missouri update ! :)

We are supposed to get significant snowfall this afternoon so they claim ๐Ÿ˜‚

As we prepare for frigid temperatures, excessive snowfall and precipitation, our thoughts are with all the farmers and ranchers facing these challenging conditions. The work and sacrifice that go into caring for livestock and the land, especially in winter, often go unseen. Stay safe, reach out for help when needed, and check on your neighbors when you can.

Keeping it real

With a little less than 30 days until our kidding season kicks off and while trying to prepare for a major winter storm, the goats decided we don't have enough fun already. I found one of my sweet angel babies down, flat on the ground screaming, new years day night. We were buttoning up the barn and ending our evening. We had been outside quite literally all day. I had played and cuddled with goats all day. I don't have any ideas as to what happened but she was down. As mentioned before we had been taking action on deworming a few the last couple weeks and these two were on the radar and had been treated. So we brought her and her sister inside and have been round the clock watching them since. She was so cold when I brought her in the barn initially that a hear lamp wasn't cutting it. So in the house they came.

She's been in the heater bucket a few times now, she's had prohibit as of today, she's had all the things we can think to throw at her and from Wednesday night looking very from to much improved Thursday I was relieved. She was up and eating and seemed to be doing better. Then she tanked again this morning. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ So that's when the big gun as they say was called in. I have seen definite improvement this evening but now also today (before I dosed prohibit) she's scouring on top of this. Not good.

I think if we can just get her tummy back on the up and up she'll be ok. Send some good thoughts our way. This two are somebody specials babies.

So if I've been distracted or missed something please remind me and have some patience. I'm sorry. I'm pretty scattered right now.

Happy New year!! I know it's actually January 2nd as I post this but it's been a busy busy new years day here for us!

We came home early from our new years party (because we're all old and have kids ๐Ÿ˜‚) to check our little calf and his mama and both are doing good. He's got some folded up legs/contracted tendons a little bit, but I'm monitoring closely to see if we need to intervene. His eyes are still blue ๐Ÿ’™

Finally went to bed around 1 and slept in a hair, cuddled calf and made brunch and started our day. Most of it was spent prepping for the cold and cleaning up around outside.

We built a second goat building today! I still have to stain it and patch the large slats, but it's installed and the boys are happy!

We moved around some water tanks to make most efficiency of our heaters (electricity is limited from the barn. ๐Ÿ˜” One of those other projects that take money and it's out of sight til you need it.)

CIDRS have been placed and deworming has been closely monitored for those who needed it throughout the last week or two. Bless this weather coaster, I'm tired grandpa. ๐Ÿ™„

I spiled a whole bag of feed on the floor pulling from the stack to put in the cooler. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Now I'm up with a baby goat and her sister in the house because I found her cold at the very end of all this as we were draining the hose. ๐Ÿ˜ข The day got less and less fun as it went on. Glad I opted for another cup of coffee at 5 or 6 this evening.
