Some of the pups in level 2. The goal during this exercise is to have a relaxed pup when in close proximity to others. Gradually the chairs get closer.
If you would like to work on your pups socialization skills along with their basic skills, we have orientation for the owners every Saturday at 1pm. Orientation is free and dogs do not attend.

Tova (big pup) loves to make new friends, and CJ (little pup) isn't always so sure about making new friends. With this exercise, they started to focus on their owners, and we're able to not make a big deal over the other dog. Great progress!

Finn doing recall including "stop"
Why add an emergency stop command to your dogs commands? In the event of your dog running towards a busy street or if they start to head in the direction of another animal, teaching them "stop" can prevent any serious injuries from occurring.
Watching @resortk9 practice his jumps. Great job, Blue!!

Walking through a crowd of pups can be challenging. Everyone did so well!
Chloe's first level 3 class. She worked around Carl and did great!
It never to early to practice walking with your dog. Go to a fenced in yard. Let the pups run around. When they get interested in something. Call their name. Once…. Then make all kinds of noises to grab your pup’s attention. When they run toward you get happy give lots of love. Repeat and repeat. Practice makes perfect. Before you know it your dog will have great recall just using their name.
2 pups having fun!
We encourage you to break up the play every so often if you feel like it's getting to rough. This will teach the pups to take breaks on their own so the play does not escalate.
Also, notice Piper (American Eskimo) shaking off after being separated. This is one of the ways a dog tries to calm their energy down.
Once you feel they have calmed down enough, let them continue their play time.
Maizee, a former puppy mill dog, has made great progress in the last 3 months since starting her training and Socialization at Peaceful Paws Dog Training!
Chloe was all by herself today again.
Our afternoon classes have openings.
Chip is all alone in level 3+4 today. He got to have a training session outside 😁
RECALL TIPS
First off, make sure your dog will respond to their name in distracting areas. Play the name game wherever you go.
When your dog looks at you, call them, "Gerbil, Here!" Do this even if your dog is a foot away from you. When your dog comes to you, you should praise heavily - make it a big deal, Get excited and give more than one treat and give them physical attention as well, maybe add in their favorite toy to the rewards.
Have a drag leash or training leash on the dog in case you need to gently fish them in. As your calling them, gently lure the leash in and get excited as they are coming in your direction, praise them.
When calling them, get on the ground, be at their level.
When calling them, turn the other direction.
Your dog will not want to come to you if there's not another fun thing coming. Do not call your dog for a bath, nail trims, anything your dog does not find enjoyable.
Once your dog comes to you, release them - "Okay, Free!"
No matter how old or well-trained your dog is, they should get a high value reward for coming to you.
Do not get frustrated. They are not going to come to you if you have negative energy and tone. Always be exciting, do not yell and chase them. When it took forever to come back to you, just be happy and excited.
Do not repeat their name and do not repeat the recall cue. Add interesting and exciting sounds to help grab their attention.
Maizee has made great progress. She was rescued from a bad place so she is just now learning how to be a dog.
When bringing home a dog from an unfortunate beginning to life, it is important to take things slow and not force them.
We had attendees for Puppy social. It was a great time. So glad I had folks brave the elements.
Would you like to be a part of the Peaceful Paws pack?

What nice weather! Hoss and Daisy worked on their leash skills outside today. Can not wait for warmer days!
Delilah making progress, letting me pet her a little. It sucks when we can't know the back story of some rescue dogs, Delilah must have went through some stuff to have trouble trusting strangers. She's taking her time, all us humans can do is be patient and respect her. You can tell she wants the attention but her nerves take over. I'd say today was a good day!
