You said he was a burden, that he held you back. Now, he sits in his kennel, food untouched, eyes reflecting the emptiness. Was it the walks you hated? The sloppy kisses? This is sad…a dog can be so traumatized that when its owner finds it…it won’t respond to the owner. How I wish fireworks were banned.
Found this article…

This is a result of fireworks and my dog Biggie Smalls being reactive to them. Last year, I left him at home with music on, the blinds closed and secure inside my home but people were popping fireworks in the street. Biggie now has to have someone home with him during these times and he is medicated (by our vet) during stressful events like Fourth of July and NYE when fireworks are likely present. We believe he was trying to get in to the fridge (because it is a door leading to somewhere) to hide from the sounds outside.😣 When I got home to him he was in a daze and didn’t even recognize me. It was traumatizing for both of us.

As we prepare for the Fourth of July weekend, I hope everyone stays safe. I wanted to share some tips to help your furry friends because more pets go missing Fourth of July than any other time of year. In our case, he didn’t go missing but seriously injured himself.

1. Create a calming environment for your furbabies. Close blinds and curtains to help muffle the sounds and light from any fireworks. 🎇

2. Take your dog on a pre-firework walk/run to make it easier for them to fall asleep later in the evening. 🐕🚶‍♀️

3. Play some calming music or turn on a movie to help drown out any noises from outside activities. 🎶

4. Keep your pets inside starting as soon as the sun sets and make sure to schedule potty breaks in advance. ☀️

5. Ensure your dog is microchipped and is wearing a collar with proper identification in case they do accidentally get loose. 🐶

6. Don’t take them to any firework show. They WILL run if they do not like fireworks. 💥

7. Try a thunder shirt or if that does not help consult your vet and discuss calming medications. 💊
