This is a very scary reminder of just how quickly a roof can collapse under the amount of snow we've seen on roofs across the state this winter. The Casco area was hit very hard it seems with snow totals ranging from 18"-36" or more. Many people do not realize just how much weight there is on their roof when it hasn't been cleared all winter. 18", 24", 36"+ over the course of the winter can put a huge stress on the roof of a house, garage, barn, and even camps... It may be nearing the end of the season however it only takes a minute to get peace of mind for an estimate on removing the snow from your roof. We hope this gentleman makes a speedy recovery and are glad there were people there who quickly got him out.

CASCO (WGME) -- One man was injured and had to be removed from underneath a barn that collapsed Saturday afternoon in Casco. Crews responded to 110 Edes Falls Road in Casco before 2 p. m. Saturday after his wife found the man, who had been clearing snow around the barn before it collapsed. Officials...

We've just returned from shoveling this roof in Peru. Along our drive I noticed many properties that are listed "FOR SALE" that are buried under 2 feet of snow... I'm not a realtor, but if I was I would want my property easily accessible including the driveway, any walkways, the deck (if there is one) and the roof. How is someone supposed to get a good visual of their potential dream home if they can't see what it will look like once the snow is cleared... Here is a perfect example of what can quickly happen when an ice dam forms and there is only one place for the melting water to go... inside the house.

We began by clearing 18" of heavy, wet snow from this roof which quickly alleviated the risk for it to potentially collapse as well as showed us where the standing water was on the roof. We then accessed the ice dam and applied the proper ice melt that is safe for shingles, plants, pets, and people. Once the ice dam let's go, the next step will be to figure out just where the water is entering the home and begin the repairs... flashing, shingles, trim, sheetrock, and whatever else is needed to fix the damage $$$$

It sounds crazy that we even need to share this with the public, but today it has happened yet again...

There are "Snow Removal Businesses" in the area (names I will not post) that are getting addresses to go "Give an estimate..."; However, upon going to look at the job, they just go ahead and do the job without the homeowner being home or even ok'ing the work, and then they bill them before there's any agreed upon price for service...

This is completely unprofessional and makes those of us who run a legit, insured, snow removal business look bad.

We are sharing this in hopes that we do not hear of anyone else being taken advantage of this season, especially the elderly. There is no residential roof out there that should cost $1,000 to have cleared, let alone a 1,200 sq/ft ranch.
