Meet our new friend Willow! She's a 6 month old rescue pup. She came in for her first check up and gave everyone she met lots of kisses. Her fur momma thinks she might be part pittie or boxer, but did a DNA test on her today to find out a little more about her. It will be very exciting to see what they find out! But I can already tell you she was 100% sweet!!

All kinds of little critters that have been hiding from the cold are starting to come out with the nicer weather. Roo, a 2½ year old aussie/border mix, encountered a strange creature he'd never seen before on his walk out at Pine Dunes Forest Preserve. Don't worry, after their brief encounter they each went their separate ways happy as can be.

Looks like our last featured kitty, Pixel, has a friend out there!!
This is Sebastian, another 4 month old Maine C**n baby. His fur mama shared with us that he is a Polydactyl on all 4 paws which is rare. He has 6 toes on each front paw and 7 toes on each back for a total of 26 toes with the world record being 28.... so soooo close! His favorite toys are springs and fuzzy balls!

We saw a gorgeous little Maine C**n kitten last week for her check up and booster shot. Her name is Pixel and she is 4 months old.
She had a good time during her photo shoot with our tech assistant Maddy.
Maine C**ns have tufted ears, long uneven fur and feathery tails. They are also usually polydactyl cats which means that they have more toes than average cats.
Fun fact: Maine C**n cats love water!

What to do with your dog or cat on New Year's Eve:

• Tire out your pet before the festivities begin! Long walks and exercise will burn up their energy and help them settle down later.

• Create a quiet, calm, safe space for your pets indoors away from the noise and check on them throughout the night. Many pets are scared of fireworks, so be sure they are in an escape-proof area as midnight approaches.

• Keep your pets away from dangerous substances! No alcohol, no sweets, and make sure to keep them away from the table and unattended plates of food. Also, be sure to secure the lids on the garbage cans.

• ID tags and collars are a must! Parties bring ample opportunities for pets to escape through front and back doors. Make sure your pet’s collar fits properly. If they are microchipped, make sure the chip is registered with up to date information. If your pet does become lost, contact your local animal control, the non-emergency line for the policy department, and surrounding shelters immediately. If you find a lost pet, either take them to the address on their tag, call the non-emergency line for the policy department, or bring them to a local animal shelter so they can be reunited with their family.

• Pick up party decorations! Confetti and other party decorations can liven the atmosphere but can cause injury or illness if ingested or chewed on by your pet. Use party decorations within a confined space (away from pets, if possible) and clean up as soon as you can.
