EHV 1 and EHM outbreak in Wisconsin. Cases have also been reported in VA, OH, TN in recent weeks.

Symptoms include fever (temp over 101.5F) cough, nasal discharge, and lethargy most commonly. Vaccinated horses can still get the neurologic form of this disease which is caused by mutation of the virus.

EHV1 boosters are recommended, and should be included with your regular spring vaccines.

Please limit travel for your horses to help prevent spread of disease, and contact your vet if your horse has these symptoms.

Spinal mobility is the core of physical health.

For humans or animals, the spine is the protector of the central nervous system, the nerves that are responsible for every single thing that takes place in the body.

For our horses, we often talk about flexion/extension and lateral bending which should be initiated through the back.

However, we rarely talk about compression and decompression!
Decompression occurs with active elongation …… such as when your horse seeks the bit. A key movement for mobility and strength of the small stabilizing muscles between the vertebrae, where the nerves run to the limbs, and where nerve impingement takes place.

Seeking the bit is a key movement for spinal health that is often skipped over in training.

For humans, active stretching is the key to elongation. Get out those yoga mats! Isometric strength helps decompress the skeleton!

Take time to take care of your spine!! And your horse’s!

A gentle reminder today that nothing is PERFECT
not one of us is SYMMETRICAL

PROGRESS is a comparison only to previous personal performance.

Today, accept the PROGRESS you see within yourself and your animals. No matter how small it seems. Look for the CONNECTION, which can be emotional, physical, or just energetic. A sense of presence in this one moment to be thankful for.

We who get to interact with ANIMALS and surround ourselves with humans seeking the animal to human bond are blessed to experience a different sense of being than most modern humans. We get to experience a unique connection that most have lost touch with.

Today feel that connection, no matter how small. This is PROGRESS in itself. A small peaceful perfect moment of connection can easily slip by unnoticed.

Be present enough today to notice, to experience, to be thankful.
You deserve it!

Safely back in IL after a journey of Teaching in Ocala, site planning for a house near WEC with my architect husband JerMe Bentley, and then down to Wellington to work on some of my favorite horses and see some of my favorite people!!

Final Pit Stop to see Nikki Jewell and Beth Sabor in Kentucky for a ride and work!

And Alaska learned how to travel and is struggling with being left alone from her momma!! But she did great!

And don’t forget the manatees and turtles we saw!!
