Farm life!

River has lived on the farm since he was just a couple of months old. Sweetest boy. He and his litter mates were found abandoned on a river bank back in August 2016. All but River and his brother, Onyx, were adopted.

Racer spent wayyyy too much time in a crate. He came to us severely malnourished and open sores at the points of each hip bone. His foster, my mom, fattened him up and had him vetted. She gave him the chance that he deserved.

He is flourishing and LOVES toys. He. Is. A. Superchewer! Luckily he only chews on toys. And sticks. 😂

Of course it’s time for some Harry Potter pups ;)

Their story: The woman said there was another pup with this crew where they were dumped. That one was killed in the road. 😭
They stopped to move his body out of the road. She looked over and saw one looking at them. Then they found all 4 together. Every shelter and rescue was full, so she fed them and took care of them the best way she could.

When we had room open up, of course we took them.

URGENT help needed rehoming these TWO kitties. To no fault of their own, these cats need a new home fast. Their owner has been stricken with very serious health issues and cannot care for them any longer. They’re healthy, live indoors and have no medical or behavioral issues. They are altered and vaccines were maintained, but they are overdue (we will update - no fee to adopter).

We desperately want to keep them together, as they are older kitties, but will separate if needed. Please text 937-605-4060 with serious inquires only. Located in Springfield, OH. Transport can be arranged.

Hyper Piper in a Diaper is at our Ohio vet this morning for a minor eyelid injury after getting into a scuffle with her canine sister a couple days ago. She’s so nervous, but doing great. For a little 34 pound dog, she has a LARGE bark. 🙉

We wanted to give everyone an update on Renly. Most of our loyal followers will remember Renly from the cold winter months, when he came to us as the worst mange case we had ever encountered.

Renly transferred from our rescue to our partners at Paws Across Pittsburgh, where he found his forever home. Being the sweetheart that he is, we are happy that he will also have a canine sibling to share life with. Here are a couple photos of Renly with his new mom and new canine best friend!

Bentley came to us when a local hoarder was cleaned out several years ago. We were never able to find a rescue for him so he’s lived happily at his foster, Back Roads Pups. About a month ago we received some devastating news that Bentley has Large B Cell Lymphoma.

Thankfully, we were able to assume his care years ago, as we know the hoarder he came from would not have 1) have him checked when his neck lymph nodes began to swell or 2) allowed him treatment to buy a little more time for us to spoil him.

He’s now taking chemo treatments every couple weeks. After every treatment he gets some chicken nuggies. We know this treatment will only extend his quality of life for a short period of time, but for now he is happy and still enjoying his country life. He has a soft bed, a full belly and all the things he needs, including good scratches and belly rubs.

(You will notice Bentley only has one eye. This happened from a freak accident when he encountered a wild turkey!)

Lucky Boy
57 pounds
Collie mix (?), Flat coat retriever (?)

This beautiful boy is a true rescue case. Luckily, a concerned citizen took action when they saw him tied and tangled in a cable, with no food, water or shelter from the excessive heat (98 degrees, not counting heat index!). It appeared to his rescuers that he had been in that state for quite some time. 😞 The people immediately took him to their home and started giving him water and wiping him with cool towels. He couldn't walk and had to be carried. They got him cooled down and hydrated then his fur started coming off his back (somewhat graphic photos). They put wound care spray to keep the flies away and start treating it and took him to the vet in the following days. The vet said it was a severe sunburn and gave salve and antibiotics for Lucky.

Lucky Boy’s back is currently healing. He is safe but these good people are not able to keep him and we are seeking a foster or adopter for him.

You can tell from the photos, he is a sweet dog. He rode in the backseat of the truck to the vet and was so good. Never whimpered and just sat looking out the window. He will follow you anywhere and be right by your side. He is so "Lucky."

From his current foster: Could you help us find Lucky a new home? He is a very sweet dog and loves to be loved on. He also has a limp that we believe is due to him being tangled up for so long on his cable. His leg was swelled about 3 times the size of the other one. It looks normal now, but he does have a limp. He runs, jumps and plays fine.

Myka completed all three canine good citizen tests yesterday and trick dog! Hard to believe she was at risk for euthanasia six months ago at Tri-County Animal Shelter - Clearfield, Ky! Myka has big things to do in this world including advocating for animal shelter adoptions! How many wonderful Mykas have been killed due to euthanasia from over population?! Please spay and neuter!

Update on Renly: 🐾 30 pounds 🐾 Approximately 1 years old 🐾 Demodectic mange and obvious skin infection 🐾 Roundworms, hookworms, whipworms 🐾 Skin is too tough (and painful) right now to do bloodwork for 4dx heartworm test - will hopefully do that in a couple weeks at follow up Treatment plan: nexgard, deworming, antibiotics, antifungal, steroid, pain meds Follow up in approximately two weeks. Thank you for the donations thus far! He will be recovering inside with his own soft bed and will be safe, with plenty of food and fresh water. What a little fighter. ❤️‍🩹

A lot of people have said they miss the videos of the dog walks on the farm. I, personally, don’t get to foster much right now between my schedule and the fact that I’ve reached saturation with the number of dogs I have. But it’s a long weekend and I decided to take a walk with the nine dogs here with me now. 🥰 Happy Memorial Day weekend! And for the local friends, if you want to take your dog and hang out while eating some ice cream, head over to Roll Over Rolled Ice Cream (all the ice cream flavors are named after Back Roads dogs). They serve dairy free pup cups and introduced dog treat flights yesterday!!!

Piper’s squeaky toy game is STRONG!!!

Rescue Rotts are the best 😍 His name is Deuce, but we call him Gooey Squish because he’s so gooey and squishy. He wins hearts everywhere we go! (He’s not for adoption, we rescued him for our family)

Update on the “neuro” (?) puppies...see for yourself. We still aren’t sure what their issue was but they’ve pushed through 😍 Thanks for all the support, it was a stressful time.

Thanks to all of you for your donations! We cannot catch up. We are currently at the vet with some very sick puppies, exhibiting neurological symptoms. These pups were found on the side of a rural gravel road, no signs of a momma. The vet estimates them at only five weeks old and we are all exhausted. We were able to raise $2000 this week, still owe $1000, and now these babies are critical.
