🐕 Building Your Dog's Confidence with Eisern K9s 🐾

Want to help your pup become a confident, well-rounded dog? It starts with the right training and environment! Here’s how you can help your pup build confidence:

Obedience & Trick Training
Teaching your dog basic obedience and fun tricks boosts their self-esteem and gives them a sense of accomplishment. Mastering commands like “sit,” “stay,” or new tricks builds trust between you and your dog.

Confidence Building Games
Games like scent work training and agility challenge your pup in fun ways that encourage problem-solving. These activities make training exciting and help your dog overcome challenges!

Don’t Coddle Your Pup
Resist the urge to coddle your pup when they’re uncertain. Comforting them too much can reinforce fearful behavior. Instead, stay calm and supportive—allow them to face new experiences head-on, and reward them for curiousity.

Be a Confident Handler
Your dog looks to you for cues. When you’re calm and confident, they’ll feel more secure.

Start building your dog’s confidence today with structured obedience training and engaging confidence-building games with Eisern K9s! Let’s transform your pup into the bold, happy dog they’re meant to be.

A trained dog =/= a well-behaved dog.

Going to an obedience class once a week does not make your dog well-behaved. Teaching tricks and commands such as sit, down, spin, and shake will not teach your dog not to jump on people, bark at the door, or pull on the leash.

Hard work, consistency, and structure will help teach your dog to be polite and well mannered in a variety of situations. Your trainer should help you learn how to integrate what you learn in class into real world situations!

Our Good Citizen course was designed to help you turn your dog from an unruly pup into a model member of your community!

Training Tip: Socializing your puppy isn't about meeting every human or dog they meet. Overdoing this can lead to reactivity in the future. The goal of socialization should be exposure and teaching neutrality.

What People Think Socializing Is:

- Off-lead playtime
- Puppy classes focused on play
- Meeting new people and dogs

What Socialization Should Be:

- Exposure to new sights, sounds, and smells
- Controlled introductions to new people and dogs
- Teaching neutrality and focus in all environments
- Introductions to grooming and body handling for vet visits

If you want a neutral, confident dog finding a qualified trainer to help you during the puppy raising process is vital. Contact us today if you have any questions!

Looking for a Dog Trainer? Here's What to Watch For: Red Flags 🚩 vs. Green Flags ✅

We recently heard from some of our clients that they have had negative experiences with previous dog trainers. From "trainers" with a lack of experience to some who used flat-out abusive methods, so the Eisern team has compiled a list for the average dog owner looking for a trainer!

Choosing the right dog trainer is crucial for your dog's well-being and your long-term success as a team. Here’s what to keep in mind:

🚩 Red Flags:
- Promises of a "quick fix" or instant results.
- Trainers who believe in alpha theory or claim your dog needs to be "dominated" to behave.
- Use of compulsion-based training methods
- Trainers who don't have experience in the issue that you and your dog are facing
- Trainers who offer behavior modification, service dog training, or other specialized fields without the ability to provide references and proof of experience

✅ Green Flags:
- Emphasis on building a trusting, respectful relationship with your dog
- Customized training that considers your dog's individual needs, temperament, and learning style
- Focus on long-term results and helping you understand your dog’s behavior, rather than offering shortcuts

Your dog deserves a trainer who will help them grow with compassion and clarity. At Eisern K9s, we prioritize you and your pup's relationship and comfort, without sacrificing results. If you would like to learn more about Eisern K9s go to www.eisernk9s.com. 🐾

We could not be more proud of Vinny and Bucky. These two recently completed our behavior modification course.

Bucky is a bully breed mix with genetic aggression issues, who came to us with a prior bite record. He was unable to be walked, struggled with aggression towards family members in the home, and his family was exhausted from always being on edge with him. He now enjoys walks in the park, hanging out with his owners, and can ignore kids and other dogs without reacting. For his safety, he will continue to be muzzled in public, but look how cute his new muzzle is!

Whether you are trying to train complex behaviors like retrievals, or something as "simple" as a sit, if you see your dog is confused by what you are asking, reward their attempts! When we reward their small motions in the right direction we give our pups more confidence to continue towards the final behavior we want.

For example, if you are trying to lure your dog into a sit and they seem confused or "frozen" you should mark and reward any attempt to follow the lure, slowly raising the criteria and only rewarding when your pup gets closer to actually sitting, until they are regularly completing the sit command!

Dogs have been working with people for centuries. Think hunting dogs, herding dogs, police dogs, or search and rescue dogs. But have you heard of conservation dogs?

Conservation dogs fall mainly into two categories: poaching protection and scent-detection dogs. Poaching protection dogs protect vulnerable species, such as Rhinos and Elephants, from poachers while scent detection dogs locate invasive species, animal s**t, endangered species, and more with their strong sense of smell.

AKC Rally is a sport that any dog & handler team can enjoy. It allows you and your pup to showcase your teamwork, obedience, and dedication to training.

You & your pup navigate a course that is made up of a multitude of signs that tell you what command to complete. Each team begins with 100 points, and points are deducted for any mistakes that are made. Unlike competition obedience, you are allowed to talk to and encourage your dog throughout the course which can make it a less nerve-wracking experience for those who are new to dog sports!

After qualifying three times the team is awarded a title. Rally has three levels, Novice, Advanced, and Excellent. Rally is open to all dogs registered with the American Kennel Club, including the Canine Partners & PAL programs.

Our Novice Rally course is open to any dog with its Advanced Canine Good Citizen (Community Canine) or who has completed our Beginner Obedience course. Find out more about our Rally courses at https://www.eisernk9s.com/courses-programs/performance-dog-center and let us know if you have any questions!
