That Spider Chick

That Spider Chick This is a page dedicated to the joy of Jumping Spiders! Msg us for more information on our awesome spoods! Taking care of them is a full-time job!

We love all jumpers but mainly focus on common breeds such as Phidippus Audax, Phidippus Regius and random garden jumpers native to Wisconsin. Sometimes when a mama spider and a daddy spider love each other very much they end up with about 100 babies! They need water and flies and little cups to live in. please contact us for more information on spiderlings!

These are the actual Phidippus Audax I have for adoption, 10 subadults and 20 3-4I which are not pictured.

There are also 3 Zebra spiders (salticus scenicas) although I cannot guarantee live arrival because they are so fragile. I will do my best to cushion them but when it’s out of my hands, it’s out of my hands.

PLEASE HOLD REQUESTS FROM THE MIDWEST, NORTHEAST OR NORTHWEST US UNTIL APRIL 15 AS TEMPERATURES WILL BE TOO LOW TO SHIP BUT TOO HIGH FOR A HEAT PACK. Heat is more responsible for fatalities during shipping than cold and it must go ground because of lack of air in an airplane overnight. Keep this in mind when considering adopting a jumping spider sling.

Please message me privately for more details and personalized shipping terms, I do my best to get your spood to you with speed at the lowest cost to you!!

I also accept donations towards the overall care of all spiders and feeder insects, anything is greatly appreciated and every penny goes into improving their lives.

Looks like lil spodes have plenty of room now to be fed, played with and have lots of light and warm to keep them happy!

Mama Phyllis has some competition! Princess Tiabeanie has finally laid her eggsac and I am honestly amazed at how big it is compared to the audax sacs. It will be 2-3 weeks before the babies even come out of the sac so look for them maybe mid-late summer!

Unfortunate update,

Two things are heavy on my mind: a death in my immediate family and the new IRS laws surrounding sending and receiving money over a third-party app.

While I could still send and receive using a personal option, this doesn’t provide any kind of protections for you OR me. I’d prefer it to be protected but I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to keep up with the additional paperwork I now need to have and keep. I certainly don’t have any of the receipts from starting all this, it was collected gradually over a few months and I didn’t think I could DO anything with the hobby until recently.

If anyone out there has a better grasp on this than I do, please reach out to me and hopefully I can learn something.

As for the plans for the next 7 days-January 10-17, I will be unavailable to answer messages. The spoods will be fed and happy and growing so don’t count out getting a juvenile Audax completely as I will be back soon.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!

Unfortunate update(s),

The IRS has updated to be reported any income above $600 in a calendar year made on third-party money transfer apps (PayPal, Venmo, cashapp). This doesn’t apply to personal transfers so don’t worry about getting hit up for taxes on a gift from mom or if you loan a friend money. It DOES apply to any “business” transaction labeled under “goods and services”. If both sender and receiver want protection from shady happenings they need to label it under “goods and services” so most side hustles want that label for the protection it brings both parties. There’s no such protection for personal transfers.

So now I run into a problem. I don’t know exactly how to run spider adoption without protections for both you and I for any delivery costs or replacements in special circumstances. I certainly can’t just deal in cash and I’m not sure about money orders, they would still need to be cashed regularly. I haven’t kept receipts for the things I bought to start this, it all was acquired gradually over months and I have no idea how much it cost altogether.

I would have to prove I adopt them at a loss. Without receipts it’s impossible to tell. I just wanted to share my spiders with the world but I already make dangerously close to the cutoff point for state insurance. I can’t make any more money or I’ll have to start paying out of pocket for my type 1 diabetes costs. This puts me in a difficult position. I welcome any suggestions. It’s still a month or so until temps pick up enough to deliver so I have time to figure it out.

I won’t be able to answer any messages in the coming week, January 10-17, as I’ve had a death in the family and need to take some time to make sure things are squared away.

Said family member would have loved for any amount donation to any childhood charity in lieu of personal condolences, so if you throw a couple pennies in the nearest collection box for children’s charities it would honor the memory of my family member. Thank you ☺️

She is munching on a fresh cricket and he’s just hanging out with his fangs out. She and he will probably be introduced and attempt pairing this week.

Spooder info!

I have babies that were born December 3rd who are mostly 3-4 instar. They might be physically ready by the middle of January but since I live in Wisconsin, shipping is iffy and expensive. It would be best to wait to send any out until March at least but I know that some would like one earlier. My deepest apologies on this but the health of the spood takes precedence.

I also have babies that were born just on Dec 24, those would be ready by March with no issues at all.

Send nothing now, recontact in February when it’s safer for spiders to go out. Until then, enjoy keeping up with development and updates!
