Not to sound overly dramatic, but these things are essentially dinosaurs! And believe it or not, we still have three (3) of these HP Elitebook 8760Ws in our laptop fleet. Their last date of manufacture was 2011!! 💻💻💻

We received these as a generous donation in 2016 from a local business. They've been with us for a long time and they've done a lot of really important work - like processing more than 5,000 adoptions!! But it’s time to say goodbye to these pre-historic devices. They're trying their best, but their best is no longer good enough. We need your help replacing them!!

Here are just a few of our least favorite features:

💻 Super Slow Processing Speed: Tasks that should take seconds take minutes. Whether it’s processing adoptions, managing our care records, or communicating with our supporters, it's a slow grind.

🪫 The Batteries: Or should we say the paperweights? Once unplugged, it’s game over. We’re always tied to an outlet, and that’s less than ideal in a fast-paced mobile world. We have to be ever-so-careful not to even bump the cord or we lose power.

⚡️ Outdated Ports: We’ve got a VGA port (but no HDMI) – yep, a VGA port. It’s like trying to connect with the 21st century using a walkie-talkie. We could really use something a little more modern to make our work easier – especially when we need to connect to a display screen.

⚖️ Heavy and Bulky: If you’re looking for a good forearm workout, this beast is your new best friend. It legitimately weighs almost as much as a 10lb dumbbell (7.66 lbs). We’re looking for something a little more portable!

We're ready to welcome in some new(er) technology that’ll help us change more lives. With updated, faster, and more reliable technology, we can: speed up important tasks, stay connected on the go, reduce delays in our response times, and increase the satisfaction of our loyal and deeply committed staff.

Our goal is to fund or receive a minimum of three new laptops (at least new to us)! There are multiple ways to make this happen, but here are the two simplest ways:

1) Our generous supporters help us raise the necessary funds by making a donation to this fundraiser.

2) A generous corporation that is upgrading their team's technology raises their hand to donate some of their retired units. Maybe tag your business' IT leader in this post?? Any business that is able to help with this request can email us at [email protected].

Our criteria for a "new" unit:
📏 15+ inch display
🐇 Modern-day processing speed
🔋 Working battery
⚡️️ HDMI port
🪶 Much lighter weight
💻 As you've probably gathered, we're not opposed to taking on something that's a few model years old, but we'd prefer that it was manufactured within the last 3 years.

If we purchase three new laptops outright, we anticipate a budget range of $2,400-$2,700 in total.

Sir is the whole package — handsome, house-trained, and full of love!

This charming guy knows the house rules and is perfectly content to relax when left alone. He walks beautifully on a leash, making walk time one of his favorite parts of the day. He’s also a smart cookie who understands basic commands and is generally well-mannered — as long as things don’t get too wild. A little too much excitement can overstimulate him, so he’s hoping for a calm and steady home.

Sir is a big fan of attention but isn’t always sure how to ask for it. Once he figures out that you’re there to give him love, he’ll be your shadow — cuddling up next to you and soaking up all the affection you have to give. He’s not super into toys, but human attention? That’s his love language.

He does ok with other dogs in calmer settings, but a high-energy, chaotic environment might be too much for him. He’s also great with older kids who understand that sometimes Sir needs a little space to decompress. Cats, however, are probably not his thing — he’d prefer a home where he can be the center of attention.

Sir has a energy level and would thrive in a moderate activity home where his people understand the importance of helping him stay calm. He’s sweet, loving, and eager to please — the kind of dog who will grow into the perfect companion with time and consistency.

👑 Meet Hazel – The Queen of Head Boops and Catnip Kicks 👑

Hazel has had her paws full — raising two kittens is no small feat! But now that her little ones have found their own homes, this 3-year-old queen is more than ready to enjoy some well-deserved “me time.” 😸

Hazel is the perfect mix of independent and affectionate. When she’s in the mood for love, she’ll saunter over and give you the sweetest head boops — a gentle reminder that it’s time for some royal attention. But don’t expect her to be a fan of being picked up — she’ll tolerate it (because queens have manners), but she’d much rather curl up next to you on her own terms. 👑

National Volunteer Week is fast approaching (April 20-26), but at HEA, we're going to celebrate a week early! As HEA's Volunteer Program Manager, I have a closely related favor to ask.

I believe wholeheartedly in HEA's mission to increase humanity's capacity to care for its companion animals. And at the core of that mission—the thing that makes it real, the thing that propels it forward—is the people who show up every single day to make it happen.

There are nearly 250 volunteers who donate more than 30,000 hours per year to HEA. That's almost 600 hours per week that are being invested in fostering cats and dogs, pairing pets and families, receiving generous supply donations, transporting animals to their spay & neuter surgeries, training new volunteers, maintaining buildings, serving as ambassadors for HEA's adoptable pets as part of community engagement efforts, and SO MUCH more!

Volunteers show up every day of the year! And because they're such an important part of humanity, they know the animals and the mission are counting on them.

But you know what? The work they do is just one part of what makes them amazing!

The thing that inspires me most about HEA's volunteers is the way their commitment to animals creates incredible human bonds. When a fellow volunteer loses a beloved pet, when a family member is sick, when life gets hard, the HEA family shows up for each other. And they celebrate all of life's greatest moments all the same—adding a family pet, landing a new job, getting married, a newborn grandchild, personal health journeys, and the many important milestones throughout life.

Being part of the HEA family is not just about volunteering; it's about creating a community, built on a shared love for companion animals and for each other.

And these people deserve to be celebrated!

Grayson is the definition of a lovebug!

This sweet 1 1/2-year-old boy is all about the pets and cuddles — if you’re looking for a snuggle buddy, Grayson’s your guy! He’s playful when the mood strikes, especially when it comes to string toys, balls, and kicker toys (cue the adorable bunny kicks).

You’d never guess Grayson was once a barn cat — he’s such a social, charming guy that it was clear he deserved a life of comfort and love. And he’s adjusted to indoor life like a pro! Every time you walk into his foster room, Grayson greets you like a dog — meowing, twirling in circles, and rubbing up against you with excitement.

He’s super food-motivated and LOVES mealtime 🍽️. While he’s not a full-on lap cat yet, he’ll happily climb into your lap for some face rubs and affection. Oh, and he’s a total “floppy” boy — always flopping over for belly rubs… though be warned, belly rubs often turn into playtime!

Meet Peetee!

Peetee is a sweet boy with a big heart, once he learns to trust you. When he’s in his crate, he settles in quickly—curling up under the blankets and falling asleep. He’s completely quiet through the night and is fully potty trained!

Peetee can be a little shy at first, especially when meeting new people while being held—he tends to get a bit protective. But if he’s on a leash, he feels more secure and listens better. He’s very good in his crate and will often tuck himself under a blanket for a cozy nap.

Once Peetee feels comfortable, his playful side comes out! He loves squeaky toys and gets a kick out of you tossing them in the air so he can play keep-away or tug-of-war. He’s also a big fan of wrestling and will happily engage in a fun game with you. Peetee has a funny habit of playing with his food or treats—he’ll toss them in the air, roll on them, then pick them up and start all over again. It’s ridiculously cute!

This 6lb 3-year-od Chihuahua is a loyal and loving little guy, but he definitely likes to do things his own way. He enjoys chasing squirrels in the yard and barking at other dogs—though if they bark back, he’s quick to retreat indoors. His favorite place is under a blanket, whether it’s on your lap or curled up in a cozy spot. Sometimes it’s hard to find him because he’s so tucked in, so future adopters should always check before sitting down!

He would do best in a quieter home without too much hustle and bustle. He’ll likely bond closely with one person, and once you’re his person, you’ll know it. His signature move? Sitting back on his hind legs and crossing one front paw over the other—it’s adorable!

Peetee might need a little time to warm up, but once he does, he’ll be a loving and playful companion. He’s ready to find a safe place where he can relax, play with his toys, and nap under all the blankets. Could you be Peetee’s person? ❤️ heanokill.org/howtoadopt

Canon is the total package—cuddly, playful, and always ready to shower you with love!

The second he sees you, his purring motor kicks into high gear. He’ll happily curl up in your lap, gazing up at you with adoration. But be warned—if you’re not giving him enough attention, he might give you a gentle nibble to remind you he’s there (his foster family is working on that!).

This little 5-month-old is full of energy and loves to entertain himself by chasing his toys around the room. His favorites? Springs, fuzzy balls, and wand toys! He’s even learning to play fetch—yes, you read that right! Canon is basically a dog disguised as a cat.
