Otie’s favorite place to be is right by her people... whether that’s hanging out in the same room, cuddling close during the day, or snuggling up at bedtime. She’s incredibly sweet, loves sitting on laps, and happily hands out gentle kisses to those she trusts.

She also has a fun, silly side. Otie enjoys her toys, going for walks, playing with other dogs (she absolutely loves her playgroup!), and calmly watching the world go by from a sunny window.

If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate companion who truly loves her people, apply now at heanokill.org/howtoadopt to meet Otie! Otie is currently located at our Sanctuary near Marion, WI, where any meet-and-greets with her will take place.

Meet Gizmo!! 😍💙

Gizmo is a shy but curious boy who takes some time to trust, but once he does, his personality is incredibly endearing. At first, this 8-month-old Yorkie/Pug mix may scamper away if you try to pick him up, but once he feels safe, he’ll happily stand up on his hind legs, tail wagging, waiting to be scooped up.

Gizmo isn’t a fan of cold or snowy weather, but he’ll go outside to potty when needed. He’s naturally curious and often follows his confident roommate, Sage, who has helped him come out of his shell. While another dog in the home could help boost his confidence, it’s not a requirement. Gizmo is looking for a patient home that will let him open up on his own timeline, and when he does, the reward is so worth it.

Apply to meet Gizmo! heanokill.org/howtoadopt

Gizmo has an adoption investment of $500. Gizmo's higher adoption investment does not mean we value his life more than others. We do not see dogs like Gizmo enter our care very often. Therefore, his higher adoption investment will help create a financial legacy for the dogs that stay in our care for longer periods of time or require significant medical investment.

Meet Napoleon!

This handsome one-eyed boy is as sweet as they come. He can be a little shy at first in a new environment, but he’s great with kids and does wonderfully with other cats. With a little patience and time to settle in, he becomes incredibly affectionate and loves behind-the-ear and neck scratches.

Napoleon is a low-key guy, still gaining confidence after his eye surgery, and he’s truly blossoming day by day. He adores tummy rubs and loves curling up next to his feline buddy for naps. With his stunning green eye and gentle spirit, he’d likely enjoy having another kitty friend in his future home.

This 1-year-old is sweet, cuddly, and becoming more curious every day, a truly lovable companion ready for his forever family. Apply today! heanokill.org/howtoadopt

HEA’s Core Care Clinic is here to ensure that every dog and cat receives the essential veterinary care they need to live a happy, healthy life. This clinic provides core services like vaccinations, testing, microchipping, and preventatives at a cost-effective, accessible rate for all pet owners.

Our clinic is meant to complement (not replace) your pet’s regular veterinary exams. Routine wellness visits with your veterinarian remain important, but we know that many vet clinics are booked out weeks or months, and that cost can be a barrier. The Core Care Clinic is designed to bridge that gap and offer families a reliable, affordable way to keep their pets protected and up to date on the care they deserve.

We believe every pet, regardless of circumstance, should have access to basic preventative care. By offering this clinic to the community, we hope to keep pets healthier, support owners when access is limited, and strengthen the well-being of our community as a whole.

This is an appointment-based, drive-up clinic, making your visit quick and stress-free. Stay in your car while our team checks in your pet, brings them inside for services, and returns them right back to you.

🐶 Services for Dogs:
Rabies ($15) • Distemper Combo ($30) • Bordetella ($20) • Microchip ($25) • Dewormer ($20) • Heartworm Test ($30) • 4DX Test ($40) • Monthly preventatives (varies)

Meet Peach!

Peach is a sweet, affectionate 5-month-old puppy who has made incredible progress in a short amount of time and is quickly blossoming into a wonderful companion. She is house trained, crate trained, and does especially well in her crate with a sound machine on. Peach walks nicely on leash, is learning sit and stay, and responds well to the cue “pause” when going in and out of doors.

This lab-mix is very gentle and loving with children and has done great with an 8-year-old, happily accepting tummy rubs and giving kisses in return. Peach also plays appropriately with other dogs, including a 15 lb corgi/chihuahua mix. She enjoys cuddling, belly rubs, and being close to her people. When meeting new people, she may be a bit reserved at first but warms up quickly, especially in a home setting.

Peach has a medium energy level typical of a puppy: she’s happy to play, explore, and zoom around, then curl up for a nap on the couch, recliner, or bed. She loves crinkle toys, chew bones like Benebones, and running around in the snow.

When Peach first arrived, she was timid and unsure, startled by unfamiliar sounds. In just days, she’s gained confidence, mastered furniture, stopped reacting to household noises, and truly settled into home life. She now relaxes easily while still keeping a loving eye on her people.

Peach adjusts well to routines and does great crated when left alone (especially with a treat as encouragement). She does well on a tie-out and is still working on recall. She would do well in a home with or without kids. If there is another dog in the home, Peach can be territorial around food with other dogs (not humans), so feeding separately is recommended, this may improve with continued positive experiences.

Like most puppies, Peach explores the world with her mouth, but as long as she has appropriate toys, she does not chew on shoes or household items. She will remove tags from toys, so supervision is advised.

If you’re looking for a true sidekick, Peach may be your perfect match. She is the ideal blend of cute and cuddly, strong and resilient, and eager to learn. When she’s unsure, she looks to her humans or canine companions for guidance, and once she masters something, she confidently moves forward on her own. Apply today! heanokill.org/howtoadopt

Meet Donut, a playful 5-month-old Labrador Retriever mix who will likely grow into a larger dog. He has tons of puppy energy and loves to run, play, and explore everything around him. Donut is always ready for a little adventure and enjoys spending time with his humans.

He previously lived in a foster home with other dogs and cats and did well with them, showing he can get along with other pets. Donut is also getting the hang of puppy training and basic commands, which means he is already on his way to becoming a well-behaved companion.

If you are looking for an active, loving, and playful pup to join your family, Donut would be thrilled to meet you. Apply now to meet him, heanokill.org/howtoadopt

🌟Meet Meghan — This Month’s Featured Foster!🌟

Every foster home is a lifeline. Whether you’ve fostered one animal or one hundred, whether you started yesterday or ten years ago, you are part of the reason animals get a real chance at a new beginning. Fostering saves lives. It teaches dogs and cats what love looks like, it gives them confidence, and it opens space in the shelter so we can help the next one waiting.

And today, we’re celebrating one of the amazing people making that happen, Meghan!

Her journey is proof that there is no “right” way to start fostering. You don’t need a big house, tons of experience, or a perfect schedule, just a willingness to help and a little bit of love to give. 💛

Here is Meghan's take on fostering in her own words:

1. How long have you been fostering, and how many dogs have you fostered?
• Started fostering in April 2025 and have fostered 11 dogs so far

2. What inspired you to start fostering dogs?
• Originally volunteered for an 8-day commitment during the NFL Draft and I ended up loving the experience and continued on and then started volunteering at the adoption center

3. What types of dogs do you tend to foster?
• We are open to all types of dogs! We have not fostered super young puppies yet but they are typically between 5 months–2 years old. We have had small, large, shy, and active — a good mix!

4. How does it feel when one of your foster dogs gets adopted?
• Mix of happiness and pride and relief knowing they are in the right home for them.

5. In what ways do you think fostering impacts dogs beyond simply giving them a place to stay?
• Builds confidence
• Helps them learn routines
• Sets them up for success in a home (some dogs may have never been inside a home before)

6. The most challenging part & how you manage it
• Challenge: Time
• How you work through it: with two kids it's hard to manage the time between school, activities, work, dog care etc. but I have to remind myself (still a work in progress lol) that a few hours in the kennel at my home is still so much more beneficial than being at the shelter 24/7

7. What you’ve learned about yourself
• Patience — I seem to have more with dogs than I do with humans 🙂
• Ability to bond with different types of dogs — I always thought I was a small dog person having a Bichon/poodle mix for 18 years but I love them all!

8. What keeps you coming back
• The impact our family has on each dog and watching their personalities come to life outside of the shelter is such a great feeling

9. Something you wish more people understood about fostering
• It is something I never thought of doing until I did it and now it's hard to go a week WITHOUT a foster in the house.

10. One tip for a new or potential foster
• Ask questions! My foster mentor, Erin, received so many texts the first month of my fostering journey! She was such a big help and so is everyone else on the HEA team.

💛 Fostering doesn’t just change a dog’s life, it changes yours too.
Meghan’s story shows that anyone can be a foster hero. Busy families, people who work from home, people who’ve never fostered before , there’s room for you here.

If you’ve ever thought about fostering, even for a moment… this is your sign.
✨ Your home could be the place a scared dog learns to trust again.
✨ Your couch could be the first soft thing they’ve ever slept on.
✨ Your love could be the reason they find their forever family.

Let’s keep changing lives, one foster dog at a time. 🐾💛

Meet Georgia, a shy, 3-month-old sweetheart who just needs a little time and patience to bloom. Once she feels safe, her playful side comes out! She loves catnip toys, batting around balls, and will happily chase and leap after feather wand toys.

Georgia is also a big fan of Churu treats it might just be the way to win her heart. She’ll cautiously approach if you’re holding one, then grab it with both paws and enjoy every lick.

We’ve made a lifetime guarantee...

50% is a BIG Number

The year was 2006. The state of companion animal welfare across the nation was downright ugly. It was commonplace for 50% of the dogs and cats entering shelters to be losing their lives. Our community was no exception.

Our founder, then 21-year-old, Amanda Reitz knew there had to be another way. With her parents as co-founders, the Reitz's committed to making the welfare of companion animals their life's work. They saw the problem and leaned in. Together they set out on a journey to create positive and lasting change on companion animal welfare in our community and beyond.

HEA Today You've heard the story before about the successful business that got its start in a garage. Our story has that element too. And now HEA provides direct care for nearly 200 dogs and cats through our Green Bay adoption center location, our growing foster network, and our Sanctuary (rehabilitation and lifetime care facility) located on 40-sprawling acres in Marion, WI.
