As a clinic, there are times when we have to be cautious around aggressive animals. This time, it took a bad turn... 😔

As our client care specialist, Cassie, was on vacation, she had left her 2 piranhas at the clinic for us to watch over without prior warning. Though we try to use our training to avoid these situations, one of our vet assistants fell prey to them.

Sarah went to feed them when her finger was tragically taken off and left this note to warn others:

"Tank aggressive. Took my finger clean off. It grew back..." - Sarah

We call ourselves a second family here, which means that we also get to mess with each other a bit! This is obviously a joke, and we love that we have such incredible staff who help make work days fun. Little things, even things like this, bring us all closer together and keep us functioning as a family. ❤

Doesn't Sophie have the most precious little face?

This ✨ adorable ✨ little girl was just 8 weeks old when she came to Countrycare for the first time. With that sweet round head and kissable nose, she was definitely popular with our staff!

Share a picture of your pet that makes them look like the precious angel they are!

Happy 6th Anniversary, Erika! 🎉

Holistic and traditional appointments, working mainly with Dr. Strickfaden, assisting at our front desk, taking calls, and managing boarding are all tasks that Erika completes every week! Her productivity and strong work ethic always have her fishing for something to do. She is super motivated, and accomplishing her projects is always on her mind, though she doesn't mind taking a break to snuggle up with a cute dog or cat!

Determination and consideration follow her everywhere she goes, even when she's home with her boyfriend, 1 dog, 2 house cats, and 3 horses. She even raised her youngest horse, Jinx, since he was a baby, and is now competing with him in events! All of this may sound time-consuming, but don't worry, she's always willing to relax by her pool.

Erika, you are an amazing, strong-willed person with a heart of gold. Your ability to care for pets, fly through paperwork, and keep everyone laughing each day is truly honorable. We hope you know how appreciated you are as a member of the Countrycare family and have a great anniversary!

Are you prepared for Friday night? 🎆 Because Renly is!

While we see a fun display of colors and crackles, our pets may not think it's as entertaining. Their hearing is much better than ours, so if we think the sounds are loud, it's really booming for them. This matched with the unpredictability of the noise can make it a very scary time for them.

➡ Here are some ways that you can help your pet through the festivities:

1. Tell people around you that you will be lighting fireworks. If you do not regularly have a 4th of July party ending in fireworks, please let your neighbors know so they can prepare.

2. Make a space for them in a room without windows. Solid walls buffer the sounds much better, and they will not have to see all of the flashing lights.

3. Play background noise for them. Whether it's a TV or a radio, having something constantly playing makes the booming less jarring to them. It's like preparing their ears for extra noise.

4. Use a ThunderShirt. Rachel is holding Renly, a tiny Yorkie who has just won an XXS ThunderShirt from our contest. These shirts act like a hug, and provide a calming effect to pets under stress.

5. Tire them out during the day. If you're able to tire your pet out through play or a long walk, they can be much more mellow. Though your dog may still be nervous, this may prevent them from causing damage to your house or injuring themselves.

How have you prepared for the fireworks?

Can you guess this kitty's name? 🤔

This fluffy boy is almost 2 years old and is as handsome as the day is long! He is also named after a food you might order at a fancy restaurant. What do you think it is?

Flowers are in bloom here at Countrycare! 🌸

As much as we love smelling the flowers, pets seem to love it more. And, sometimes, it can end with a little chomp.

When you purchase plants, please make sure that they are safe for your own pets in case they feel like they smell delicious. Cats are notorious for chewing on plants, and we do not want to see them in here for taking a bite out of something toxic (even though we love them).

Unsure if your favorite plant is toxic? Look it up through this link on ASPCA's website to find out!

This is what a YEAST INFECTION looks like!

On Wednesday, we showed you the microscopic view of it, but it's much less pretty in person. Cleaning your pet's ears is super important so that buildup doesn't occur and develop bacteria.

Our vet techs and assistants use cotton balls, long cotton swabs, and a cleaning solution to clear it out. Though we've all heard that Q-tips are bad for cleaning our own ears, they're perfectly safe to use on pets as long as you are able to see where the end is and that it's not going too deep in the ear canal.

Ear infections can be spotted by your pet shaking its head and scratching at the ears repeatedly, though some hide it better than others. Please routinely check your pet's ears for any buildup before it becomes a larger issue!

We're sure that dogs like Brandi are happy now that the temps have gone down a bit!

Arctic dog breeds, like Huskies, are designed with a coat to help trap heat in. While it doesn't hold as much heat in summer, it still keeps hot, moist hair against their skin. This is why they will stay outside in a snowstorm like no problem, but hot days can be miserable.

If you have a thick-coated dog, share your tips on how you've kept them cool!

What is this image from? 🔬

This was a culture taken from a pet for further evaluation, but don't worry, it's not because it is so colorful!

To enhance clarity under the microscope, samples are stained with blue, pink, and purple dyes. These colors boost contrast, making it easier to distinguish the elements and their textures from the background, helping our vet techs identify details and depth more accurately.

Calico cats get all of the attention, but why not calico-colored dogs?

This is Pauli, and she is a gorgeous Cattle Dog mix puppy. Many breeds can be tri-colored or "calico," like Bernese Mountain Dogs, Corgis, and Boxers. Some even get to have the adorable brown eyebrows!

Share a picture of your tri-colored dog in the comments to show their cool colors some love!

Our Story

Countrycare Animal Complex, located in Green Bay, WI, has been serving pets and their people since 1998. We are dedicated to providing innovative and integrative veterinary care with compassion, respect and humility. We offer traditional and holistic services for dogs, cats, small mammals, birds, and reptiles.

In 2012, we created a non-profit organization to help pets in need after house fires and natural disasters. This organization is called C.A.R.E for Paws. Through C.A.R.E for Paws, we provide disaster relief kits to The Red Cross and create emergency evacuation bags for pet owners.

We celebrate and nurture the special bond between animals and humans. Our success is measured by the impact we have on each animal’s life.
