5 Tips You Can Pass Along to Keep Pets Healthy

Preventative care and regular check ups are the most important ways to keep your patients healthy and hopefully cancer free. But there are other habits pet owners can utilize to keep their furry friends happy and healthy.
Here are a few suggestions you can pass along to your patients to help their pets live their healthiest lives.
1. Don’t skip check ups. Early detection is key to preventing and treating cancer. Regular checkups are essential to understanding the health of your pet.

2. Stick to a healthy diet and exercise. Exercise has been linked to a reduced rate of cancer.

3. Avoid carcinogens. Avoid using dangerous chemicals in areas accessible to pets.

4. Spay or neuter your pet. Spaying and neutering your pet can greatly reduce the risk of developing certain cancers.

5. Limit sun exposure. Skin cancer is the most common cause of tumors in dogs and is dangerous for all animals. Limit exposure to ultraviolet rays when possible.

Elsie came in this week for her dental progress check and was feeling much better! Here’s Dr.Humphrey giving her some rubs and she was loving it. Clients mentioned they noticed her being more active at home and was even more social with the other pets after her dental procedure! Dental care is very important in our pet’s life and there are many different options besides brushing such as dental treats, and water additives to help reduce plaque! Please give us a call if you want to make a pre-dental exam or have any questions! 🐾

We have been using acupuncture as one way to improve the lives of our patients here at Animal Care Center of Green Valley!
Here we have lovely Max enjoying his treatment with Dr.Martin in a comfortable bed and peanut butter treats and he absolutely loves it!
Conditions for which electro-acupuncture may be particularly beneficial include weakness or paralysis of the limbs, severe back or neck pain, and conditions of neurologic origin such as laryngeal paralysis or degenerative myelopathy.

Electro-acupuncture is a form of acupuncture where the traditional needles are placed in acupuncture points and then attached to small, wired clips that can deliver low level electrical stimulation to the points. Important benefits of this include stronger stimulation which can lead to a quicker response, and increased efficacy in treating deeper or more long-standing problems. Traditional Chinese practitioners also believe that electroacupuncture can be used to “conduct” good energy from a normal part of the body to a “weaker” area. For example, connecting the front end to the hindquarters to treat weakness in the hindquarters.

Based on human accounts, the sensation of this electrical current is similar to a low-level humming or buzzing of the points. Some people compare it to a Tens unit which is used for muscle stimulation in people, which causes mild muscle twitching. It is not painful, and the levels can be tailored to each patient. Most patients tolerate this treatment very well; some even fall asleep during treatments. If a patient shows any signs of discomfort or is unable to relax, the level of stimulation can be immediately decreased or we will discontinue treatment immediately and find other ways to address their needs.
We are excited to be able to offer this treatment to our patients in addition to traditional acupuncture sessions. If you have any questions or want more information please give us a call🐾
