We are very excited to introduce our newest team member. Dr. Jena Dicharry Van Houten. She is joining us as our new associate veterinarian and we are beyond thrilled to have her!!

Dr. Dicharry Van Houten was born and raised in south Louisiana, where she graduated from LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 2023. There she focused her clinical experience on zoo and exotic animal medicine and participated in avian research. She moved to Florida in 2023 and has worked with exotic species ever since. She plans to pursue board certification in avian medicine.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband Joshua, reading science fiction, and playing video games. Together they have a dog, cat, and 3 small parrots.

While we may not be directly affected by Milton, out of caution we will be closing early tomorrow to ensure the staff will make it home safely. We plan to remain closed on Thursday October 10th and reopen normally this coming Friday. Stay safe everyone!

Due to unforseen circumstances we will not be open this Sunday (September 22nd) or the following one (September 29th).

We will also have no doctor the morning of Monday 23rd, we will have normal services after 12pm.

We will be closed tomorrow 8/28 as Dr Romo is learning as much new stuff as he can at the Joint ARAV/AEMV conference. Well open again for regular hours on Thursday 8/29. Don't worry about your boarding pets, there will be someone taking care of them as usual.

No matter how big or small, all pets should have wellness exams performed just like our domestic pets. For small pets, we generally recommend doing exams biyearly since their life spans tend to be shorter and problems can appear more rapidly in them.

Easter is coming! On a serious note, many rabbits get bought on impulse only to be dumped a few weeks after Easter once the hype of the holiday passes. As cute as baby (and adult) bunnies are, people should remember that rabbits have a life span of 10-15 years, they need a specialized diet, a lot of exercise and of course specialized vet care. If you want a bunny, please consider adopting, we have plenty of reputable rabbit rescues in South Florida, like East Coast Rabbit Rescue or Penny and Wild Smalls of South Florida.
