The shop will be closed from Wednesday May 29th through June 2nd as we will be attending the Association of Indiana Taxidermists show. Hoping to bring back more valuable information to apply and continue to improve our quality of work. We will be back to the grind first of next week!

What an incredible 2024 Indiana turkey season. Another great one in the books and thank you to everyone that has come in over the past few weeks. Had to pump the brakes on mounting in order to keep up with intake but now it’s time to get back to work! 🦃🪶💪🏻

I am still currently running 90 days behind schedule. Im working hard to get caught up but again, I will not sacrifice quality to just push mounts out the door. Please keep in mind that I am only one man and can only accomplish so much in a days time. I appreciate everyone’s patience and we will get through them all.

We’re still skinning but do have some room left if you are looking to get your bird mounted 🦃🪶

Shewwww 🥵 we are caught up on skinning and ready for more 🦃🪶

I want to give a HUGE shoutout to my wife because she’s just a badass! She has been in here with me some late nights this past week and not sure that I could have made it through without her. I simply can’t thank her enough!

I will be doing shop maintenance today and making a tannery trip tomorrow. That being said I plan to be back mounting last years birds on Wednesday. Thank you all for your patience and hope everyone has a great week ahead.

Wishing everyone the best of luck tomorrow for the Indiana turkey season opener! Please keep us in mind for your trophy needs. I plan to hunt myself first thing but will be back to the shop quickly to start taking in harvests. Below are step by step instructions for proper field care of your bird. This is extremely important should you decide to mount it. Even if you don’t mount your bird this time, this should be common practice for you because at some point it is likely you will harvest one that you will want done. Even if you use another taxidermist they will be very happy with how you handled it. Good luck guys & gals, LETS GO 🔥🦃

🦃 STEP BY STEP FIELD CARE 🦃

🪶 Head shots only. Do not make a body shot and do not shoot while he’s in full strut. Wait for him to come out of strut with his head up before squeezing off. Yes I know this is hard sometimes but trust me you can do it.

🪶 Once he is down, get to him quickly. Grab him by the head and ONLY the head. Make sure to not have ahold of neck feathers. Pick him up by the head, hold him away from your body to let him expire. Once expired you can gently lay him back down. Notice I said GENTLY! At this point you need to be treating this bird like it’s the most fragile thing you’ve ever seen.

🪶 Now catch your breath, celebrate and get some cool pictures.

🪶 You need to have the following items in your vest. 4-5 sheets of paper towels, 1 sandwich bag, 1 zip tie or rubber band and 1 trash bag.

🪶 You’re now ready to get him to the truck, but first let’s get him prepped to keep blood and debris off of these beautiful feathers. Take 1 sheet of your paper towel and place inside the mouth. Take the rest and wrap the entire head keeping the neck feathers out. Now take your sandwich bag and place the head inside still keeping the neck feathers out. Take your zip tie or rubber band and seal the bag. Lastly take the trash bag and place the bird in head first. This will keep all the feathers laying in their proper direction and will also keep the wind off of them if he has to ride in the bed of a truck.

🪶 If you are not going straight to a taxidermist you need to freeze the bird just like you bagged him in the field. Freeze him flat with no feathers or feet exposed.

🪶 DO NOT breast out or cut on the bird in any way! I have a very specific way of skinning so if you do this your bird will likely not be salvageable.

🪶 Shipping birds from other states. Call me and I will walk you through this process. The bird will need to be frozen. If you are going out of the country for Oscellated or Goulds turkeys you will need to call me and I will get you setup with my USDA facility. He will treat your birds then send to me.

🪶 Transporting completed mounts. If you show up in a small sedan, a turkey is not going to fit. Best options are full size SUV’s, mini vans, pickup with shell or small trailer.

🚨Weekend schedule / shop update🚨

🪶 Weekend schedule
Youth weekend has arrived and we are excited to see everyone’s success. If there are any questions please call the shop or message me on here. We are hunters too so I will be out with my sons this weekend of a morning. I will be back in the shop for harvest intake from noon and will remain in the shop for the remainder of the day on both days. I will have the phone with me and will answer if I can. Otherwise I will call back asap. I also plan to hunt mornings Wed-Fri of next week but will be in the shop for the entirety of that weekend. Please remember that if you intend to mount your bird that you follow the step by step field care procedures that I have outlined in a previous post. The quality of your mount depends on it. Good luck to all of the young men and women that will be out this weekend. Be safe but most importantly have fun 🦃🪶

🪶Shop update
I am still running about 90 days behind which isn’t bad considering we moved and I’m just a one man show right now. I am roughly halfway through last seasons turkeys right now and am making progress daily. That being said, it will be very difficult for me to keep mounting over the next couple of weeks and take in new projects at the same time. As I have said before, I will not sacrifice quality to just push mounts out the door. Please bare with me and we will get through this. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are extremely grateful to have such wonderful clientele!
