Greencastle Veterinary Hospital is currently looking for a full time, Certified/Licensed Veterinary Technician for our very busy 7 doctor, small and large animal practice! Letter of interest and resume can be sent to [email protected]
Job Duties will include but are not limited to:
Assist our surgeons in preparation and monitoring during surgical procedures.
Assist the veterinarian with routine patient appointments, keeping the patient calm and secure in restraint. Prepare vaccines or injections for appointments.
Collect and process samples for diagnostics and evaluate in the lab.
Prepare appointment rooms prior to scheduled patient visits and treatment rooms for surgery.
Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, serums, or treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
Record patient medical history and medical notes, fill prescriptions, measure medications, and label containers and explain medications and potential side effects to clients.
Take radiographs - help with positioning and transferring to files and emails.
Maintain, sterilize, and store all surgical instruments, equipment, and machinery to ensure proper working condition.
Contribute to proper use and maintenance of all hospital lab equipment and overall cleanliness of the hospital.
Clean animal holding areas, surgery suites, exams rooms and lobby areas to control the spread of disease.
Contribute to a positive and collaborative working environment for all employees.
Communicate with clients in a positive and efficient manner.
Cross training for the front client service area to help with incoming calls, scheduling, invoicing and check ins.
Requirements:
Certification/Licensing is required for this position
Veterinary Background - with knowledge and experience of surgical prep (including IVC placement), drug calculations, monitoring and recovery.
Ability to perform CPR or knowledge of what to do in the event of an emergency.
Knowledge of all drugs used for sedation, contraindications, routes of use and reversals if needed.
Ability to draw blood samples and run for doctors to review.
Properly read and relay results for f***l samples, urine samples, ear samples, skin samples and fungal cultures.
Knowledge of vaccinations and monthly preventatives.
Demonstrate good communication skills & be a team player.
Ability to multitask and keep appointments and surgery schedules moving in an efficient manner.
Ability to lift and restrain larger breeds and fractious feline friends with care.
Ability to squat, step over, bend and kneel on the floor.
