Didn’t get to enroll in our February Group Obedience Course? That’s ok! We’re pushing the start date of the course back to March 3rd, so there’s still time to enroll! Work with your dog to learn sit, down, stay, come, walk on a loose leash, door/gate control, visitor control, food control and composure in public! Students who graduate the course also qualify for the AKC Canine Good Citizenship and get a Refresh Pass to visit any future obedience class as needed!

With the cold temperatures outside we are taking advantage of training inside!! Honestly with board and trains we are always working on manners and behaviors inside! They are a part of the family and we have to teach our pups manners so they can learn to have self control inside the home!

Working with Megan and her service dog Mercy! First we started with a trip to our local laundromat then at Lowe’s. Very proud of them for putting in the hard work each and every day! Mercy goes with Megan into Kroger, Starbucks, doctor appointments,library,post office, and Dunkin’ Donuts just to name a few places. Megan and Mercy are always putting in the work as these pictures show. Amazing job!!

Our next Groundwork Obedience Course starts in a couple weeks! Students will work on basic obedience skills such as walking on a loose leash, come, sit, down and stay, as well as behavioral skills such as food control, door/gate control, visitor control and composure! Students who complete the course will also be eligible to be AKC Canine Good Citizens. Refresh passes are also included, meaning graduates can come back for a refresher class at anytime during future courses!

Yesterday Olivia completed 2 weeks of training with her reactive 4yr old dog Hank! Hank is such a good boy, helping him to view targets, triggers, and the environment more clearly is true gratification! When I went to their home for the consultation as soon as Hank heard me coming through the door he started to lash out with very nasty barking at the gate. I asked Olivia to open the gate and let him out? As soon as she did Hank ran up to me got right in front of me with his gnarly barking displaying his defensive aggression. I stood still in the same spot did not make direct eye contact with him until the barking was not excessive. Then I engaged with Olivia about Hank. As I engaged in conversation with Olivia I threw a couple of high value treats on the floor Hank was not moving or taking his attention off me. Olivia grabbed Hank by his harnesses as I walked out to get the correct training collar for him. When I came in Hank was still very over stimulated but not barking at me. Olivia put his new training collar on him and handed me the leash after about 30 minutes inside we went outside for some training. Totally different dog from the one I had met 45 minutes before! Each dog is different, and with working with a reactivity dog each case is different. With effective training techniques and tools this is an amazing starting point for Olivia to clearly communicate with Hank ! Dogs are so much like humans when they get used to doing something for so long it becomes a routine ,for negative or positive. Hank had been living the last 3yrs of his 4yrs this way trying to figure it out on his own. That’s why the unwanted behavior became stronger over time! That’s all he knew and definitely not a knock on his loving family! So over time Hank will be able to be more comfortable as Olivia slowly introduces him to environments that before she couldn’t or even dreamt of!

Dates are set for the next Groundwork Obedience Course! This group course includes 14 90-minute classes over 5 weeks, and students will learn valuable obedience and behavioral skills that last a lifetime! This is a class for both dogs and their owners, so be prepared to learn along with your dog 🥰

Photo Drop!! Over the last couple of months I might not had the time to post videos or pictures like I would like to! I know that clients love seeing their pups on the page as they should, but with that said I do make sure each client has updated videos and pictures sent directly to them from me through out the training process. Meet Megan and her beautiful pup Mercy! Mercy is in training to be Megan’s service dog! Mercy will be taught several commands throughout her training process and put many different environments to make sure that she can handle the pressures of outside world with responding appropriately for Megan. Mercy and Megan have done phenomenal passing the CGC test and now moving forward to public access testing. I’m so proud of Megan she has definitely put in the work and it shows on our training sessions!
