Kicking off our holiday giving campaign is Dr. Michelle. She has chosen Wisconsin Vest-A-Dog as the recipient of her $100 holiday donation. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to protecting Wisconsin’s hardworking K9 officers by providing life-saving equipment, such as bulletproof and stab-proof vests, heat-sensory units, and first aid kits. These tools are crucial for the safety of the more than 200 canine officers across the state, who put themselves in harm’s way to ensure public safety.
Dr. Michelle feels strongly about supporting these highly trained and specialized dogs who play a vital role in crime prevention and community security. Her contribution helps extend the lives of these dedicated K9s and acknowledges their service and bravery. Every donation to Wisconsin Vest-A-Dog directly supports the purchase of protective equipment, empowering these K9s to perform their duties with reduced risk. https://wivestadog.org

We recently had the pleasure of showing a group of Brownies around the clinic so they could earn their pets badge! Thank you to Dr. Michelle, CSR Andi, and Vet Tech Monika for showing them the ropes! And thank you Brownie Girl Scout Troop 37558 from Canterbury Elementary for being so well behaved and inquisitive! They also were so kind to make some really cute bandanas for our patients as well as some super fun cat treat toys!

"Why shouldn't I just assume that my dog needs his or her a**l sacs manually expressed?"

Did you know that most dogs’ a**l sacs don’t need routine emptying? These small glands naturally express during bowel movements, and in healthy dogs, they usually function without any issues.
Manually expressing a**l sacs too often can lead to irritation or even dependency, so it's not something that should be done unless there's a medical reason. Signs of trouble include scooting, excessive licking, or discomfort around the rear end.
If you notice these signs or have concerns, we’re here to help! Regular veterinary checkups can ensure your pup’s a**l sacs are functioning normally. 🐕💚

Ever wonder why we tell you that’s it’s vital to keep your pets on flea/tick prevention *all year*? Yep, that’s an ENGORGED TICK we just pulled off of a dog THIS MORNING. A dog that lives in the city of Milwaukee(!!) and was *not* up north recently. Remember, ticks don’t just turn off because it’s November. If it’s over 30 degrees, they are active and feeding, and if wood ticks are active, so are disease carrying deer ticks. If you are out of flea/tick prevention, call us today for your refill.

Coco the kitty’s belly started swelling, and she became lethargic. When her family rushed her to the clinic, they soon learned she had a life-threatening condition called pyometra. The condition causes fluid to build up in the uterus, and if it isn’t treated, the fluid causes a deadly rupture. How did Coco fare? Can pyometra be avoided?
