This past weekend was one of those rare gifts — the kind that fills your heart and leaves a quiet ache behind. Pet and farm sitting has always been more than a “side job” for me, but sometimes it becomes something even deeper.
I spent the weekend caring for a new client’s farm — just the kind of place I’ve always dreamed of. A sturdy barn, a couple of horses, some cows, a handful of chickens, and a faithful farm dog. I don’t dream of luxury. My dreams are built on the rhythm of chores, the warmth of animals, and the peace of wide-open skies.
And for a brief moment, I got to live that dream. The smell of well-worn leather tack, the sweetness of grain, that indescribable horse scent only horse lovers know. Morning greeted me with the thunder of hooves, while the rising sun turned dew-soaked grass into gold. Every detail whispered serenity, and I let myself believe, just for a little while, that this could be my every day....someday.
To my clients, it may have simply been hiring someone to care for their animals. But to me, it was a gift — a weekend of peace, gratitude, and quiet joy. A memory I’ll hold close, a reminder of why I love this work so deeply.
Because this isn’t just a service. It’s my heart. It’s knowing your animals are safe, cared for, and loved as if they were my own.
Thank you to every client who opens your gates and trusts me — your trust means more than you know.
