Can you believe Christmas is already creeping up on us? I swear, I was just enjoying summer, and now it’s time to start thinking about holiday gifts again! If you’re anything like me, finding that perfect, meaningful gift is always on the top of the list.

So, I’ve been working on some custom dog ornaments—because, let's be real, our pups are part of the family, right? 🐾❤️ I’ve got designs for all kinds of breeds, and you can add your dog’s name or even your family name. The ornament can be personalized to make it extra special.

It’s a sweet little way to honor the furry friends who bring us so much joy (and maybe some muddy paw prints too, let’s be honest). If you’re thinking about adding a personal touch to your tree this year, I’d love to help you out. Just reach out when you’re ready to start planning—it’ll be like a mini celebration of our beloved pups!

Today was an adventure in our kitchen! My husband and I rolled up our sleeves and tried our hand at making homemade dog food for the first time. We've still got some fine-tuning to do and want to explore a few different flavor options, but we're feeling pretty excited about what we whipped up. It's all part of our mission to get our pups off processed store-bought food and onto something that’s high-quality, wholesome, and cost-effective.

We learned so much in the process, and it’s got us curious—what kind of food do you feed your dogs? Do you make it yourself, or do you have a go-to brand you trust? Let’s swap stories and tips; I’d love to hear what’s in your dog’s bowl!

Where Automation Meets Genuine Care

In today's world, automation has become a game-changer for managing daily flock care. Automated doors and feeders offer convenience and efficiency, ensuring your animals are well-cared for even when you're not around. However, while these systems are incredibly useful, they aren't foolproof. System failures can happen, and if they do, are you prepared?

Recently, one of our clients experienced this firsthand. Their automated door malfunctioned, putting their flock at risk. Thankfully, as their sitter, I was there to quickly identify and address the problem. I immediately alerted the owners, and together, we devised a plan to ensure their flock remained safe for the rest of their trip. The animals were unharmed, but without regular checks, this story could have ended very differently.

This incident underscores the importance of having a reliable pet and farm sitter. While automation can handle many tasks, it can't replace the assurance and quick response that comes from a dedicated caretaker. At Home and Herd Animal Care Services, I am here to provide that essential human oversight, ensuring your animals receive the best care possible.

I just want to say thank you to my clients for trusting me with your beloved pets and livestock. Your peace of mind is my top priority and I truly do care for your animals as my own.

Hey everyone!

As temperatures soar, keeping our furry friends cool is crucial. One great way to help them beat the heat is with homemade frozen lick mats. Here’s a dog-safe recipe you can try:

Frozen Peanut Butter & Banana Lick Mats

Ingredients:

1 ripe banana
1 cup plain yogurt (make sure it does not contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs)
2 tablespoons peanut butter (make sure it does not contain xylitol)
Optional: a few blueberries or strawberries

Instructions:

Mash the ripe banana in a bowl until smooth.
Add plain yogurt and peanut butter to the mashed banana. Mix well until everything is thoroughly combined.
If desired, mash a few blueberries or strawberries and mix them into the yogurt mixture.
Spoon the mixture onto a lick mat or into ice cube trays.
Place in the freezer and freeze until solid (usually takes a few hours).
How to Use:
Once frozen, remove the lick mat or pop out the frozen cubes from the ice cube tray and give them to your dog to enjoy. The cool treat will help them stay refreshed during hot days!

I've also included a link to a recommended lick mat for your convenience.

Wow, this heat is intense! 🌞 Just a friendly reminder to be extra careful when walking your dogs on these hot days. Asphalt and concrete can get scorching hot and can seriously hurt their paws.

A good rule of thumb: if you can’t hold the back of your hand on the pavement for seven seconds, it’s too hot for your pup’s paws. Opt for early morning or late evening walks when it’s cooler, or stick to grassy areas.

Stay cool and keep those paws safe!

🚨 Record High Heat Alert This Week! 🚨

As many of you know I also offer farm sitting and with temperatures soaring, it's vital to ensure your livestock remain safe and healthy. Here's a crucial guide on recognizing and managing heat stress in your animals:

High temperatures and humidity can cause serious issues for livestock, such as:
Decreased feed intake
Increased susceptibility to diseases
Production declines
Risk of heat stroke and even death

Signs to Watch For:
Heavy panting or trouble breathing
Lack of coordination
Confusion or unusual behavior
Weakness and collapse
Tremors
Drinking excessive amounts of water
Foaming at the mouth
Excessive drooling

Heat Stress Management Tips:
Provide well-ventilated pens; install fans if needed
Keep animals in shaded areas
Ensure constant access to cool, clean water
Mist their environment to cool it down
Use cool water to splash on animals or wrap them in wet towels

Contact your vet immediately if an animal becomes unresponsive or symptoms worsen

Let’s keep our livestock safe during this heatwave! 🌞🐄🐑🐖

🚨🌞 Heat Warning This Week! 🌞🚨

We're expecting record high temperatures, and it's crucial to keep your pets safe! Check out this essential infographic with vital safety information for pet owners during high heat:

🚗 Don't Leave Your Pet in the Car!

Even with the windows cracked, a car can quickly overheat.
On an 85° day, it only takes 10 minutes for the inside of your car to reach 102°!
Within 30 minutes, the car's interior can climb from 85° to a scorching 120°.
🐶 Pets at Higher Risk:

Young, overweight, or elderly animals.
Pets with short muzzles or thick, dark-colored coats.
🌳 Shady Spots Offer Little Protection:

Shady spots move with the sun and provide little relief.
🛡️ Legal Reminder:

Many areas have laws against leaving animals in cars under dangerous conditions. Protect your pets and avoid legal issues!
📞 If You See an Animal in a Car on a Hot Day:

Try to locate the owner or call 911.
Stay by the car until assistance arrives.
Stay informed and keep your furry friends safe! 💖🐾

Ever had a run-in with a skunk? 😳 It's not fun, but we've got a recipe that really works to get rid of that skunk smell from your furry friends!

Skip the tomato juice and lemon sprays – they don't do the trick. Instead, mix together:

1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup of baking soda
1 teaspoon of liquid soap or dish detergent
Bathe your pet with this mixture right after you make it (it’s unstable, so use it immediately). Let it sit for 5 minutes, rinse thoroughly with tap water, and repeat if needed. If any gets in their eyes, flush with water ASAP.

Your pet will be odor-free in no time! 🌸✨

Feel free to share your skunk stories or any other pet tips in the comments below! 🐶🐱

Stay fresh and smell-free!

🌞 The weather is finally nice, and everyone is out enjoying walks with their pets! As you take your furry friends out to enjoy the sunshine, it's important to be wise about the products you use.

🚫 One common product we urge caution with is retractable leashes. While they might seem convenient, they can pose several safety concerns:

Injuries: The thin cord can cause burns, cuts, or even more serious injuries if it wraps around you or your pet.
Limited Control: The long length can make it harder to control your pet, increasing the risk of accidents, especially in busy areas.
Entanglement: Your pet can easily get tangled up with other dogs, objects, or people, leading to potentially dangerous situations.
Breakage: Large dogs can break retractable leashes, potentially becoming free and putting themselves and others at risk.
At Home and Herd Animal Care Services, we prioritize the safety and well-being of your pets. That's why we use only safe, high-quality products when caring for our clients' beloved animals.

✅ Here are some safe alternatives to consider:

Standard Leashes: A 4 to 6-foot leash made of sturdy material like nylon or leather provides better control and reduces the risk of injury.
Harnesses: Using a harness instead of a collar can distribute pressure more evenly and prevent neck injuries, especially for small breeds and dogs that pull.
We care deeply about your pets and want to ensure every walk is a safe and enjoyable experience. Please share this information with other pet owners so we can all keep our furry friends safe and happy!

🐾 Stay safe and happy walking!

This is peak pet sitting.

I make sure to spend quality time with all of the pets a visit. I have known Arthur and his brother Winston since they were teeny tiny little babies. Because of this they are incredibly relaxed when I come to visit.

This is the absolute best outcome when you are away. Your pet is in their home, safe, happy and with someone they are comfortable with. I develop a relationship with all my clients and their pets and I am truly proud of the work I have done.

The last thing any pet owner wants is to stress about their pets while they are away but drop in sitting gives you the peace of mind you need. You get updates each visit or each day (your preference), pictures, and any important notes that I notice.

I want your trip to go well and your pets to have the best time possible while your away. ♡

When you can't shake the feeling like your being watched.....and then you look up and see this.

Lol Rex you silly girl, you scared the crap out of me and then gave me one heck of a laugh. This gave me flashbacks to when I worked with big cats and played the game "stalk the keeper". The cougar Maryann would watch me walk to her enclosure from across the park. She would hide and then as I was walking past with my back to her she would pounce in my direction. She was always a fun girl to work with.

I'll take care of your cats like they are my own, even when they are secretly planning my demise 😂.

Rex on the left, cougar I worked with stalking me on the right. Good times, good times.

I am now able to offer memorial pieces for order!

I know for me, my pets are family and as such when they pass on they still hold a very special place in my heart and in my home. Each of my pets have a memorial and now I am happy to say I can make these treasured pieces myself.

I can customize wooden urns, stone, framed work and so much more. I hope I can bring some comfort in a time when nothing can make their passing easier. ♡

Please reach out if you have a memorial item that you have in mind. I am happy to help in any way I can.

Today was an eventful day dog walking! I was walking Copper and Flint when all of a sudden they double back to smell something. This isn't super unusual as they love to sniff everything on our walks. But this time they found a squirrel!

At first I thought the little guy had passed but then I saw him move and noticed he was breathing!!!! I finished the walk with the boys and thankfully their dad had a spare box for me to use to come back for the squirrel.

I came back to him and he was still out of it a bit. It looks like he had been hit by a car but let me tell you this little guy had fight in him (which is good). He scampered away from me for a bit (even up a tree at one point) but eventually his injuries got the better of him and he came back out of the tree and I was able to catch him!

Wilderness Miracles Wildlife Rehab and Misfits Rehab to the rescue! The little boy is now in their very capable hands and is resting. Fingers crossed he makes a full recovery as he is one heck of a little fighter!

Animals will always be my passion ♡.

How about a little bit of chow time ASMR? Ahhh music to my ears, the sound of hungry tummies being filled while maintaining complete order. (I mean you've heard of something being chaotic like herding cats right? 😆)

These guys have their routine down pat! Another successful booking where everyone was safe, happy, healthy and loved.

I am accepting clients and am happy to schedule a meet and greet with you to see how I could help you and your pets!
