Christmas came early for this Content Equestrian! It was such an incredible surprise to win the boot giveaway at this past weekend. I always try to shop at Cheshire Horse for everyday supplies because I want to support local business and when I need things quickly, they are always there for me and my horses -
Thank you so very much! And thanks to Stride boot wear and their awesome Rep for offering the giveaway! These boots are exquisite and so incredibly comfortable. If you hear that I cooked Christmas dinner in them, it’s for sure because I don’t want to take these beauties off 😁

If you’re looking for a new horse this winter, be sure to reach out to me at my day job! [email protected]
We have a nice selection of project horses who would love to have their own person!
Shoot me an email and I’ll be happy to discuss our adoptable horses and talk you through the adoption process.

Exciting news! We are thrilled to announce the launch of our rehoming program! Although we are a sanctuary to our core, our main priority is always to give our horses the best life possible. While most members of our sanctuary herd love to work in our therapy programs, we occasionally find that some are wanting a more active life. These horses are riding sound and have much to offer their new owner. For this reason, we are pleased to announce our new rehoming program for the rideable horses here at the farm. To view our current rehoming herd, head to this link https://thsaratoga.org/adopt-a-horse/ and for more information contact Kate at [email protected].

This one was special.
Many of us have a horse that made a big impact in our lives. King Tut made that difference to so many people in our community. He was kind, stoic, gentle and so incredibly lovable. Lucky us, to have been part of his world. I feel grateful to have gotten to know him. It is a hard thing to say goodbye, but we are all the better for having loved him.

After trying several Digestive support supplements over the years, I’ve definitely seen the most positive results from Grand Meadows Post biotic. Let me know if you’d like more information or a discount code!

We had just a wonderful day yesterday at . Huge thanks to them for putting on a really great schooling horse trials. It was such a valuable opportunity for us to get some positive miles under our belt.
Congratulations to both Megan and Katie! Megan placed first with Ellie, and Katie placed sixth with Lumos in Beginner Novice!
Tink and I had a terrific schooling experience and despite an elimination at the water, we still managed to get through it with the help of a friend (thanks for the lead Megan!).

This may be one of my favorite pictures of us to date. Partly because we both look so happy, partly because it is a terrific memento from a fabulous day with instruction from , and largely because this picture represents a milestone in my journey with Tink. I love every minute I get to do this! Thanks for the great shot!

Dusting off some cobwebs today at Graphite Hill Farm
plenty of work to do before the season gets really going but it's great to see where we're up to after a very casual winter. Thanks to graphite Hill Farm for welcoming us to their lovely facility and thanks Sascha LaRosa for being adventure buddy today!

Today was a good day - not at all to plan but still a good day. We originally intended to go jump around an arena derby but the weather was too wet for the event to go ahead. So instead, we went to a local cdhjc show to jump around a 2 ft course. I don’t thrive in the hunter ring and by default, neither do my horses 😂 but we had prepped to go and jump today so it made sense to go ahead and gain some miles at a new venue to us and to get out for the first time this year. It was such a great experience for Tink. The videos show a very scattered, inverted round that I could easily feel self conscious about - but I won’t. This horse has had very little work this winter and has only been consistently in a program for a month or two. She has only worked in her field, that is not flat and has varied footing from ride to ride. Hunter tack requirements mean we didn’t use our usual equipment. Tink hasn’t been in an indoor arena in a year. She’s not been in a trailer on her own much either. But this lovely girl held it together, stood in the waiting area (with minimal fidgeting), she warmed up like a sensible citizen with many other horses and she didn’t blink at a single jump. At 9.30am I pulled her out of the field and by 10.15 we were tacked up and standing at a show.
So while my rounds weren’t pretty, we gained miles - positive miles. Each of us has a journey with our horses. The tiny positive steps count for so much and your achievements will be different than your competitors. Thanks to my friends and colleagues at Skidmore for creating a warm environment to take a new step in our journey. Thanks cdhjc for providing great local opportunities. And massive thanks to for always having my back !

Megan has been keeping Ellie on a schedule of varied activity and exercise this winter, with a goal of keeping things lighthearted and fun. During this time they’ve been working on bridle-less work on the flat. Today, we really put their partnership through some paces and boy are they a terrific team!
Megan jumped Ellie around patterns of jumps and they were so in tune, it was delightful to watch. There was balance, adjustability, rhythm and easy transitions throughout.
What we really found interesting, is how Ellie used her whole body and neck over the jumps and how Megan stayed quietly centered. We will carefully watch these videos and create a strategy to try and afford ellie this range of motion and freedom, while maintaining contact, with a bridle too!
These amazing animals will keep teaching us how to be better, if we can only notice what they show us! Great job you two!

It’s National day of the horse! Such gratitude for the lessons, the love and magical moments shared with these incredible creatures! For me, every day is the day of the horse and I would be lost without them 😍 here are just a few of the hundreds of memories captured.

Our last hunter pace of the season was so much fun!!!
Tink behaved like the rockstar she is and showed major growth between this year’s pace and last year’s. It’s awesome to feel the confidence and enthusiasm she has for the jumps - we definitely stepped up the height this time too!
Thanks to Megan and Ellie for their fantastic company once again 🐎💥
Huge thanks to Carlette Farm for hosting this excellent event!
And equally huge thanks to connecticutphoto.com - connecticutphotodrone for capturing the fun of the day!

This weekend at the Rombout Foxhounds Hunter pace was special for several reasons and we had the most amazing day.
The course was incredible and so was the weather. I couldn’t be prouder of Tink for jumping around with a guest rider (well done Katie!).
Great job Megan for being a terrific team mate! (As always!)
And much love to my dear (complicated) Callie -
You are still an absolute blast to leap over things with ❤️
Side note - purple may be our new vibe 😁

This year Ella and Ranger made a switch to Jumpers.
They’ve been working really hard to make a couple of little stylistic adjustments all summer. This week, they found a really good rhythm and everything started to click! I’m so proud of Ella’s dedication and of them both becoming such a solid team together. With a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th and a reserve champion placing, they went home feeling the rewards of their hard work. But most importantly, they had an incredible few rounds that were super fun - and that is what makes me happy for them both ❤️

As an equestrian, this incredible lady has always been such a powerful role model throughout my lifetime of loving horses. To know that she had such passion and commitment and drive to stay thoroughly connected, invested and committed to her horses was such a delight. To see her riding and enjoying her mounts throughout her life, has been such an inspiration - I will always want to ‘ride as long as the Queen did’.

As a British Citizen, Queen Elizabeth ll has been a constant steadying presence. She has always been at the helm during my life and for almost all of my parents’ too. Watching her address the nation each year at Christmas had a greater impact than I realized when I was young. Hearing her reassuring words during Covid, did more to instill calm and focus than either the UK prime minister or US president - at least for me. No matter your view on the monarchy, Queen Elizabeth ll embodied strength, compassion, dedication and served her country with absolute responsibility to her role. Thank you for the outstanding commitment you filled throughout your life and for being such a truly important figure to so many. Today is a sad day.

Such a fun session!

Ellie and Megan are always game to push themselves and I can count on a smile as they take on new challenges! Beautifully done ❤️

This week I made myself a mini goal - to ‘Pony’ each of my horses from the other (ride and lead).

For a variety of reasons, I’ve not needed to do this with my horses but I think it’s a really useful skill to give them as we continue to grow solid horse citizens. Simply put, the more they can handle, the better, and you never know when you’ll benefit from them practicing this activity.

The reasons I think we had success are:
~ I know both horses well.
~ Callie and Tink get along pretty well as pasture mates.
~ They trust me.
~ They know me as their leader/teacher.
~ They know my voice and commands.
~ They lead together politely from the ground.
~ They both raced so likely were ponied during their training.
~ We were in a familiar setting.

I love achieving mini goals and adding layers to my horses’ tool box, BUT never underestimate the power of setting them up for success. We had a positive experience with each being ridden and each being led, yet a lot could have gone wrong. We will continue to practice this so that the horses get used to it being the ‘norm’.

So, set yourself (and your horse) mini goals, but try to think about the preparation you can do beforehand.
It will certainly help ensure a positive experience.

For us, we had a blast hacking around the big field together and enjoying the wildlife ❤️ I’m sure Callie and Tink enjoyed each other’s company - I know I did 😁

We headed to Horse Amour for their second horse trials of the season and had an excellent time building positive experiences with our horse partners. Thank you again to Horse Amour for hosting a terrific schooling event.

Congratulations to Megan and Ellie for their personal best dressage score!

Well done Katie Tuffey and her cool dude Lu for their first horse trials together - and for taking home a 3rd place to boot!

clears, which landed us a 2nd place!

Another spectacular show day in the books!
This week, Ella on Ranger, and Charline on Tina, took to the jumper ring at White Hollow for the CDHJC schooling show.
Aside from dropping the odd pesky rail, Ella and Ranger danced around their first ever jumper classes, displaying excellent turns and teamwork!
Charline and Tina laid it all on the table, quite literally flying into a first place and two second places!!!

Thanks to CDHJC for organizing local, affordable shows that allow us to enjoy riding at terrific venues i our area.

There were many firsts in our group today. Four of us headed to Horse Amour today for their first schooling horse trials of the season. Big thanks to Horse Amour for hosting a great event.
Caroline and teaspoon, Ella and ranger took part in their first 2 1/2 phase - adding a shortened cross country course to dressage and stadium - gave them a taster for the eventing discipline. They walked away with big smiles, a hunger for more and a 1st and 3rd place respectively.
charline and Tina whizzed and whirled around the Puddle Jumpers to scoop up second place. While Tink and I were thrilled to improve our dressage scores, complete the cross country course,
and finish 5th at Tink’s first horse trials in the Puddle jumper division.
Sorry not sorry for a long video 😁 it’s fun to capture memories from the day and put them together for us to enjoy for years to come.
Hopefully, others enjoy watching snippets from our day too!

It was an absolute scorcher today, but Megan and Ellie weren’t slowed down by the heat at their first recognized event at Larkin Hill Horse Trials. They had an incredible dressage test, followed by an outstanding clear round in stadium jumping.
With a little hesitation at the water, this pair returned home from the cross country course smiling, satisfied and safe!
Eventing had been a goal (or dare I say, dream) of Megan’s for some time. To see them enjoying this adventure together is such a treat! Well ridden Megan! And well done Ellie!
Thanks to Megan’s media squad for getting snippets of her ride for us to thread together in this video

We had a fun day out today at the ENYDCTA schooling show. Caroline and Teaspoon put in a solid performance to earn second place in the Tadpole Combined test division. Such a great result for their first ever show together!

Katie and Lumos scooped up a well deserved third place in the Elementary Combined test division. They are really coming together as a team and had a fabulous time in the jump ring!
Well done Caroline and Katie!

Tink came sixth in the Elementary Combined test division. We have plenty of room to improve in the dressage ring and look forward to working on our connection in new places. We both had a blast and I was very proud of how well she behaved throughout the day.
I can not thank Tatiana Hart enough for being literally the best groom and support that I have ever had!

Huge thanks to Trilogy Equestrian Center, LLC for hosting and to ENYDCTA for running a smooth and supportive event.

A really great part of my job as a trainer and instructor is when I experience the fruits of my student’s hard work. Skylar and Tatiana were one of the first horse/rider partnerships I worked with when I started my business. When we first started working together, Skylar was only 3 years old, growing and learning how to be a riding horse after racing a few times.
I rode this lovely mare several times throughout the first year, but it’s been at least 8 months since I was last aboard.
Now at 5 years old, Skylar rides like a grown up who is balanced, responsive, supple and light. While she has plenty to learn, I am so proud of Tatiana and her beautiful mare. They have worked incredibly hard and seeing how much progress they have made is simply brilliant! Well done!

We were never going to win ribbons today - We are simply not there yet. We came to see how Tink would handle a show environment for the first time and to dip our toes into the dressage ring. This beautiful girl behaved impeccably and I could not be happier with how the day went.

Huge thanks to Megan Watkins and Maddie Hogan for their excellent grooming support and photography skills!

Well done Ella, Tatiana and Katie - You all did great and I think it’s fair to say that we had a terrific time!

Thank you Stockade polo and saddle club for always being supportive, friendly, kind and organized.

⭐Lucinda's Words of Wisdom⭐

'Putting your horse in the tube' is a feeling of cuddling your horse's sides with both your legs.

Have the feeling that his eyeballs are attached, each one to each of your calves and you use those calves to direct/focus him as you keep him in the tube (the cuddle).

The cuddle should not be hard work - you can ride in it all day. That is not to say that there are not moments when the cuddle speedily metamorphoses into a serious squeeze or a good old Pony Club kick or three.
