Pet safety and info for July 4th

Did you know that statistics show that more dogs are lost over the 4th of July holiday than any other time of the year? Dogs who fear loud sounds, especially those with a phobia of thunderstorms should stay indoors. Try to create a calm environment by making sure they stay indoors and in an enclosed room, if possible. If you allow your dog outside, be sure that your gates or fence are secure or that your pet stays on a leash.

From personal experience, I have found that a product called 'Sileo' (https://www.zoetisus.com/content/_assets/docs/Petcare/Started-with-SILEO-One-pager.pdf) , (click the link for more info) which is used in dogs to reduce acute anxiety and fear associated with noise, is very effective. It is a veterinary medicine that contains dexmedetomidine hydrochloride and is available as a gel applied to the lining of the mouth. Sileo requires a prescription and if you can get it from Chewy, they will contact your vet to approve the medication.

Off-Leash Skills and Parks classes added!

Get more enjoyment and less stress from your dog, whether or not you desire to take your dog off-leash or not, our off-leash skills classes will teach you how NOT to depend on your leash for more focus and good behavior!

And of course our Parks and Outings Series is back for the summer!
Our CGC (Canine Good Citizen) classes teach all the basics of good social behavior, properly greeting humans and other dogs in a calm and relaxed manner. It is the basis of therapy and service dog training as well.

In person class: This 2 hour First Aid and CPR course is designed to give the pet lover, dog sport enthusiast or pet professional the necessary information and skills to stabilize an injured animal until qualified veterinarian care is accessed. Whether you are new to dog ownership or a long time friend, EMS provider, have a puppy, or care for a senior dog, own a purebred or a mixed breed from the shelter; regardless of your situation, your dog is precious to you. You only want the best for your dog, just like you want the best for every member of your family.
