Unveiling the art of muzzle conditioning: Safety, comfort, and building trust. 🐾Muzzle conditioning is not always rainbows and butterflies for every dog but it is so important because it allows our dogs to build trust in us having the control. When a dogs loses its ability to bite out of fear, aggression, or even reaction, they lose their sense of control in the situation. Naturally a dog is not going to understand how else to respond, so it is our job to help them know that we got their back and they can allow us to handle the situation. 🤝We should help the dog become comfortable with wearing a muzzle before adding outside distractions such as working around other dogs, new people, taking them to their veterinarian and more. To build this understanding with the muzzle we must first practice in their home environment, an environment that they’re already familiar with and confident in. This way when we are introducing a dog to a muzzle, we can move in a slow, step-by-step process and we eliminate any unnecessary stress.
