Why does my dog chew things up/ dig through the trashcan/ bolt out of the house/ etc.?

Sometimes it’s a training and “respect” issue, but if your dog is otherwise well trained and these actions have appeared out of “nowhere” it could absolutely simply be boredom, ESPECIALLY if you have a working breed dog.
Often times, our dogs are left for 9+ hours while we work our 8 hour shifts. After an 8 hour workday, who the heck feels like running and playing with their pets?
Having someone you can count on to not only give your dog a potty break, but also walk, run, and play with them can definitely help combat unwanted behaviors.
Lucky for you, Trail Waggers offers 30 minute and 60 minute services for plenty of time to get out that energy! AND, if you have a particularly energetic dog, I even offer extended services at a discounted rate!

Greensboro 💛

You have been so kind to me in my time starting my business and completing my first year (and more) of work here. You gave me the confidence that I can run my business working with your pets, be proud of what I do, and know that I have people and pets who support me and see the love and effort I put in.

I did not expect a single gift during this last week of work, and you guys absolutely blew me away with the love and support you have for not only me, but my future and what’s to come 💛

The tears have started, and I’m sure they won’t stop any time soon 🥹

Yesterday with Stark, Maizey, and Emma 🐾

Long post, I apologize. I’ve contemplated whether or not I wanted to speak up on this topic. I’ve decided as a pet care professional, it’s part of my job to make owners aware of things that are good, and things that are not good for their pets.

Let this be your trigger warning, I mention some awful things that have happened to pets in the care of unprofessional pet sitters.

Rover has become an extremely popular platform for both hobby sitters, and pet owners. I started on Rover, myself, and found many of you there! I had been back and forth on whether or not I wanted to open up my Rover profile again as another avenue of pet sitting income. Rover is not owned by pet care professionals, but by marketing and tech professionals who don’t know anything about the care for pets, regardless of how they try to word their ads to sound like they know what they’re doing. Rover does not employ pet sitters. It is simply a social media platform for “independent contractors” to advertise their hobby (not everyone is a hobbyist, but the majority are) for a small income. Their background check for sitters is not required, and they have raised their prices for sitters to get one, to simply make a profit off a background check while they have another company do them. IF they even have the company do them. There have been many sitters, including myself, who paid for a background check only to find out they never happened.

For these reasons, many hobby sitters get way in over their heads and perform services without meet and greets, without insurance, without first aid knowledge, and without any experience, assuming Rover will help them if something happens (FYI, the Rover Guarantee is just that they’ll find another sitter for the pet owner if there’s a cancellation, and they MIGHT cover SOME vet fees in an emergency). Here are some examples:

3 dogs pass away in care of Rover sitter. Rover does not ensure that your sitter (who is not an employee, but a contractor) is USDA certified and in compliance with local pet boarding regulations: www.abc7chicago.com/post/houston-three-dogs-dead-heatstroke-rover-pet-sitter-timbergrove/15019654/

Blind dog falls down two stories balcony in the care of a Rover sitter. Owner was not informed at the time of it happening: https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/pet-owner-blames-death-of-her-dog-on-rover-app/

Dog was $h0t by their Rover sitter: https://abc7ny.com/post/owners-devastated-after-pitbull-dog-shot-killed-pet-sitters/15232643/

I have easily decided I do not want to be a part of the Rover community as another source of income, because I do not want this company to be making a profit off of my business, and I urge you to do the same. Yes, Rover is affordable- but at what cost? Please take the extra time and maybe spend a couple extra dollars per hour to hire a professional. Talk to them, find out their credentials, what sets them apart from other sitters.

Don’t forget to make sure your cats are taken care of while you’re away!
While it may be easy to think that cats can be left alone for a few days, having someone to check on them daily is important! Anything can happen- power outages, upset tummies, pipe leaks, etc. are just a couple of reasons I recommend daily visits for our feline friends. Contact me today to book your services before 9/21/24 🐾

Last month, all of my current waggers received a very important notice that was exciting, sad, and great all at the same time.

My last day working in Greensboro will be Saturday, September 21, as I get ready to move cross country with my fiancé. Greensboro, you have built my business. Trail Waggers started in Greensboro, NC and I could only hope a piece of Trail Waggers remains in your pets and in you all! I thank each and every one of you for trusting me to care for your pets and make Trail Waggers what it is today, a year later.

I will be moving to Port Orchard, Washington and Trail Waggers, of course, is coming with 🐶 Stick around for more details to come for virtual meet and greets and booking details (I have big plans in store!)

In the meantime, business will be running as usual in NC until 9/21 so do not hesitate to book your pets before then!

What safety precautions does Trail Waggers take while spending time with your pets?

🐾 All dogs are double leashed on walks to ensure any escape artists are secure and can’t slip out of their collar/harness

🐾 All cats and small critters are kept indoors, safe from hawks, cars, and strangers

🐾 Multi-pet play is always watched closely and carefully. No animals are outside unsupervised

🐾 If your pet gets crated while home alone, all collars and chew toys are removed to prevent choking hazards
