UAH Policies (Effective January 1, 2022)
* We now ask that if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, to please do so within 24 hours.
* Appointments that are 15 minutes late or more will be treated as a walk-in appointment. If you are going to be 15 minutes late or more you may also opt to drop off your pet.
* Bringing an additional pet to an appointment time that is only scheduled for one pet may be asked to reschedule for another date or may be seen that day as a drop off or treated as a walk-in. This decision will be made at the doctor on call’s discretion.
* If you have no-called, no-showed more than twice, we will require a non-refundable deposit when scheduling future appointments. With the higher demand for animal care, this also means we have had to work in various medical emergencies. When we work in these patients, unfortunately we may have to reschedule some appointments that are already on our schedule. We will now compensate clients with a 10% discount if their appointment time must be moved to accommodate these emergencies. We have had such a large influx of new patients and are so excited to meet so many new people and pets! With this we have also been working to keep up with higher demand and we would like to be as transparent as possible with you. We hope that these new policies will improve everyone’s experience. Whether you are new client or a seasoned client, our goal is to make everyone’s experience with us as pleasant as possible with a focus on giving our patients the highest quality of care.

There are many different levels of fear, anxiety, and stress that your pet may experience at the veterinary clinic. Some pets may show more signs than others, and with each new sign, the animal is pushed into a different level.

🐾The Fear Free Initiative has been extremely helpful in educating veterinary professionals as well as pet owners on the different levels of fear, anxiety, and stress. Fear Free uses a scale where the animal can have high levels (Levels 4-5) of fear, stress, and anxiety as well as lower levels (Levels 0-1).

In dogs 🐶 , higher levels of stress can include aggression, ears back and tail tucked between their legs, actively trying to escape, excessive panting, trembling, increased respiratory rate, and immobility.

When cats 🐱 are experiencing a high level of stress, they can exhibit aggression, hissing, actively trying to escape, ears back, tail tight or tucked, and immobility.

‼️BIRD FLU IN CATS UPDATE‼️

There is still so much we are learning about how cats are contracting Bird Flu- we are very concerned about the spread and how cats are dying after contracting the virus.
We want our clients to be cautious if you are allowing your cat to roam outside. It might be good to restrict outside access until we know more about the virus and what we can do to protect cats.
‼️Do not feed your cat raw poultry or unpasteurized milk.

We have not had any known/reported cases in the Greensboro/ Triad area yet, but there are new reports of cats being infected in new parts of the country as this virus continues to spread.

A cat in Hunterdon County, N.J., was euthanized after contracting avian flu, and other cats on the property are sick. The cat did not have known exposures to infected poultry or livestock, raw meat or unpasteurized milk, but it was allowed outdoors https://6abc.com/post/cat-euthanized-hunterdon-county-new-jersey-becoming-sick-bird-flu/15964678/

Internal Parasites & Pet Parasite Prevention:

Our animal hospital can assist with internal parasites in addition to external parasites. Internal parasites include roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms, and whipworms.

These parasites get into a pet’s intestinal tract and cause discomfort. Not only that, but they will steal away vital nutrients which can affect their growth and development. Internal parasites can become life-threatening as they can shut down major body systems.

Common signs of internal parasites include diarrhea, abdominal pain, weight loss, vomiting, lethargy, blood in stool, pot-bellied appearance, and more.

Both internal and external parasites are avoidable by practicing good hygiene and administering monthly preventive medication.

Other ways to prevent parasites include:
🐾Schedule regular grooming
🐾Check for fleas/ticks
🐾Clean up f***s (eggs/larvae might be hiding in them)
🐾Avoid raw food diets
🐾Routine pet wellness exams
🐾Topical medicine or monthly ingestible preventatives

Bloodwork isn't just for sick pets.

There are many reasons we recommend annual bloodwork for your pets.
One of the most important reasons is it provides a good baseline that we use as a comparison to future testing.
This allows us to catch any trends that may be concerning. Your pet also ages a lot faster than we do, typically 4 years to every 1 human year. A lot can change in that time.

Routine pet blood work can help veterinary professionals diagnose conditions such as parasites, allergies, diabetes, liver disease, kidney failure, pancreatic issues, and more. Catching issues early on can help reverse, cure, or slow down different conditions

We understand bloodwork can be costly, but if we're able to catch certain disease BEFORE they cause major problems, it may not only save you money in the long run, but extend your pet's life.

Important information regarding Bird Flu and the impact it could have on your pets.

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), also known as bird flu, is circulating now in the United States and much of the world. Specialists at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine have created a virtual resource center where you can find up to date information about HPAI.

It is important to understand how we can reduce our risk of exposure, to protect our own health as well as that of our pets. Reducing exposure will also help slow the virus from evolving into something that is more easily transmissible.

Use the links below to learn how HPAI affects different species (cats, dogs, wildlife, poultry, & dairy) or might affect your health. They contain both general information as well as resources for veterinarians and public health professionals.

The easiest way to prevent rabies is to vaccinate your pet!

Rabies vaccines are required by law in North Carolina and any unvaccinated pet (or even one that is overdue) may be treated as a possible rabies case if it bites anyone or comes in contact with a wild animal. Don’t put your pet or yourself at risk.
