We always enjoying sharing this video from 2019 that the American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association put together to tell the story of WGC CH Our Charming Lady (BHF) and Mary Jane Marcum Orr. Grace laid the path for High Caliber Stables and Mary and Evan Orr to become the place they are today.

High Caliber as a hidden treasure in Meredith Ross and her skill for pairing up the correct academy/lesson horses with the right people! Take Knollwood Farm -they purchased High Caliber Alum Callaway's Never Wanted More (aka Sporty or Sport) and love him dearly!

From Knollwood's page: "Known and loved as 'Sport,' this grand gelding teaches Knollwood academy kids the ways of the ring on a horse who's always looking for his next punchline. He loves taffy, popsicles, going to horse shows, and blowing bubbles in his water bucket. Here's to many more years with this great teacher! "

Meredith has a knack for knowing which horses High Caliber has that will thrive in different types of riding programs, allowing for many more horses to fill important jobs! Thank you, Meredith for helping so many find their place!

Prior to having the front addition onto the main barn, we had the "back lounge", now called the "Popsicle Room". This photo is from the 2012 High Caliber "Cram Weekend" that took place before leaving for the World's Championship Horse Show! Where are these kids now? Comment below if you know (or THINK) you know what they are up to!! From left to right: Laura Plant, Allie Poovey, Marjorie Townsend , McGee Bosworth, Emma Sanchez and Abigail Tabor. We sure are proud to have been part of their journeys to becoming amazing adults!

We have some outstanding volunteer working students that give many hours of their free time to helping out in the back with the lesson horses and keeping lessons on time. This week, we asked Susannah Markey what are some of her favorite parts about helping at High Caliber:

1. What is your favorite part about helping at the barn?
My favorite part about helping at the barn is working with all the horses and getting to meet new people.

2. What have you learned since you have started helping at the barn?
I have learned that you are going to have good days and bad days, but no matter the day you are having, you can always make it better by loving horses and riding them. It feels good to take care of something other than yourself.

3. What are your favorite things about helping out at the barn?
My favorite thing about helping at the barn is raking the hay area, putting it into a wheelbarrow, and then taking it to empty in Pasture #6.

4. What are some of the challenges when helping at the barn?Working at the barn can be challenging because there is always so much to do, and little time to do it in. That's why teamwork makes the dream work!

5. What are some tips you would give to other riders when helping out at the barn?
Some tips I would like to offer other rider are to do what Ms. Lauren tells you, and enjoy the time you have at the barn for the day!

2025 is the year of the High Caliber Memorial Tree Project! Over time we have all been influenced by both great people and horses who are no longer with us. To honor those special souls, we are planting trees to give back to our lesson horses that have given so much to us. This April, we will be planting both shade trees and camellia bushes to represent those who have gone on before us but are forever in our hearts. The trees will provide shade for our horses and the bushes, which bloom at all points of the year, will bring constant beauty. Be sure to check out our pilot cluster planted to the right of the drive as you come to the barn. Thank you to all who are joining us in this project, we are so excited to get planting!"

High Caliber Academy rider Marlie Shilesky was chosen to receive the “Weaver’s Choice” Award at her school’s Senior Art Show last week. With the help of friends and family voting electronically, she was announced the winner at the awards ceremony. The best surprise for Marlie was seeing her High Caliber friends surprise her and show up in person to support her. Congratulations, Marlie -your hard work and talent is paying off!

High Caliber as a hidden treasure in Meredith Ross and her skill for pairing up the correct academy/lesson horses with the right people! Take and three special horses that are now High Caliber Alumni: 1) CH Stonecroft Front and Center; known as Alex - he is owned and loved by Mary Alice Carter and was named the 2024 Academy Horse of the Year at the National Academy Championship Horse Show last fall; 2) Miss La Ti Da; known as Belle and is owned and loved by Ashlyn Vaughn; and 3) Fox Grape's Wild Dreamer, known to many around the Carolinas as Stevie, who is owned, loved, and shared by Jillian Gardner. These horses allow many riders to have a horse of their own, often keeping them riding and in the industry even if they cannot make the move to performance. Meredith has a knack for knowing which horses will thrive in different riding programs, allowing for many more horses to fill important jobs! Thank you, Meredith for helping so many find their place!

It's officially Baby Season at High Caliber! We are so excited to get them out to explore the world but we also are asking for everyone's help in keeping them healthy! Like a human newborn, our newborn foals are still working on building their immune system up to protect them. Please admire them over the fence but DO NOT TOUCH the moms or babies, no matter how much they beg for attention! Thank you for your help in keeping the cutest High Caliber members SAFE in their first days and weeks learning how to be a horse!

Check out our new website! We are so excited about the story Karly Morgan and were able to tell! THANK YOU!! 💙💛💙
