It's Giving Tuesday! Here are a few of our biggest medically needy dogs (aka as "expensive"). Sweeet puppy Baxter suffered a major seizure at just 11 weeks old. Handsome Dakota has a Grade 6 Heart Murmur and our gentle old man Rico is 15 years old and suffers with chronic eye and ear infections. Donations of any amount are much appreciated for helping with the medical expenses of these special boys.

Is someone talking about me?? With those ears, Alfie doesn't miss much! He is a Golden-hearted dog we brought in from Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene. Here's his story:

Hi There! I’m Alfie! I weigh 40 pounds and the vet thinks I’m about a year old. I’m a little guy, but I’m mighty! I was at a shelter out west when the storm hit and I was among the first dogs evacuated. You might have noticed I’m not a Golden Retriever, but you should know I’m Golden Hearted!

TGRR just found a foster home for me. So far, I’m doing great there! I love my foster mom’s other dogs and the humans I’ve met so far. They go hiking a lot, and I love it! I also like to play HARD with my new dog friends.

I can hardly wait to find my forever home! I sure hope they like to hike!

Kira is still looking for the final stop in her long journey from being a stray in rough shape to finding her home. Could that be you??
Here's her story:

Hi! I’m Kira and I’m a very happy girl! I’m about 18-months-old and I weigh around 70 pounds. I’m a sweet Golden mix!

I was living a rough life on the streets and was collected by animal control. I came into TGRR underweight, scraggly and I had a bad case of heartworms. Now, my skin is almost cleared up, my fur is looking so much better (if I do say so myself), I’ve gained weight (actually a little too much), and I’m done with my heartworm treatments!

I love my foster mom and I am so grateful to her for taking such good care of me. I am a playful girl, but I’ve had to keep calm during my heartworm treatment. But now, I’m ready to PLAY! I love playing tug and I love my dog toys A LOT. I can even entertain myself with a toy.

I’m not wild about other dogs, especially dogs that get in my face. I like to be the alpha dog and honestly, would just prefer to be the only dog in my forever home.

I get excited when I’m around kids! Kids are awesome – especially the older ones (I’m too much for the young ones)! They’re great fun to play with. My neighbors have a cat and I love watching her through the fence. I’m very chill watching her, so I think I could live with a cat.

I’m good about getting in and out of the car but have been known to get car sick on long rides. The solution: don’t feed me before long car rides!

I haven’t been able to go for walks yet because of my heartworms, but I’m starting to now. I admit it, I pull pretty hard on leash when I see something that interests me. I’m a quick learner though, so if you have the patience to train me, I bet we could enjoy lots of long walks together.

As for other training, my foster mom says I have “selective hearing.” I know a lot of commands but I don’t always choose to do them. I know Sit, Come, Lie Down, Back, Leave it and Drop it. I’m mostly housebroken but sometimes foster mom has me using p*e pads at night because she doesn’t feel safe taking me outside when it’s dark.

I’ve come a long way since being a stray, but I’m told there’s one final landing place in my journey – having my own Forever Family. Is that you? I hope so!

UPDATE: ACE IS NOW IN A FOSTER HOME!

Here's a message from one of our new dogs:

Howdy! I’m Ace! I weigh 58 pounds and am around 2 years old. I was found as a stray and taken to a shelter. I’ve been boarding at a pet resort, patiently waiting for a foster family and a forever home!

I’m a sweet boy, and once I get over my shyness, I really love to give kisses and I’m a gentle boy. I know how to sit and pet resort staff are teaching me Stay and Down.

I really like other dogs but I admit, I like to be the dominant one. I haven’t been around kids or cats yet, so I’m not sure about them.

I’m a nosy boy! I like knowing what everyone is doing. I used to worry that someone was going to take my food so I growled at anyone coming near but now I’m much more trusting.

The great folks at TGRR are looking hard to find me a foster family so they can learn more about me – right now I’m a bit of a “mystery man.” Maybe you’d like to have me for a trial run in a foster-to- adopt placement? I hope so!
