🚩Immediate, Urgent Rescue needed for "Hot Cheeto"🚩

🚩She has until 5pm today.🚩

🚩Urgent Rescue Needed for Mastiff Puppy "Finch" 🚩

Finch is a 10 month old female mastiff. She was an owner surrender with her 3 other siblings(who are also looking for rescue). Finch is very undersocialized and does not walk well on a leash. She is very sweet once she feels comfortable! She does best hanging out in a staff office😁. Finch is dog friendly (video in comments). Heartworm negative.

Please reach out to Kendelle Federico at 336-266-4138 or Jennifer Welch at 336-312-9651 or email [email protected] or [email protected] if you are interested in pulling Finch.

A citizen of Greensboro found Gemini and described her as a very friendly dog, so he took her home. While playing frisbee in the yard, Gemini tried to grab it from his hand and accidentally tooth scraped him. It’s unfortunate that Gemini now has a bite on her record for “playing”. She’s a super friendly, outgoing girl that has more than enough affection to go around. Gemini is 2 years old, 63.8lbs., heartworm negative and up to date on her vaccines.

If any eligible rescues are interested in committing to Gemini, please reach out to our rescue coordinator, Jennifer Welch, at [email protected].

Update: Rescued by SPCA of Wake County

Rescue needed for Isa!!

On March 23rd, a woman walking in the park reported that Isa ran out from behind a car and scared her, causing her to run. Isa gave chase and nipped her calf. Animal Control took a picture of the bite to show that it was extremely minor. Isa is a Jack Russell Terrier mix, and Jacks have high prey drives, it’s no wonder Isa took chase when the woman ran! Witnesses in the area advise that an alternate woman pushed Isa out of her car and abandoned her just days before the bite incident occurred. Isa is a young silly girl who rolls over on her belly for rubs. She’ll clean out your ears with kisses and love while trying to squeeze herself into your lap. She does the cutest play bows when she’s trying to get you to pay attention to her.

Isa is 2 years old, 33.0lbs., heartworm negative and up to date on her vaccines.
ONLY AVAILABLE FOR RESCUE
Please contact Jennifer Welch with Guilford County Animal Services at 336-641-2642 or [email protected] if you have room in your program for this beautiful girl.

Rescue needed for Mazie!

Mazie is a medium sized mixed breed female who arrived at the shelter in early March. She is heartworm negative, spayed, weighs about 52 lbs and is looking for placement.

When Mazie arrived at the shelter, she was very nervous and was placed under behavior evaluation to determine a pathway for her. She quickly gained confidence with the help of staff and was made available. She still may take some time to warm up but once she does, she is a friendly pup!

Mazie is looking for placement as in a single dog home and single pet family due to reactivity to other dogs and cats. Previously adopted, she was unable to remain with the family due to landlord issues. In the time she was adopted, the adopters informed us that she enjoys being her person's shadow, is housetrained and crate trained, and knows commands such as shake, stay, and sit!

If any rescues are interested in committing to Mazie, or if an approved adopter is interested in her, please reach out to our rescue coordinator at [email protected] or our foster coordinator at [email protected]

Update: Adopted by an approved adopter!

Gyro is a 3 year old grey and white bulldog mix who was found by animal control as a stray on April 1st. He is 35 lbs, heartworm negative, and neutered.

Since he arrived at the shelter, he has shown his fun personality - he was nervous and unsure when he first arrived but now happily greets people both at the kennel front and when he is out and about! Gyro is a treat motived little guy who shows off his piggy snorts when he gets excited. He does very well on a leash and is attentive to his handler when walking. Out in the yard, he enjoys to sniff about and happily accepts any treats that someone might have, even standing up on his hind legs and raising a paw as if to say 'may I have that please?' !

Gyro is rescue only due to a bite that occurred at the time of surgery - one of our vet techs was placing him back in the kennel when Gyro turned and bit their forearm. Gyro has went through rabies observation and has been cleared and is in search of rescue.

Gyro is rescue only. If any eligible rescues are interested in committing to Gyro, please reach out to our assistant director, Lisa Lee, at [email protected] .

Update 3/27: Molly has been adopted! If you are interested in adopting a dog, please look at our adoption gallery. We have many dogs looking for their new homes!

Dog Adoption Gallery: https://www.guilfordcountync.gov/our-county/animal-services/adopt/dog-adoption-gallery

Update 3/26: Molly has been made available for adoption. Our adoption hours are 12 pm - 4 pm every day but Tuesday. Please note that we cannot hold pets for adoption or guarantee that specific animals will be available at the time of your appointment or walk in. As the county shelter, we are required to operate on a first-come, first-serve format based on our walk-in adoptions. We apologize, but we cannot notify of availability due to the amount of requests we would get for this and the amount of time it would take.

Molly’s owner heartbreakingly surrendered her on the 12th of March. He wrote a long paragraph explaining that he’s had her since she was a puppy and how much he loves her. The hikes they took, that fact that she’s very playful and barks for attention. He begged us to be patient with her because she wouldn’t understand why she could no longer be with him. He’s said he wishes he could still be her daddy, but his condition was getting worse and was in and out of the hospital. He knew whoever had the pleasure of having Molly, they would truly enjoy her! Molly is 1 years old, 81.2lbs., heartworm negative and up to date on her vaccines.

If any eligible rescues are interested in committing to Molly, please reach out to our rescue coordinator, Jennifer Welch, at [email protected], and her assistant, Nigel Skerrett at [email protected] for more information.

Update: Adopted by an approved adopter.

Alex was surrendered on March 4th for biting EVERYONE in the family. While Alex was doing her time, we noticed that she was incredibly happy and wiggly. Happy and wiggly is not how we would describe the other dogs in her unit – angry and scary are their typical descriptions! We believe Alex was herding her family in the direction she wanted them to go and if they didn’t move, they got nipped as herding dogs do! Alex is fast on her feet - loves to run at top speed and play with toys, especially stuffed animals. She seeks out attention and wants to be loved on. Alex is 1 years old, 25.4lbs., heartworm negative, up to date on her vaccines and microchipped.

If any eligible rescues are interested in committing to Alex, please reach out to our rescue coordinator, Jennifer Welch, at [email protected], and her assistant, Nigel Skerrett at [email protected] for more information.

Lady and a neighbor’s dog were introduced to each other and got into a fight. When the owners tried to break the fight up, it resulted in a bite that they said Lady did. However, you can’t imagine a sweeter girl! Rolling over so several of us staff members can rub her belly is not a scary dog. In fact, she’s a goofy playful girl. Lady is 5 years old, 60.0lbs., heartworm positive and up to date on her vaccines.

If any eligible rescues are interested in committing to Lady, please reach out to our rescue coordinator, Jennifer Welch, at [email protected], and her assistant, Nigel Skerrett at [email protected] for more information.

Update: Adopted!
Olympian’s owner said he just got too big and won’t stay in the makeshift fence he made for him, so they surrendered him on the 21st of February. Olympian is a big ole lovable boy that is very active and truly wants your attention but was kept outside all the time. People don’t realize that boredom in an active dog causes them to misbehave and Olympian escaped that shabby fence every chance he could. Olympian acts indifferent with other dogs, but he’s not indifferent with people…he’s pretty amazing! Olympian is 3 years old, 102.8lbs., heartworm negative and up to date on his vaccines.

If any eligible rescues are interested in committing to Olympian, please reach out to our rescue coordinator, Jennifer Welch, at [email protected], and her assistant, Nigel Skerrett at [email protected] for more information.

The victim stated that Reid ran up to her while she was walking her small breed dog. She got alarmed and picked her dog up. Reid then jumped up on her and caused three scratches to her hand that did not bleed. She couldn’t identify if it was Reid’s paws or teeth that left the scratches, therefore Reid had to be quarantined. Reid had a hard time in quarantine – she wanted to be touched and loved on so badly, and now that her time is over – she has been silly and wiggly and very happy! Reid is 10 months old, 56.0lbs., heartworm negative and up to date on her vaccines.

If any eligible rescues are interested in committing to Reid, please reach out to our rescue coordinator, Jennifer Welch, at [email protected], and her assistant, Nigel Skerrett at [email protected] for more information.

A very kind lady found Brit running loose on a heavily traveled street here in Greensboro and brought her to the shelter on the 24th of February. She weighs 21 pounds but should probably weigh between 16-18 pounds…she’s very food motivated! Don’t ignore Brit cause she’ll paw at your leg and remind you she’s there. Brit is 5 years, heartworm negative and up to date on her vaccines.

If any eligible rescues are interested in committing to Brit, please reach out to our rescue coordinator, Jennifer Welch, at [email protected], and her assistant, Nigel Skerrett at [email protected] for more information.

To avoid citations Leche and her 12 puppies were surrendered to Animal Control on the 22nd of February – the owner couldn’t and/or wouldn’t keep them contained. Twelve puppies for any one mother can be extremely overwhelming, but Leche cared for all her babies as if it was no big deal. Now that all her babies are safe, she’s decided to get all dressed up for a dog’s day out with the girls. She’s hoping to now find her safe heaven! Leche is a little shy and very tender with all her movements – when she approaches you, taking treats from your hand or when she lays her head on you and looks up at you with the most loving look. Leche is 3 years old, 39.5lbs. and up to date on her vaccines.

If any eligible rescues are interested in committing to Leche, please reach out to our rescue coordinator, Jennifer Welch, at [email protected], and her assistant, Nigel Skerrett at [email protected] for more information.

Duke’s owner said she traveled for work and was away from home all the time - she just didn’t have time for Duke – he was surrendered on February 23rd. Duke came in with his tail tucked and head hung low - he had zero confidence. He’s still a little shy but has discovered that strangers aren’t that scary. Now all he tries to do is get in my lap and give me kisses. Duke is 3 years old, 34.0lbs., heartworm negative and up to date on his vaccines.

If any eligible rescues are interested in committing to Duke, please reach out to our rescue coordinator, Jennifer Welch, at [email protected], and her assistant, Nigel Skerrett at [email protected] for more information.

Meet Baxter!

Baxter is a 6-year-old neutered male chocolate lab mix. He has spent his life as an outdoor dog and is looking for a second chance. He unfortunately has a high prey drive, as some dogs do. He ended up being surrendered to GCAS due to accidentally biting his previous owner when the owner was attempting to separate Baxter from a small Pomeranian that had wandered into his yard.

However, Baxter has no other history of being dog reactive, and in fact lived with three other dogs. He is affectionate, medium energy, and interacted well with the previous owner’s niece and nephew, who were young children. While here at GCAS, he has been friendly with staff – taking treats gently, aways wagging his tail, and leaning in to be petted.

Baxter has come down with an upper respiratory infection, which he is being treated for, so unfortunately we are unable to do a dog to dog test with him currently.

If any eligible rescues are interested in committing to Baxter, please reach out to our rescue coordinator, Jennifer Welch, at [email protected], and her assistant, Nigel Skerrett at [email protected] for more information.

One day Megga showed up to a house and stayed for 2 days before the homeowner called Animal Control to pick him up on the 3rd of February. If you're ok with drool, you will love Megga! He is the best boy…affectionate, wiggly and an absolute snuggle bug! Every time he looks at you, he appears to be smiling! Megga has a ruptured cruciate that will require repair and a crook tail that I mentioned just because it’s cute. 😊 Megga is 2 years old, 79.0lbs., heartworm negative and up to date on his vaccines.

If any eligible rescues are interested in committing to Megga, please reach out to our rescue coordinator, Jennifer Welch, at [email protected], and her assistant, Nigel Skerrett at [email protected] for more information.

Apple and her littermates were surrendered by their owner on the 7th of February. They advised they had too many puppies to care for and amongst the litter was Apple. Chocolate and white in color, she was adorable! Apple was just as wonderfully outgoing and playful as her littermates, but she was unable to bear any weight on her left rear leg. We had no explanation as to how she injured herself but discovered through radiographs that her hock bone was fractured. Apple is 2 ½ months old, 8.0lbs. and up to date on her vaccines.

RESCUE ONLY - Please contact Jennifer Welch, Rescue Coordinator with Guilford County Animal Services at [email protected] if you have room in your program for this lovely little girl.

Mystery was found on the side of the road injured on the night of November 20th. Not weight bearing on her right rear leg and finding out through radiograph that her leg was severely fractured and would require amputation, which took place on January 4th. Mystery is excited every time you get near her kennel – she’ll show off her broad tail wags and then she begins dancing and prancing for your attention. This extremely gentle girl is the very definition of wonderful! She’s already spayed, 5 years old, 39.2lbs., heartworm negative, up to date on her vaccines and microchipped.

If any eligible rescues are interested in committing to Mystery, please reach out to our rescue coordinator, Jennifer Welch, at [email protected], and her assistant, Nigel Skerrett at [email protected] for more information.

Luna (AKA Ponytail) was initially surrendered on the 17th of December, her family said she was a chewer and could no longer keep her. As adorable as she is, she was adopted quickly, but surrendered just as quickly on the 22nd of December. Her owner said she was urinating all over the house, but we discovered that she had a urinary tract infection that has since been treated. Ponytail is definitely in need of some manners, but hilarious to watch play – she runs, jumps, flips, trips over herself and back to her feet! Luna is already spayed, 1 years old, 34.6lbs., heartworm negative, up to date on her vaccines and microchipped.

If any rescues are interested in Luna, please contact our rescue coordinator, Jennifer Welch, at [email protected]
