The weather is going to be bitter cold this weekend with ice and significant snow expected. Please bring your pets inside or in adequate insulated conditions. The shelter has straw, free of charge if you need it to help insulate for your pets. Please bring your large trash bags and we will stuff them full for you.

Shelter hours are noon till 4pm today and Saturday 11 till 2

The Greensburg Decatur County Animal Shelter is happy to report we sent 6 dogs out to rescue this month.

We also sent 2 dogs to the foster program, Riley and Buzzie. Buzzie was adopted by the family. And Dynasty, now Perdy was adopted from our foster program as well.

We are so thankful to our rescue partners and our fosters. Thank you for helping us help them. Stay tuned for our annual report for 2024.

As the year draws to a close and you consider donation opportunities, we kindly ask that you remember the Friends of the Greensburg & Decatur County Animal Shelter (FOGDCAS). Our mission is to support the shelter and advocate for its incredible work.

Currently, the shelter dreams of building a new facility, and we are dedicated to turning that dream into reality. To achieve this, we are raising funds specifically for the new shelter project. We accept donations for the shelter everyday but today let's focus on the shelter building needs.

The board had their last meeting of the year this evening. During that meeting we told the Shelter Director that we would like to spend up to $1,000 for needs at the shelter prior to the end of the year. The Shelter Director will work with the Friends of GDCAS Treasurer to get the money spent on needs that she comes up with.

These opportunities are thanks to our wonderful donors. Every dollar that comes into the Friends of goes towards the needs at the shelter.

🐾 Prada's journey at the Greensburg & Decatur County Animal Shelter is a testament to compassion and teamwork. When she arrived during fair week, the Shelter Director interrupted a concession stand fundraiser to take the call in 90-degree heat. Instead of opting for an easy way out and saying she was beyond saving due to her special needs, the dedicated team worked tirelessly to make Prada feel at home. I was personally at the shelter one day when staff and a volunteer took her to Mcdonald's to get chicken nuggets and go for a car ride. In the face of challenges, they demonstrated what truly separates a shelter from the negative connotations of a "Dog Pound." Prada's beautiful eyes captured the hearts of everyone involved, showcasing the incredible impact that support can have. Your contributions, whether through volunteerism, donations, or simply being there, make a significant difference every day. It's not just about saving lives; it's about creating a positive change. 🎉 Update: Our community has rallied together and we've reached an incredible milestone of $1,738.08 in donations after all Paypal and Venmo fees for Diego! Your generosity is making a real difference. 🙌 If you would like to donate there is still time. To streamline the process, we'll be wrapping up the fundraiser tomorrow at 10 am on 1/9/24. This will allow us to smoothly transfer the funds to our bank account, ensuring they swiftly reach the vet for Diego's surgery. Diego has been safely taken to the rescue and is scheduled for surgery tomorrow. The rescue and vet have coordinated for the Vet to complete the surgery and then accept our contribution via check, easing the process for all involved. Before Diego embarked on his journey to the rescue, a heartwarming video was captured, giving us a glimpse of his spirit. Check it out below. A huge thank you goes out to everyone involved — donors, those who shared the post, and even those who spread the word. Your collective efforts mean Diego can undergo surgery and recover in a loving rescue home instead of a shelter kennel. Stay tuned for many more updates on Diego's progress.
