GET TO KNOW YOUR K. VET ANIMAL CARE TEAM!

Every Wednesday, we will be highlighting a member of our team, so you may get to know us better. 😊

Chelsa just joined the K Vet team in August 2023. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, she was always passionate about taking care of animals at a young age. As she got older, she volunteered at various rescues across the United States including the Helen Woodward Animal Sanctuary in San Diego, where she lived off and on for ten years, which intrigued her interest in veterinary medicine. She became a technician in 2003 in Ho Ho Kus, NJ where the doctor and owner took time to teach her the skills and compassion she will never lose. She obtained an Associates degree at San Diego Mesa College and a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education but nothing could keep her away from her passion of veterinary medicine and rescuing animals in need.

Chelsa is a sucker for senior pups and anything that's slightly crooked or imperfect. She is the proud momma of two silly humans Ellis and Julius, 5 dog babies (Stewballs, Oreo, Critter, Harper, and Shirley squirrel), 1 crazy cat (Bubblegum Nacho) and 1 red eared slider turtle (Shelly). In her spare time, she enjoys being outdoors and would crumble without yoga and music.

Despite its name, ringworm (dermatophytosis) is a skin condition caused by a microscopic fungus that's found in the dirt. This fungus feeds off of protein found in hair and skin, and its favorite restaurant is your feline friend! Here are four common signs of ringworm in cats. If you believe your own cat has this condition, schedule an appointment with us today by calling us at (724) 216-5174!

Lien is a senior at the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in biology with chemistry and studio arts minors. She started working at K. Vet in 2021 as a CSR and kennel assistant and is also now a technician. Her plan is to become a veterinarian with a specialization in exotic or wildlife animals, gaining passion for this field through volunteering at the Pittsburgh Zoo and a local wildlife rescue center. Lien has a bird named Starbucks, but she also enjoys spending time with her roommate’s cat, Mavis, and her sister’s pets, Loki and Rusty. In her free time, her hobbies include any type of art such as painting and dancing.

Her favorite animals are opossums because they help get rid of pests while being just so darn cute!

11/22/2023

As a reminder, we will be closing at 5 P.M today (Nov. 22nd) and closed all day tomorrow (Nov. 23rd) for the holiday!

We wish you all a safe and wonderful holiday! 🦃🐾

Remember, any food that isn't a regular part of a pet's diet—especially fatty foods like ham, gravy, dark turkey meat, and turkey skin—can cause issues ranging from diarrhea to pancreatitis, and some human foods can even poison your pets. Side dishes like stuffing and mashed potatoes may contain garlic, onion, leeks, or chives that are toxic to dogs and cats. Desserts may include dangerous-to-pets ingredients like chocolate, raisins, currants, and Xylitol (a popular sugar substitute)—so reserve the sweet stuff for humans only. Plus, chewing and swallowing bones may cause a life-threatening obstruction that requires emergency surgery.

Leah joined the K. Vet Animal Care team in June of 2020. She is an undergraduate student at the University of Findlay where she is studying Animal Science with a Pre-Vet emphasis. Her goal is to become a vet, specializing in small animal and equine medicine. She enjoys spending time with her dog, Duchess, horseback riding for the Findlay dressage team, spending time with friends and family, archery, going to the gym, and digital art.

Leah’s favorite animal is a dog because they are the embodiment of unconditional love.

Here's a fun fact! The secret of a dog’s night vision that allows them to see better than humans in low light situations is a large number of light-sensitive rods found in the retina that collect light. The dog’s rod-dominant retina collects this light and using a thin tissue behind the retina called the tapetum lucidum amplifies and reflects the light back to the camera-like lens, which focuses on what the dog is looking at. Every Wednesday, we will be highlighting a member of our team, so you may get to know us better. 😊

Victoria attended and graduated Pittsburgh Career Institute in December of 2022. She is aiming to take her exam by the end of 2023 to become a certified veterinary technician. She did her externship with us and joined the team after graduation. When she isn’t at work, she enjoys painting, hiking and fishing, road trips, and spending time with friends and family. As well as her dogs Sidney, George, and her cat Ozzy. Small animal medicine has always perked her interest. Victoria’s passion all started with her grandmother whenever she was little, who rescued and fostered plenty of avian and small exotic pets. Victoria's favorite animal is a sloth because "well, they’re adorable and take their time. Also very chill and lovable."
