Adoption fees include the pets spay/neuter, worming medicine, first year vaccines and rabies vaccine. The shelter will no longer pay for the following items. Owners will be required to pay the extra surgery cost at the time of pick-up for their animals.

A few reminders to the public:

1. We ask that you please watch your dog when it is outside, especially if it is a purebred. We have had an incident with a missing pet that was found quite a distance from Decatur County, the dog had been stolen and had been posted for sale on Craigslist. Help us help keep your pets safe.

2. Please think twice before using sites such as Craigslist to re-home your pet. As sad as it is, people use free pets from these sights as bait dogs in order to train their fighting dogs. Please consider using a local shelter, humane society, or rescue as a safe alternative to re-home your pet. Please contact your local shelter with any questions.

This is Bingo! Bingo is a red heeler mix who is a little over a year old. She is already spayed and up to date on her vaccines. Bingo is potty trained and crate trained. She does well on the leash and she likes car rides too. We’ve tested her with cats and kids and she did really well! Bingo has lots of energy so she needs room to run. However she also is very sweet and likes belly rubs too. She can be a little timid at first but when she warms up her personality is so fun. Bingos adoption fee is $40! Come see her ♥️

This is R***r! R***r is a male Rottweiler/Shepherd mix who is around 1 year old. He is still young so he has lots of energy to play. A home with a fenced in yard or underground fence is ideal. R***r is dog selective so a meet and greet is required. He hasn’t been around cats that we know of. He is very sweet and has never shown any aggression with people so we think he would be good with children. R***r likes getting pets and going on car rides in his free time! This is Runt! Runt is a Black and Tan Coonhound/St. Bernard mix who is 2 years old. He is VERY loving and gives hugs. We have given him his first round of vaccines and flea/worm treatment. Runt does not get along with cats. In his previous home he was fighting with another male dog, but they were both unaltered and there was a female in heat in the vicinity. As of now, we have no reason to believe he is dog aggressive but we are requiring meet and greets with any other dogs in a potential home. Stop by and see Runt!

This is Arwen! She is a female mixed breed dog. She is still young, around 1 year old. She is not potty trained but she walks pretty well on the leash. Arwen has been around other dogs and cats and she did really well with them! She is VERY food motivated. We are convinced she goes to sleep and wakes up with food on her mind 😄 She is a very sweet girl just looking for her forever home.

We wanted to take a moment to highlight our only senior cat resident! This beautiful girl is Paris! She is around 9 years old, spayed, up to date on vaccines and FIV/FeLV negative. She is very sweet and loving, always rubbing her face on things. However, she does NOT like to be picked up and held. She gets along well with the other cats here at the shelter and she has been friendly with the children who visit too. She uses the litter box as well. Paris loves to take naps in her free time. We don't know what her life was like before coming to the shelter, but we're hoping she can spend the remainder of it in a warm, loving home. Her adoption fee is $60. The GDCAS Adoption event hosted by Greensburg Rural King was amazing. We adopted out 4 dogs Riley, Marigold, Bandit, our longest resident Benji, and Eddie is in Foster to adopt. Also 3 cats, Mama Odie, Babe, Patches also 2 cats OJ and Calliope, are pending adoption.

We cannot thank Rural King and the staff enough. They were amazing hosts, more than accommodating, and employees even sponsored adoptions and adopted themselves. THANK YOU!

This big girl is Sissy! Sissy is a female German Shepard who is 5 years old. She is not fully potty trained so she will need some work in that department. She walks on the leash well, but she doesn't really like to have the leash put on. She even knows some commands like sit, stay and shake. Sissy is dog, kid and elderly friendly. We’ve got puppies! We have 4 shepherd mix puppies and we want to be clear that they will be BIG dogs at adulthood. They are currently between 12-16 weeks old. There are 2 girls and 2 boys. The girls are black and the boys are tan. All of them have had their first rounds of vaccines and flea/worm preventatives. They seem to be dog friendly. The girls don’t potty in their kennels but the boys do. None of them walk great on the leash but they can learn quickly! They aren’t currently fixed but they will be soon. The Shelter still has straw if you need to insulate for outdoor pets. This weather is frigid and cold and we encourage pets to be kept indoors during the below freezing temps. However, outdoor shelters that need insulated we can assist with, Please bring your bags and we can let you stuff them full.

!!ATTENTION DECATUR COUNTY!!

We have a deceased bulldog here at the shelter and we are currently on the hunt for his owners. He does not have a collar and he is not microchipped or neutered. It appears that he most likely escaped his home and froze to death. If he has a home we would really like to give the owners closure and the opportunity to bury/cremate him. PLEASE SHARE!!

Decatur County is still currently under a Red Tavel Warning. Due to this, the shelter will be CLOSED tomorrow January 7th to the public. Please do not risk your safety to come see us. Staff will be there to care for the animals and to complete some basic cleaning, then they will head home. Stay safe, Decatur County ♥️

We are extremely proud to share one of our huge success stories we have been working on for some time. This is Prada. Prada had a long long journey with us that began in July 2023. Our Director received a call about a dog that had dropped from the extreme July heat. She rushed to the scene and decided it was best to bring Prada to our care. She had heat exhaustion, Her pads were burned from hot pavement, she was underweight, had severe skin issues, an ear and eye infection, but mostly she was very very scared of human contact. It took our Kennel Techs days to be able to handle her. But with time, patience and lots of treats, slowly Prada began to trust them. Prada was brought into our ISO area because she was unable to cope with the loud sounds and traffic. It is important to stress, our staff can see through anxious behavior that is induced by stress and fear. Often these animals come to us sick and malnourished with unkind pasts always through no fault of their own. It can take days, weeks months to gain an animals trust again after trauma, and here at the GDCAS, we believe every animal deserves a second chance at life. We believe every animal is worthy of every fighting chance we can give them. Prada was well deserving of this chance. The amazing Kennel techs and staff spent days, weeks, months brining Prada to her truest self. However, her circumstances would require care we could no longer maintain at the shelter. And as much as we loved Prada and this had become her home in so many ways, Prada needed a home. A real home. But she continued to suffer from fear of Humans. So we knew her best chance was with the most experienced Bully breed rescue we knew in Indiana. This is when Our Adoption coordinator reached out to Luccis House Of Bullys Rescue. And very shortly after, they commited to pull Prada!!! this was the best case scenario for our girl. Here she will have experienced handlers who specilize in girls like Prada. But her journey did not begin there ev
