1. We ask that you please watch your dog when it is outside, especially if it is a purebred. We have had an incident with a missing pet that was found quite a distance from De

catur County, the dog had been stolen and had been posted for sale on Craigslist. Help us help keep your pets safe.

2. Please think twice before using sites such as Craigslist to re-home your pet. As sad as it is, people use free pets from these sights as bait dogs in order to train their fighting dogs. Please consider using a local shelter, humane society, or rescue as a safe alternative to re-home your pet. Please contact your local shelter with any questions.

‼️CALLING ALL CAT LOVERS‼️ Edit: MOMO HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!

This girl is Momo. Momo is rapidly declining, meaning she is refusing to eat or drink, because she is very unhappy about living in a kennel. We cannot place her in our free roam cat room because she cannot live with other animals. Momo is older, 6 years, and needs somewhere besides the shelter to live. We are extremely worried about her health. None of the staff can take her home because we all have other animals. Momo has put up walls. She hisses and growls, but she truly just wants a calm, peaceful environment. She lets us pet her, and we were able to move her to a larger kennel for the time being. We need someone who’s not afraid of her abrasive behavior. Someone who’s willing to be patient with her and give her grace while she tries to adjust. She’s not a mean cat. She just can’t stay any longer in the shelter. She needs someone’s help. Even if it’s just a foster placement. Her life depends on it. Please help us help Momo. ❤️‍🩹

Greensburg Decatur County Animal Shelter Selected for National Lifesaving Initiative to Boost Pet Adoptions

Best Friends Animal Society partners with animal shelters and rescue groups for Bring Love Home Challenge, to increase pet adoptions December 1-31 GDCAS will participate in the Bring Love Home Challenge, a nationwide effort to help more cats and dogs find homes this December. Led by Best Friends Animal Society, a leading national animal welfare organization working to save the lives of cats and dogs in America’s shelters and take the country no-kill*, the challenge aims to increase lifesaving, and participants will be eligible to receive grant funding.

GDCAS is joining nearly 300 animal shelters and rescue groups across the country to address the critical need for increased pet adoptions by piloting data-backed changes to help more pets get adopted or fostered — such as reducing adoption fees, eliminating home checks, and offering multilingual customer service for adopters and fosters.

In conjunction with the challenge,G DCAS will be hosting an ongoing adoption event December 16th –December 31st 2025. All fees will be reduced to $40 fully vetted dogs and $20 fully vetted cats and kittens.

When Best Friends launched its first Bring Love Home Challenge in June 2024, the response was extraordinary — 34,557 cats and dogs found loving homes, an impressive 3,548 more than the same time the year before.

GDCAS Has also implemented a Bi-Lingual adoption form and also have online adoptions forms as well now.

“More adoptions and pets being fostered means more lives saved,” said Whitney Bollinger, Director of Strategy & Network Operations, Best Friends Animal Society. “We selected GDCAS for the Bring Love Home Challenge because of their commitment to making adoptions and fostering more accessible in their community and helping more cats and dogs find the homes they need and deserve.”

*No-kill is defined by a 90% save rate for animals entering a shelter and is a meaningful and common-sense benchmark for measuring lifesaving progress. Typically, the number of pets who are suffering from irreparable medical or behavioral issues that compromise their quality of life and prevent them from being rehomed is not more than 10% of all dogs and cats entering shelters. For any community to be no-kill, all stakeholders in that community must work together to achieve and sustain that common goal while prioritizing community safety and good quality of life for pets as guiding no-kill principles. This means cooperation among animal shelters, animal rescue groups, government agencies, community members and other stakeholders, all committed to best practices and protocols.
