NEWS RELEASE

CHARGES FILED IN ANIMAL CRUELTY CASE

Miami County deputies were recently provided information from several county residents of alleged animal cruelty against a dog that a subject had posted about on Facebook. The Facebook posts were copied to deputies and included photos of a deceased dog along with comments that the dog had been ran over and then kicked. Miami County deputies, working with the Miami County Animal Shelter, located the remains of the dog alongside a road. The remains of the dog have been sent to a veterinarian who specializes in the autopsies of animals as to the cause of death. There were no tags or chips located on the dog. Through the investigation the subject posting on Facebook was identified as Joshua C. Oswald, age 29, of Newton Township. Oswald has been charged into Miami County Municipal Court for one count of animal cruelty and one count of improper disposal of an animal. Additionally, Miami County Animal Shelter staff will be filing two counts of failure to license dogs against Oswald as neither of his dogs were licensed. We would like to thank the public for bringing this to our attention and for all of the assistance rendered to deputies.

The Darke County Civic Theater has been busy all summer preparing for the upcoming melodrama at the Annie Oakley Festival. They have five performances scheduled throughout the festival weekend. This years production is "The Ol' Homestead" by Sherry Roseberry and produced by special arrangement with Eldridge Publishing Company.

Unlike most villains, who only have to fight a hero (Jackson Aukerman) in trying to win the lovely lady (Nikki Wheeler), Edgar Duntley (Trevor DeSchepper) has to face Miss Lil's whol...e boardinghouse full of zany characters. There are Miss Lil's mischievous little brothers (Matt Cline & Mitchell Sink) who dislike him, the deaf lady (Lyn Foureman) who keeps staring at him, the men-hungry spinsters (Jennifer Gibson & Danielle Sink) who are chasing him, and others. Even more laughs come from Della (Sandy Hartley), Duntley's cleaning lady accomplice. She is chased by an old boarder (Bill Murphy) and served some "fruit juice" which makes her stiff as a board. Rounding out this colorful cast is a crooked lawyer (Chris Phillips), sarcastic maid (Connie DeSchepper), errand girl (Olivia Leeper), snobby aunt (Karen Hamilton), homely cousin (Samantha Aukerman) and the hero's sister (Laura Francis).

The performances will take place in the Youth Building at the Darke County Fairgrounds. The showtimes are Thursday July 25th and Friday July 26th at 7:00pm, Saturday July 27th at 3:00pm and 7:00 pm and Sunday July 28th at 1:00pm. Come on out to the festival and enjoy this fun-filled interactive melodrama where you can Boo and Hiss the villain and cheer for the hero. Darke County Civic Theater is a nonprofit community group based in Greenville, Ohio. DCCT has produced many stage plays, melodramas and murder mysteries throughout the years. All of our productions consist of local actors and volunteers.

The Darke County Humane Society Is having their annual shot clinic for dogs and cats on May 5, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Paws Bingo Hall, 848 Martin St., Greenville. The shots are administered by a Veterinarian or Vet Tech, at a savings of at least 40%. Heart worm testing for dogs is also available for $15 and heartworm and flea
prevention will be on sale. For more information, call 548-1009. The best time to come is after 1pm. This is a good opportunity save money and yet keep your pets safe.

The Annie Oakley Festival is giving away free space to any non-profit to hold a fund raising on the fairgrounds during the upcoming Annie Oakley Festival.

This space can be used for a number of uses, product sales, bake sale, pass out information, raffle, etc. To reserve a space for your group, simply go to our web site, forms page and download the non-profit space reservation form. You can also hit email [email protected] and ask for a copy. We will reply with a copy attached.

Hurry now, space is limited and we will be holding an informational meeting in March for all of those that return a completed request.
