🌈Nyssa🌈

This week we were faced with making a heart breaking decision. We had to say goodbye to our sweet little Nyssa and lay her to rest in a final act of kindness. She was on a pain management protocol and getting corrective trims every 4 weeks but no amount of rehabilitation could undo her life of suffering. The neglect she experienced and the damage to her small body was extensive. She spent too many years lying in a pasture unable to move without extreme pain and the strain on her organs was too much. We did everything we could but in the end her heart began to fail. She was having a difficult time breathing and the upcoming winter would have been too much for her. Some things just cant be fixed with love and care or we would never have to say goodbye. Thankfully, her story didn’t end in that pasture alone. She had been welcomed into her own little herd of small donkeys and ponies. She made friends who gave her comfort and companionship. She knew love and proper care. She may have been mini but her impact was far from it.
Special thanks to her wonderful farrier Lacey, who did wonders with her feet and the hero who rescued her, Aly ❤️❤️.

Update on Spirit, he is officially a gelding. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ This is him waking up from his procedure. I’m very impressed with the work that Rockwall Equine does with gelding. No swelling no infection, which is not been the case with other vets.

Miss Nyssa and her new feet!

Nyssa is doing great with her healing journey. Her feet still have a long way to go but they are much closer to looking like normal feet again. She is in much more comfortable now and has even trotted around a little! She’s no longer constantly shifting weight from one tender hoof to another. The deep open wound where her hoof had grown back into her foot is healing nicely. She is still getting hydrotherapy on it everyday so she can’t go meet her new friends quite yet. She is in a cozy dry spot right next door to them so she’s been able to meet them from a distance until her foot completely closes and she can join them. Stay tuned for her debut when she gets to join the herd and be a horse again!

❤️❤️❤️Update on Nyssa❤️❤️❤️
Nyssa had her second trim. She seems much more comfortable and is not shifting her weight as much. She actually trotted the other day….ok well it was to run away from me because it was time for medicine😂 She is a sassy little girl and I hope she can live pain free, she deserves it.
How could anyone be so cruel.

Stayed tuned for more updates. Once her wound is healed she can meet the rest of her new family❤️❤️

✨Introducing✨

Special thanks to our follower Chris, we have decided to call her Nyssa, meaning new beginning. It seemed a perfect fit for this girls journey to her new life.

She had her second vet visit this morning and she got a good report! She got x rays and a full exam. Overall her body condition is decent. Although bone damage has been done and she will experience mild discomfort for the remainder of her life, he doesn’t believe it will be anything worth losing her chance at her new beginning. She does have some bone rotation from untreated founder and one ankle completely fused from arthritis. She will need several corrective trims and continued antibiotics for the infection from the hoof grown into her foot. All in all, she can be saved and we can support her with pain management and allow her to live out a life she so desperately deserves.
We’ve attached the bill from this morning and more will be coming as she goes for her second trim this afternoon now that we have an inside look at what we are working with. We are already over 800 dollars in treatment so far with more to come. The PayPal link will be added for donations or you can just share her story and help us get the word out. Continue to follow us as we help transform this once neglected and forgotten pony into the beautiful healthy princess she will become!

🐴UPDATE🐴

We got the sweet girl tucked in for the night last night. She did really well and stayed on her feet. Yesterday we were able to get her started on pain meds and antibiotics. We got a rough start on her hoof recovery journey but it will be a long one to try and reshape her feet and get her walking normally. She will need several trims over the course of several months to try and get normal function. We were not able to get X-rays on a Saturday so that will be scheduled soon to determine in there’s been any bone rotation and see how far the hoof grew into her leg.
She needs a new name for her new life and we’d like to see some suggestions from our followers! Let us know what you think! Our PayPal is still up for donations for her ongoing care. Please share her journey!
