Why we support the Open Horse Show…

"Everyone who works in our agency has horses and we have all shown at the Open Show at one point or another in our life. We love the horse community and this show has been a staple of The Great Darke County Fair and we want to see it continue to be a success. We love seeing those tiny lead line riders grow each year to become skilled horsemen and women and sometimes coming back to show in that same class with kids of their own. It's like a reunion of horse folks every year and we are proud to be able to contribute to its success!" – Meckes & Associates Insurance

💙 Thank you, Meckes & Associates, for your continued support of the Open Horse Show and our horse community! 🐴

About Meckes & Associates Insurance

Meckes & Associates Insurance began in the fall of 1982 as a partnership between Mike Meckes and Jim Stanforth on Memorial Drive in Greenville. After several years, Mike purchased Jim’s interest, officially establishing Meckes & Associates Insurance.

As the business grew, so did their team. Mike’s longtime friend Steve Myers joined the agency as an agent, and later, Mike’s daughter Tiffany Pope came on board after graduating from Ohio State University.

Today, the agency is located at 5290 Education Drive in Greenville, Ohio, offering an easy-to-find location with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere for both customers and agents.

All of the agents at Meckes & Associates are lifelong residents of Darke County, giving them a deep understanding of the community’s insurance needs. They pride themselves on being neighbors first and foremost—focused on providing outstanding service and products tailored to each individual’s situation.

And as their team likes to say: “All of us are horsemen. Stop by when you’re in the area—we’ll be happy to talk about insurance or our horses!”

Millco Trucking LLC is a small family trucking company that truly understands the significance of agriculture in our community. Nate and Casey Miller, the heart of Millco, take pride in seeing their daughters stepping into the world of horses and beginning their journey in showing at the fair.

Co-owner Casey Miller shares, "We are proud to help sponsor and keep the program going. 4-H has been loved and enjoyed by our 3 daughters. One of the best memories was when Ashton couldn’t get her horse to go forward and they gave her time and time again to try. When she finally did, everyone cheered! We’re so excited to highlight one of our amazing Open Horse Show sponsors: Brinkmann Home Improvement

Brinkmann Home Improvement specializes in custom concrete work, from garage and house slabs to decorative patios and sidewalks. Luke and Ally Brinkman take pride in delivering quality craftsmanship and personalized service on every project.

But beyond their business, the Brinkmann family has deep roots in our local horse community. Ally grew up in 4-H, where she and her heart horse, Daniel, earned countless championships. She’s now giving back by coaching local 4-H riders, mentoring kids who have gone on to win at both the Darke County and State Fair levels. Ally is a true role model for our youth, keeping the 4-H tradition strong for the next generation.

✨ Ally’s Favorite Memory:

“One of my favorite memories from the fair was playing Topsy Turvy when I was little. Two of us would ride together—one in front and one in back—and when the announcer called ‘topsy turvy,’ we had to switch spots while the horse kept moving. The first pair to fall was out, and it got even wilder when we had to switch at the trot or ended up riding backwards. It was always such a blast!”

Her mom, Rena Lavy, proudly shared that Ally first climbed in the saddle at age 4, started showing by 6, and worked with Lynne Puthoff at Puthoff Performance Horses until starting her own family. Today, she and Luke are raising two energetic boys who keep busy with baseball and soccer, while also running their successful business.

We are so thankful to have the Brinkmann family as both sponsors and leaders in our horse community. 💙🐴

Sponsor Highlight!
*****************************************************
When we think about all the fond memories we have with our dad, a majority of them revolve around our time as a family with our horses. What started out as simple horse lessons, after a few weeks of us begging, turned into YEARS of some of the best memories we have with him. He was our biggest supporter and the more competitive we became, the more dedicated he was. He worked hard to help us live out our dreams. After a few years of being the dedicated show dad, he decided to give the horse show business a try himself, traveling to Florida and West Virigina with our show family. My sister and I will never forget getting to show alongside him and looking over and seeing him smile from ear to ear when the placings were called. He loved our commitment to 4-H and everything it represents. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to sponsor a class in his memory. It would mean the world to him!

Love,
The Family of Kirby Lyons

Just an FYI, there was a question concerning some youth divisions at our Open Show this Sunday, particularly: Lead line/Walk Only, Small Fry and P*e Wee.
*For clarification, the pleasure portion of the show bill shows Lead line and Walk Only as the only two classes those participants may show in for the pleasure show. This was done to allow total rank beginners an opportunity to compete safely.
*Small Fry pertains to our Pleasure show and they cannot show Lead line or Walk Only as it has trotting involved.
*P*e Wee pertains to out Contesting show which is separate from the pleasure show. (Different judge and guidelines). So because of this, anyone may show P*e Wee as long as they fall within the age guidelines. No age divisions may cross enter.
We hope this provides clarification!

We are very excited to announce our pleasure judge for the 2025 Darke County Fair Open Horse Show! Duane Stutzman ! Our show bill will be finalized soon so stay tuned!
