Now that the dust has settled (no pun intended, because the arena was AWESOME!!!), we’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to so many people who made the 2024 Darke County Fair Open Horse Show such an incredible success!

First, to my girl posse: Angie Bender, Stacy Peters (who is also an amazing computer guru and powered through all the program issues), Tiffany Pope, and Amber Schlechty. You are the ones who keep me grounded, who let me bounce all my questions and concerns off of you—thank you for being my rock.

To our announcer, Jason Moore: can I just take a moment to say how incredibly awesome he is? He never gets flustered when we don’t get his class sheets to him on time or when we make changes, scratches, and additions. Even when back numbers don’t match, he remains calm and collected. After 18 hours in the booth, he also offered to help put away barrels and poles at midnight! If anyone is looking for a great announcer who keeps the classes moving and is always pleasant and helpful, Jason is your guy!

A big thank you to Lexi Moody, our judge, who was kind, friendly, and helpful; and to Jill Artz, our excellent ringmaster who has been with our crew since we first took over this show and keeps everyone in line, literally, lol.

To our gate crew: Cassi Chalmers, Natalie Beck, and Grace Graf, who stand tirelessly in the heat, the rain, and the chilly temps to get people and horses in and out safely and quickly—thank you for your dedication.

To our contesting ring crew: Samantha Barnes and Abraham Adams and Logan Moody who jumped in to help when we needed and who dealt with wet weather and then abnormally cold temps! And thanks to Asher Pierron for jumping in to set poles that were knocked over. That kid is a GREAT worker and babysitter!

A huge shoutout to Jesse Peters for setting up the Ranch pattern and allowing us to borrow his timer system as a backup!

To Kiera Spencer for carrying our Nation's flag before the National Anthem!

To our amazing sponsors: Hartzell Veterinary Service, Woodbury Farm, Kramer Farm, The Winery at Versailles, Jesse Peters Natural Horsemanship Instructor, Mike & Carol Williams, Tom & Diana Taylor, Meckes and Associates Insurance, Amber Schlechty and Twisted Pony Creations, Kellers Grain, and Camelot Farm—thank you for making the added money classes possible! You’re the reason the crowds were so big, and we appreciate you so much!

And how about that arena crew? WOW! Despite torrential downpours the day and night before (and during) the show, Kyle Schlechty and Tyler Myers managed a miracle. That arena was the bomb! Not just anyone could pull that off, but they did it in a BIG way—it was darn near perfect!

Lastly, to all of YOU who came to show and braved torrential downpours and chilly temps, we are so glad you attended. It turned out to be a pretty terrific day! And if I missed thanking ANYONE, please let me know. It takes SO many people to put this together, and each and every one of you is greatly appreciated!

Sincerely, Lisa Heidenreich, Show Secretary

When you're at The Great Darke County Fair Open Horse Show on Sunday August 18th, be sure to stop at the entry booth for a sample of Gallagher's Water!! It's an all natural electrolyte additive that horses go CRAZY over! Be sure to follow the directions and mix with water then watch the fun! Your horse will dive in, nose first, into that frothy green goodness and slurp it down! Even picky eaters love it! AND it's SO good for your equine athlete! We would like to thank Gallagher's Water for their generous donation!!!

IMPORTANT INFO!!!
We made a small change to the showbill that will ONLY affect the contesting portion. As you know, we tightened up our class listings for this year and eliminated about 10 classes from last year's show. We did this to try and get the contesting portion started as close to 5pm as possible so that we are over much earlier than last year (believe me, no one wanted to be here that late!) We also elected to move the P*e Wee classes to first in the contesting portion as well so the littles could be done and off to bed at a reasonable hour so we are carrying that over to this year again and we'd totally forgotten that when we created the show bill. So the show bill has been changed and it is available to be emailed if you would like a pdf, jpg or doc to print.
We look forward to seeing you all there Sunday!

Ok, now that I'm slightly more awake, I'd like to take a moment to breathe..... and thank the many folks who helped put on one of our biggest shows yet!
To my entry crew staff Angie Young and Stacy Peters: you handled a last minute show program failure and swap out to an old one, as well as printer issues with professionalism, patience and grace. You kept things moving and never stopped working. I'm not sure we've ever been that busy in that booth before!!
To my gate and ring crew Chris &Tiffany Pope, Brett Bender, Chris Heidenreich, Grace Graf, Jessica Heckler, and Lexi Pepple: you guys are always the forgotten heros! Standing in that direct sun all day or out there until 2am setting up barrels! Not one complaint either!
To my announcers: Wow, we have the absolute BEST announcers in Jason Moore and Logan Moody!! They kept the show moving and organized and rolled with the flow when we had any issues!
To our ring Steward Jill Artz! Jill has been with our crew since we took over in 2017 and is one of the kindest, most reliable young ladies I know!!
To Avalyn Grace: did you all watch that mid day performance she did??? That trick riding is no joke and that is one brave and talented young lady! I had goosebumps her entire performance!!!
To our judges: Brigette Brubaker and Paige Shonk. And our apprentice Judge (and soon to be 4H certified Judge ) Taylor Devaudreuil: Can we all just say how easy they made it for everyone??? Brigette had those pleasure classes just rolling along and Paige never missed a beat even in the midst of a long, late, hot night!
To Marla Werner and Russ Skaggs for the 800 trips for food, late night phone calls and texts, last minute entry booth needs and all of the issues they already had outside of us. Fairboard members rarely get the appreciation they deserve!
And thankyou to all who attended. The numbers were outstanding! Yes, it ran very late. Yes, it was hot, humid and exhausting. But we can only control so much, so remember to be kind to those who put in well over 10-15 hours that day on a volunteer basis to bring a great show to our Fair! It's not as easy as you'd think and we will never please everyone but at the end of the day, I'm extremely proud of this crew and the show we put on.
From the bottom of my heart, to you ALL: THANKYOU!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Sincerely, one exhausted and dehydrated show secretary, Lisa Heidenreich

We have SO many people to thank for helping to put on yesterday's show and once I'm more awake I will do that!
But I DO want to share just how blessed we are with the arena crew we have. Kyle Schlechty, Tyler Myers, Cody Schlechty: That arena was OUTSTANDING yesterday. And if I did not hear ONE complaint during contesting about the footing, then you KNOW they did a great job!! 🤣 (Come on barrel racers....you know that's true!! 🤣🤣🤣)
So PLEASE be sure to thank them. They were out working it before dawn Sunday am and stayed well past 2am when we finally finished our show! They deserve so much more than just our recognition but I did want to make sure they knew how much they are appreciated! I may not get all the names so please share if I missed anyone!!
