Happy Thanksgiving! What a beautiful day we had today.

I have a very important and rather difficult announcement to make regarding the future of the kennel. January 6, 2024 will mark the 18th year that I've owned and operated the kennel. It will also mark the last day that it will be in operation with me as the owner. This has been without a doubt the most difficult decision I've ever made in my life, but it is one that I'm making for myself and my family.

I truly appreciate all the support over these nearly two decades. I cannot put into words the gratitude and love I have for all of you that made me feel like a part of your family. I have so many fond memories, many of which have been captured here on this very page. Stepping away from the kennel, however, will allow me to make new memories with my family that I've yet to truly experience. I'm looking forward to spending more time with my family and exploring the unknown that the future holds.

I do not know if the kennel will reopen after January 6th with a new owner, but I'll do my best to keep you all informed.

As Summer approaches and we all start planning our vacations, family reunions, beach trips, weekend-long sports tournaments and so forth, I want to thank everyone for the years of support. January marked my 17th year owning and operating the kennel. As my family has grown, so has my need for increased help and I am eternally grateful to my assistant Aly for taking over the afternoon duties to make it possible for me to be a more active and present parent in all three of my children's lives. We've only just implemented this change, but it has made a world of difference already. Thank you so much, Aly.

With these changes and the ever-changing cost of living and inflation that we all are experiencing, I've had to seriously consider increasing my prices. After months of going back and forth over it, I have come to the conclusion that there is no way around it. Beginning May 22nd, all current and future reservations will reflect the following boarding prices:

$30 per day for one dog
$20 per day for a second dog in a shared run

Please know that I did not take making this decision lightly. It's something I've worried about night and day since the Fall. I've not raised my rates in over 8 years and I wouldn't be now if it was not necessary.

I thank you all for your continued support and I'm looking forward to another wonderful East Carolina Summer with all my furry nieces and nephews.

Starting today, Aly, my long-time kennel assistant, will begin taking over my afternoon hours and duties. She's worked with me for several years now and although many of you may not have had an opportunity to meet her, all my regular boarders and daycare dogs have. I've asked her to write a little something to introduce herself.

Hello all,
My name is Aly and I am a 21 year old soon to be graduate of ECU’s College of Business. I was born and raised right here in Greenville and have been at E&B Boarding since 2017. I have five dogs of my own and consider myself a dog lover through and through! I will start to cover some of Barrett’s usual hours, so you may start to see me more frequently. Although I may be acquainted with your dog(s), I have not yet gotten the chance to meet some of you. For those that I have met, I’m excited to continue working with you and your pups. For those that I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet, I hope to meet you soon!

It has been brought to my attention from a number of people that calls and messages have not been going through over the last two weeks or so, saying they've received messages indicating my number was not accepting phone calls or that I am unable to receive messages at this time. My cellular provider seems to believe the issue is with the device so I'm hoping to have the issue rectified by the end of the week. Just wanted to provide an update and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Looking forward to an awesome Summer that kicks off next week.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Thanksgiving thus far, spent with friends, family, and loved ones. I have a truly wonderful group of dogs this weekend which makes me extremely thankful. I am also thankful to all of you that allow me to be Uncle Barrett when you send your furchildren to camp. It means so much to me and my family. I've had a lot to reflect upon over the last year and a half or so and boy, what a difference a year makes... Your support sustained me during a very scary time as a small-business owner but especially as a father and husband with all the unknown that was out there and for that I will be eternally thankful.

With my family in mind and in an effort to be the best father and husband that I can be, I will have to slightly adjust my hours in the New Year to accommodate the needs of my family going forward. Beginning in January, my new drop off/pickup hours during the week will begin at 9am in order to afford me the time to take my children to school. School hours have changed significantly over the last two years due to the pandemic and although I've tried my best to avoid this change, it is out of necessity at this point. I know this will impact some more than others, but I appreciate your understanding and continued support. My hope is that this change is only temporary and that I can go back to my original hours sooner rather than later.

Although so much has changed over the last year and a half, I am truly thankful for all my furry nieces and nephews and all of you. Happy holidays!
