Everyone recalls our fighter Ranger, who overcame numerous challenges. He is scheduled to be discharged from the hospital this Friday but requires an experienced foster home capable of providing necessary medical care. We must exercise extreme caution due to his ongoing need for crate rest. Prospective foster families must have a fenced yard and be willing to take him for leashed potty breaks to prevent overexertion. He will require extensive crate rest and monitoring. We are thrilled about his upcoming release, but our kennels are currently at capacity, rendering it an unsuitable environment for his recovery. Therefore, please assist us in locating a suitable foster home before Friday. We will be highly selective to ensure his surgeries heal properly. He will also need to follow up with Nashville Road Animal Hospital. Anyone interested should contact us privately to discuss further details. πŸΎπŸ’•

Tonight we would like to remind everyone of the importance of keeping their animals contained and safe. Unfortunately, we responded to an (in city limits) incident earlier tonight involving an uncontained dog that was fatally shot by a homeowner. The dog was wearing a collar, indicating he had a family. Leash laws are in place, and we are deeply saddened by the outcome.

We're still over capacity and daily dog intakes continue to pose a challenge πŸ’”. This poor guy's owner passed away and his world was turned upside down, with euthanasia scheduled if we couldn't intervene. So we took a chance, but adoptions, rescues, and fosters are still crucial. We're committed to providing safe havens, but we need space to do so, or we'll face incredibly tough decisions. We're doing everything possible, so please keep sharing. We only take animals from Muhlenberg County, so let's work together to spay and neuter, the key to improving our situation πŸ’”. So many ask why we continue to accept intakes despite facing difficult euthanasia decisions. The answer is in our role as animal control: we've learned that halting intakes ultimately harms the animals most. By remaining open, we shield them from even harsher realities. Please know we're committed to doing our utmost with the resources we have, always striving to create a better tomorrow for these deserving animals.

We currently have no available kennels, yet we continue to receive dogs on a daily basis πŸ’”. Over the past week, we have experienced two returns from previous adoptions, through no fault of the dogs themselves. Prince, who was with us for over a year, had finally found what we believed would be his forever home, only to be returned, along with Spider-Man, who was also adopted by the same family. Both dogs are struggling to adjust to being back in an overcrowded shelter after having been in a home. We urgently need your assistance, as we are facing significant challenges and will be forced to make difficult decisions if we cannot find new homes or rescue placements for dogs soon. #muhlenbergcountyhumanesociety #WeAreTheirVoice

Everyone always desires the cute puppies but seems to overlook the mothers that have devoted their hearts and souls to raising those puppies πŸ’”. Meet Goldie, one of those mothers who has been forgotten since her cute puppies have all been adopted into their own homes. In fact, she has been with us for nearly an entire year now with no interest. Goldie arrived at the shelter defeated, scared, and with a litter of puppies to raise within the concrete walls. She did an exceptional job, but now she wonders if she will ever find her true happiness or if she will simply become another statistic. Goldie is not a super confident, flashy, or fluffy girl, so she is consistently overlooked. As a matter of fact, she becomes overwhelmed by the noise and chaos of the adoptable area, so she often resides in quarantine. Goldie has never experienced a true home with people who genuinely love her, and although we absolutely adore her and provide her with everything we can, she requires a real home, not a concrete cell. We are thrilled to announce our newest love connection. This is a significant development because Cedric initially exhibited extreme distrust towards other dogs after being abandoned with his siblings πŸ’”. Furthermore, he refused to walk on a leash. Thanks to the persistence of Miss Laura Kate Rogles he has become increasingly comfortable and is starting to open up in the shelter. Yesterday, he formed an instant bond with our sweet Polly, who was returned after being in a home for 2 years due to no fault of her own πŸ’”. Polly was also scared and shut down.
