Bond County Humane Society

Bond County Humane Society 501(c)(3) promoting feline & canine care, pet adoption, education, pet population reduction, & more.

Bond County Humane Society (BCHS) is based on the core value that all animals deserve to be treated in a humane manner. Dogs and cats with no homes need temporary shelter until a permanent, loving home can be found for them. We believe that awareness and education allows animals and humans to come together, for the benefit of both. BCHS is a no-kill animal shelter and an IRS approved 501(c)3 charitable organization so all donations are tax deductible in accordance with IRS guidelines.

It's been a long day for pet parents in all regions that observe Daylight Saving Time. Time for bed! 🐾😴

As anticipated, Mya was all up in my business this morning an hour before the alarm because her internal clock said that Mommy should be up and ready to go by now. Of course, she's been back to sleep for almost an hour, but I'm all wound up for the day. Ahhhhhh, the joys of pet parenting.

Parsley, the 13 week old white and tabby kitten, found her furever home on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Petco in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Parsley and her siblings were born at Bond County Humane Society to a rescued mama cat. She’s an active girl; running and playing all over her community room with the other cats and kittens. She likes some petting and holding but then it’s time for more excitement, carrying around favorite soft toys. Congratulations and don’t forget to write! BCHS holds regular pet adoption events at the Fairview Heights Petco on Saturdays AND at our Greenville Shelter Office during public hours.

Dia de los Mu***os, or Day of the Dead, is a celebration to honor loved ones who have crossed the veil, a time for the dead to commune with the living in a loving way, nothing scary, no horror stories. It's a celebration of life and love and family. What a beautiful idea!

Sugar skulls are a staple and symbol of Dia de los Mu***os. These elaborately decorated skulls can be seen displayed along with other offerings to the ancestors as an enticement to return.

In honor of Dia de los Mu***os, we would love to hear stories of your pets who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge but forever live in your heart. Gone but NEVER forgotten.

5 Reasons To Appreciate Your Dog Groomer:

Convenience
First and foremost, you can’t beat the convenience of taking Fido to the groomer. You don’t have to worry about ending up with a mess in your bathroom, or getting splashed and splattered yourself. If your pup’s veterinary clinic has grooming on-site, that’s even more convenient, as you can get several things done in one trip. Who doesn’t love one-stop shopping?

Keeping Fido Fashionable
Many of our canine buddies need haircuts and deshedding treatments. For instance, Pomeranians can be miserably hot in summer with their thick fur, while the floofy Bichon Frise can get matted without regular trims. Fido also just looks adorable in various ‘dos. However, those doggy haircuts require a professional hand.

Safety
It’s not always easy to get your pooch into the tub, especially if Fido is a large dog or senior. This can also be tricky with fragile pets. Your pup could seriously hurt himself by slipping on a hard floor or tub. Fido isn’t the only one at risk from slips and falls, though: people can also easily take a spill on a wet floor. Groomers have stations that are easy for Fido to get in and out of.

A Keen Eye
Groomers often have keen eyes, and may spot things like lumps, bumps, lesions, or swelling early on. These things can indicate a developing medical condition before symptoms become widespread. Early diagnosis is always beneficial!

Medical Grooming
Dog groomers not only help keep our furry friends looking and feeling great, they also perform some necessary medical grooming procedures. This entails things like ear hair trims and a**l gland expressions. While not all pups need these things done, those that do require professional care. If you aren’t sure if Fido should have medical grooming, ask your vet for more information.

Showing Your Groomer Appreciation
If you’re pleased with Fido’s stylist, this is a great time to let them know. Cash tips are welcome at most doggy salons. You can also show appreciation by sending thank you cards, gift cards, or gift certificates. A glowing review or even a referral would likely also be appreciated.

Autumn, the 4 month old tabby kitten with stripes and patches of bright color, found her furever family on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Petco in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Bond County Humane Society rescued Autumn from Bond County Animal Control and placed her into a foster home. She loves to play with toys she can bat about and chase around on the floor. At first, she can be timid but once she gets to know you, she becomes your best friend, snuggling against you and purring, looking for comfort against anything else new and untrustworthy. Autumn has a loud purr and we’re so happy for her in her next chapter! Send Happy Tails! BCHS holds regular pet adoption events at the Fairview Heights Petco on Saturdays AND at our Greenville Shelter Office during public hours.

Foster parents are some of the unsung heroes in animal rescue. There's no typical day at an animal shelter, but one thing is constant: animals coming in and needing forever homes.

Check out this article for the ins and outs of fostering, then head over to our website for an application to volunteer foster with Bond County Humane Society! https://www.bondcohumane.org/volunteer.html

"Puppies are normally the first to be adopted and we have them sitting and waiting," said Heather Wilhelm with 4 Paws 4 Rescue.

What a beautiful weekend! Our Road Block fundraiser on Saturday, October 26 collected $1800 in donations just in bills/checks – change will bring the total even closer to $2k. We’re so so so grateful to the community of drivers in Greenville!! Thank you to event coordinator Mickey and our volunteers with the buckets, many of whom dressed up in their great Halloween costumes!

With your smiles, kind words, and financial support we are inspired to keep going and keep rescuing and caring for those temporarily homeless cats and dogs. Of course, it's more than just money: we are limited by shelter space and foster space, and limited by how many dependable workers are available to fill morning and evening shifts. You can keep helping Bond County Humane Society and raising awareness by adopting, spaying and neutering your own pets, telling friends about us, even fostering in your home or volunteering for a weekly shift at the shelter!

You can donate to BCHS at any time, visit our GIVING page on our official website for all the details! https://www.bondcohumane.org/donate.html

Yubz, the 12 week old striped tabby kitten, found his furever family on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Petco in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Yubz was found as a 6 week old stray and brought to Bond County Humane Society. No one claimed him and we placed him into a foster home. Yubz is outgoing, snuggly and sweet, always ready to eat. This ball of energy loves to play by himself, with other cats, dogs, kids, and all people! He kneads soft blankies, purrs easily, and lets his foster family pet his soft belly. So special! We’ll miss you, little guy! Send Happy Tails! BCHS holds regular pet adoption events at the Fairview Heights Petco on Saturdays AND at our Greenville Shelter Office during public hours.

A modern quilt by our friend and shelter volunteer Nancy is always handcrafted and involves a lot of time, money, talents, and energy to produce. Just try to do a breakdown of design time, fabric cost, batting, thread, etc, longarm quilting, labor for cutting, piecing, ironing, etc... A large throw this size can easily be worth more than $700! So, let’s get bidding and sharing this silent auction to more friends, more coworkers, and more family so we can bring in a fundraising total worthy of Nancy’s love for our cats and dogs and lifesaving mission! Quilts are true labors of love, therefore priceless.

Makenzie, the 5 month old Terrier mix, found her furever family on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Petco in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Bond County Humane Society rescued Makenzie from an animal control facility in Tennessee via a transport after she’d been found as an unclaimed stray. This puppy’s ears are her most notable feature. In addition to her expressive ears, Makenzie’s long body and short legs might indicate some Dachshund in her breed. She’s so friendly, loves attention and spending all her energy on squeaker toys. She walks good on leash, but oftentimes would rather just play than walk (short legs, remember!). Our shelter volunteers laughed when she’d just lay down on the ground and refuse to walk! LOL Best wishes in your new home, and keep your family laughing with your attitude and opinions on exercise regimens. Don’t forget to write! BCHS holds regular pet adoption events at the Fairview Heights Petco on Saturdays AND at our Greenville Shelter Office during public hours.
